- Linux distro: Mint/Ubuntu 11 64-bit
- Wine version: Latest wine from the Ubuntu repositories
Wine installs fine, but sound doesn't work at all. In winecfg, under Audio, whe I click the Test Sound button I get this error message:
Audio test failed
The console outputs the following:
fixme:msg:pack_message msg 14 (WM_ERASEBKGND) not supported yet
So, sound simply

Re: No Sound in Spotify with WINE
Upgrading stock Wine 1.2 which ships with Ubuntu 10.10 to Wine 1.3 Beta had now fixed audio playback in Spotify.
See http://www.winehq.org/download/deb for upgrade instructions.

Crackaly Audio 1.4-rc2, but not 1.3.15
So, I recently upgraded to 11.04 from 10.10, and mostly things have been fine. One of the things though is that pulse was freshly installed again, and as expected, this caused issues. So, just for kicks, I uninstalled wine, deleted my .wine, and then installed the beta package wine from the software center and out of the blue the sound worked fine! Ofcourse, games were laggy and/or impossible to

No sound in wine with Ubuntu 10.10, native sound works fine
Hello, i am a new Linux user as of last weekend. I successfully built my first computer and installed Ubuntu 10.10 and wine 1.2. I am using the hdmi out on my nvidia gtx 460 graphics card with on-board which works fine with standard pulseaudio for all tested native apps (system sounds, hulu on firefox, warzone 2100). I have tried every combination of winecfg audio tab settings as well as

No Sound in Spotify with WINE
Apologies if you have also seen this post on the Ubuntu Wine forum, as I have cross posted it there. I hope this is not bad form, but I wished to have the best chance of getting some assistance as possible.
Spotify has suddenly stopped working for me. It used to work fine about a month ago. The only recent change is that I have upgraded Ubuntu to 10.10 (previously I had 10.04) I don't think

Correction: Asterisk sound files, audio bandwidth, and sound quality
Sorry -- I goofed on the sample rates! Apologies!
Hello, everybody:
I'm developing an application using Asterisk and a TDM-400 card.
I understand the concept of the difference between GSM and WAV files
when using Asterisk, but I'm not happy with the sound quality with the
GSM compression. It's merely *acceptable* for a telephone call, but for
anything else, it leaves something to be

No sound in Warhammer Soulstorm since 1.2-rc1?
Hello.
I have a problem with sound in Soulstorm; up to 1.2-rc1, it worked like a charm. But now, after upgrading, I don't have sound any more, even though I didn't change my wine configuration.
I have sound in other games, and I have sound in winecfg/audio/test sound.
I don't use pulseaudio.
Does anybody have the same problem?
Thanks.

No sound in Steam with Bose USB speakers
Hi all,
I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 with wine 1.2.2 and have a set of Bose Companion 5 USB speakers connected to my system. The speakers work fine in Ubuntu in every way, except for wine. In WineCFG the audio is configured to use ALSA, but the "Test Sound" always fails no matter what I set it to. I've read this is a known problem, so not a big deal. However, when playing Portal or

WINE 1.3.30 Rocks!
Ever since Canonical removed native OSS support (removed in Ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04), Starcraft sound has been very poor-i.e. scratchy, delayed, clipped, skipped, and sometimes no sound at all. I suspect PulseAudio had some part in it, but removing it broke so many other desktop sound functions.
Anyways, 1.3.30 with directsound works perfect-even with PA enabled! The new DIB engine seems to make

[fdo] Linux with Graphics and Sound
Hello Linus Torvalds, Paul Davis,
The state of most desktop and office applications under Linux seem quite
healthy. People are working hard making the Linux desktop work. Yet, I
am very sorry, but I cannot describe the deployment and maintaince of 3D
graphics and sound API's as well as drivers as anything other than woeful.
My hope is an enviroment where both open-source and commcial

Fallout 3 with (almost) no sound
I finally got Fallout 3 to work, now however I do not have sound. Well, almost no sound; while I can listen to Radio Stations and voices, anything else does not work.
Here the command I use to start the game as well as some output:
Code:
MYNAME at MYRIG:~/Wine/Fallout 3$ wine start fose_loader.exe
fixme:exec:SHELL_execute flags ignored: 0x00000100

Possible recent bug disables sound in wine - Ubuntu Studio
I have sound problems in Ubuntu Studio, starting yesterday. These may be caused by a Ubuntu bug, but I wanted to run them by wine users and see if anyone else is having a similar problem.
My configuration:
I use Ubuntu Studio. I installed it clean this morning, with default options.
Then I purged pulseaudio (because pulseaudio does not work with wine)

Curve Fitting/Regression with Multiple Observations
I recently came to realize the true power of R for statistical
analysis -- mainly for post-processing of data from large-scale
simulations -- and have been converting many of existing Python(SciPy)
scripts to those based on R and/or Perl.
In the middle of this conversion, I revisited the problem of curve
fitting for simulation data with multiple observations resulting from
repetitions.

Installin wine 1.3 shouldn't be this complicated!
I'm new to ubuntu but i'm starting to understand it. However, Ubuntu is completely useless for me if I can't run the latest version of wine (1.3).
Wine 1.2 was working great on 10.04 however photoshop cs4 wouldn't install on it. So I upgraded to maverick, deleted wine 1.2, and am now trying to install wine 1.3. Should be simple, right?
I've added the correct repositories to
