please recommend hands-on books on classification, data-mining and machine learning with R?
Hi all, Could anybody please recommend some hands-on books on classification, data-mining and machine learning with R? I would like to get a very good understanding of the statistical tools that are used in these areas, while reducing the learning curve. Thank you!

R Wiki - official launch!
Hello all, We are pleased to announce the official launch of the R Wiki at http://wiki.r-project.org. Although there are already many sources of R documentation, this R Wiki is a complementary tool, in the sense that "users become R documentation authors", a little bit like "users become developers" for R code.

"Linux aux petits oignons" - Book about Linux, based on CentOS 5.x
Hi, I'm currently busy finishing "Linux aux petits oignons", a practical introduction to Linux, aimed primarily at the frustrated Windows user. This is the first of two volumes, it's written in french, and all examples in the book are based on CentOS. (Note: looks like I'll have to update some screenshots to 5.3 :oD) Usually the first question that arises is: why not

BSD-licensed IDS/IDP Software?
I seem to remember seeing somewhere (on this list/on the web -- don't remember) that there was some ``Snort-like'' software that was available under the BSD license. Unfortunately, I'm unable to find any information about such software. Was I dreaming, or can anybody else jog my memory? :) Kind regards, Devon H. O'Dell

I forgot to mention that the patched version seams to work fine, except that one of the listener (curl | oggdec | ices) don't like the source content change. I have to search for that. Help Documentation (PR#6716)
hi henrik (all): A better solution would be to have levels: set.help(level="beginner"), which then provides expanded explanations. However, I do not think this is necessary: For the most part, the online R docs are great. It is not more detailed explanations that beginners crave. My primary wishes arise as I stumble onto a need, and then wish for a few more examples of different

Help Documentation (PR#6717)
Ivo, Let me address your points in reverse order: 1. There is a `wishlist' category for bug reports, which I guess you've overlooked. 2. There is also a `Contributed Documentation' section on the R web site, which you can submit your contribution. As well, there are a few introductory level documents there already that you might be interested. 3. I must repectfully disagree about

Machine Learning and R
Hi all, I am looking for a good book that covers Machine Learning as a whole and provides examples in R while not over focusing on the math (such as in 'Elements of Statistical Learning') but rather on descriptions and examples. I am relatively new to R and ML and, while solving problems with R, I want to learn the main concepts, techniques and problem categories. Can anybody here

Useful books for learning the R software and the S programming language
any useful books for learning the R statistical software? are they pricey? and if the books recommended focus on S, how compatible will they be for someone learning R? thank you in advance for your help. P.S. specialized survey statistical procedures? Is R good at that? [[alternative HTML version deleted]]
