white in the default palette
Dear All, [I'd already sent this message earlier (Apr 6) but as I had no response and I still see that it is the case in R1.5 I thought I'd try again] I recently encountered a problem (actually missed some data) because "white" is one of colours in the "default" palette and that does not show up to well on my transparent (on white background). Of course it is

Display an arrow, or transparent image colors
I want to display an arrow in the user interface between 2 GUI Components. I think I know how I can do it, but I ran into a problem displaying pixel images with transparent background. I describe this image display problem here and ask for advice. but if someone knows of a different and easier way to display arrows, please tell me. Example Problem: I want a FXHorizontalFrame to contain, from

Transparent color ramp problem
Hello, I can't seem to add transparency to any color ramp I create using colorRampPalette(). Can someone tell me if it is possible to create transparent colour ramps? I am attempting to map shaded relief under elevation data. I know I can use the terrain.colors() with the alpha option, but I would prefer to create my own colour ramp using more vibrant colours. My most recent attempt at

No subject
Philippe Grosjean raised the question of transparency in the context of writing Windows metafiles, but it has come up before for bitmapped graphics. I've taken a look in the sources, and what we do now is inconsistent. The postscript/xfig/pdf devices do not paint the background iff it is "white". All the screen devices always paint the background, as do the bitmap devices and all

displaying intensity through opacity on an image
Dear colleagues, I have an image which I can display in the greyscale using image. On this image, for some pixels, which I know, I want to display their activity based on a third measure. One way to do that would be to color these differently, and use an opacity measure to display the third measure. An example of what I am trying to do is at:

overlaid transparent histograms
Hello all-- I'm attempting to produce overlaid histograms with partially transparent columns. Whether this display will end up being useful, I can't say. But I do want to get it right. I've already got one solution (shown below), but I tried some other versions and had questions about my results. (Note: I'm using a quartz device, so transparency shows up correctly. You might

using alpha transparency for lines in levelplot
Hello, I'm having trouble with using the alpha channel for transparency with lines with lattice levelplots. If I use transparency via the alpha argument to rgb to overplot lines on levelplot the transparent colour affects all of the region colours in the plot. Can anyone explain why the difference in region colours? #### Warning: this code attempts to create PDF files in working directory

making scatter plot points fill semi-transparent
hi all, i have a simple scatter plot, and i'd like to make it so the scatter plot colors are slightly transparent. i see in a previous post that someone mentioned the "alpha" parameter, but i am not sure how it can be used with the 'plot' function [*]. for example, suppose i have: plot(mydata$column1, mydata$column2, col="red", cex=1) i now want to make it so

latex, eps graphics and transparent colors
I have a diagram to be included in latex, where all my figures are .eps graphics (so pdflatex is not an option) and I want to achieve something like the following: three concentric filled circles varying in lightness or saturation. It is easiest to do this using transparency, but in my test using the postscript driver, the transparent color fills do not appear. Is it correct that postscript()

OT: 3d surfaces with transparency
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I would be grateful if anyone had suggestions about software that could (1) create 3D surface plots, (2) handle transparency/alpha blending, (3) generate output in some vector graphics format that preserved the transparency. I could also live with a combination of two programs, one to generate the basic figure and another to modify the output

Fw: alpha transparency crashes R
I'm forwarding a bug report from Jeff Gove that didn't make it to the list. -Deepayan ------- Original Message -------- Subject: alpha transparency crashes R Date: Fri, 07 Nov 2008 14:32:27 -0500 From: jeff gove <jhgove at unh.edu> To: r-bugs at r-project.org I ran into a problem with R crashing when a certain number of transparent objects (e.g., symbols) are sent to a PDF

Plotting a cloud/fog of variable density in rgl
Hi everyone, I want to plot a 3D interpolation of the concentration of aquatic organisms. My goal would be to have the result represented as clouds with a density proportional to the abundance of organisms, so that I could fly (well, swim actually ;) ) through the scene and see the patches here and there. Basically, I want to do something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27mo_Y-aU-c but

FW: Maps and plotting
Thanks for the help on the translucent dots. What would be the best method for creating a map of the facility? I looked into map* in the libraries and didn't find anything on creating the maps, just using them. Thanks again... windows device transparency issue
I read in a thread in r-help today that the windows device in 2.6 supports transparency, so I tried an example and had some issues. The density plots should be filled with transparent color in the following example (similar to the points), however the color is "fully" transparent. This works in the Cairo device, but not in the windows device. Thanks, --Matt Matt Austin

overlaid filled contour plots
I'm trying to make a set of contour plots of bivariate kernel density estimates, showing three such plots overlaid, similar to this plot http://euclid.psych.yorku.ca/SCS/Private/Test/ridge-boot2.pdf except that I would like to have the contours *filled* (using transparent colors). To make this reproducible, I've saved the results of KernSmooth::bkde2D() in the following file:

Rainmeter desktop display, skins not transparent
Firstly, I've filed a bug about this transparency issue here ( http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18144 ) as well as another bug completely unrelated to the threads in the vein of gdiplus ( http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18142 ). The bug I'm interested in for the purpose of this thread is the transparency issue displayed when Rainmeter loads a skin. Rainmeter (as well as

How to get transparent colors to sum to complete opacity?
Dear List, I want to use transparency in R to represent downweighting of observations based on clusters (repeated observations in a dataset). Some clusters will have identical covariate values in a parameter space -- in the 2D x,y case, these represent a bunch of semi-tranparent dots in the same place. I'd like these overlapping dots to be completely opaque. In other cases, the
