getting started
Hey all, Been reading through all the old posts (and the docs) to familiarize myself but I still feel a bit lost. I''m on trunk and am having a bit of a hard time knowing where to start with the particular I''m trying to solve. So far, I''ve downloaded backgroundrb, done the basic rails setup, created my worker and started it using `script/backgroundrb start`.

Delete a busy worker
I thought I could delete a busy worker by calling MiddleMan.delete_worker, but doesn''t seem to end. I believe this was possible in 0.2, is it not in 1.0? thanks, Zach -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... backgroundrb and rspec Stories
Hi, I would like to use backgroundrb inside a story, been trying to set this up for a while, but I think the only solution is to use fixture files and unit testing. The problem is that every time I call a new worker, the test database gets wiped out, and only has available the records in fixture files. Instead, it would be great if the test database maintains its state throughout the

Unable to load Models which reference plugins?
I''m using a plugin which adds a method to ActiveRecord::Base http://similetimelinerailshelper.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/simile_timeline/ This adds an "acts_as" type declaration to the Models, via the file in vendor/plugins/simile_timeline/lib/simile_timeline.rb Rails is working with these declarations, and they are being used successfully in ''regular

Server settings for BackgrounDRB?
I have backgroundrb working locally and everything''s fine. However, i can''t get it running on our server. I read a blog post by David Burger about backgroundrb (http://david-burger.blogspot.com/2008/04/backgroundrb-rails-notes.html#comment-form) and it says that you set up your backgroundrb.yml file with a different section for each environment you want to use. Mine looks like

Using the ip flag
Hey All, I am looking for an example of the proper config settings for background rb to run my rails app and my backgroundrb instance on separate machines (or more precisely, to have a rails cluster with one backgroundrb machine). Does anyone have such examples? Thanks! -Noah -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Cannot start workers in production mode
I have a job that I am starting from a Rails controller in production mode using MiddleMan: MiddleMan.new_worker(:class => :import_ccg_category_worker, :args => { :category_id => @category.id, :remote_category_id => params[:remote_category_id], :description => "Importing CCG products for #{@ category.name}" }) Both of the category ID variables are just basic integers. Setting Product Env
When I am using my rails models in my worker class, it appears the background worker class is always using development no matter what I do. I set background.yml to production. I even have ENV[''RAILS_ENV''] ||= ''production uncommented in environment.rb. I don''t have the development db even created on my production box, so not sure where it is getting development

Deploying to a staging server using Capistrano: how to start up BackgrounDRb?
Hi. I am using BackgrounDRb to process thumbnails and upload to S3 - things are hunky-dory in development (thumbs are generated, these are uploaded to S3, the metadata is saved to trhe DB, and I get a nice status page updated by periodic calls via ask_status), but when I tried to deploy to our staging server and stop/start BackgrounDRb via Capistrano, things blew up - well, not exactly,

memory uses
Hi All, I have this small doubt. Does backgroundrb have anything to do with dispatch.fcgi? some dispatch.fcgi are taking memory as much as 186 MB .... this is monstrous man... Also, if i put load rails environment with backgroundrb.yml file to be false. What will happen? i just loses access to db through ActiveRecord right? I can still use normal mysql gem to access db and modify the

rails_env configuration conflict...
I''ve found a conflict in the way the configuration file is handled, in particular effecting the setting of the ENV[''RAILS_ENV''] value. When I attempted to run a worker in production, it would run fine the first time - the second time would fail because it was trying to access the development database. I had created a ''backgroundrb_prodcution.yml'' file

-c switch in the startup command
I have been strugging with getting backgroundrb to stay in the correct environment using multiple configuration files and the -c switch when starting backgroundrb. If I start brb like this: ./script/backgroundrb run RAILS_ENV=development -- -c ../config/development_background.yml where development_background.yml specifies "development" for rails_env and environment, the first worker

BackgrounDRb 1.0 pre-release available now
Hi Folks, We are glad to announce shiny new release of BackgrounDRb, which will soon become 1.0. A quick summary of changes: - BackgrounDRb is no londer DRb, its based on event driven network programming library packet ( http://www.packet.googlecode.com ) . - Since we moved to packet, many nasty thread issues, result hash corruption issues are totally gone. Lots of work has went in making

Feedback on RC2
I tried to upgrade my existing application to RC2 last night. Like many, I use this mostly for running scheduled tasks. For the moment, I''ve abandoned the effort, but am looking forward to being able to use this. Feedback below: First, the reason I was looking forward to this upgrade was to use the threaded scheduler. I have an application with long-running tasks. I found that

Scheduling same worker/method at different times with different args
I need to run the same worker''s method twice per day with different arguments. Unfortunately, only the second entry in the schedule is firing. I created an experimental worker to verify this: Worker: class ExperimentWorker < BackgrounDRb::MetaWorker set_worker_name :experiment_worker def create(args = nil) # this method is called, when worker is loaded for the first time

Some more updates, enhancements and fixes
Hi Folks, Well, Yesterday I pushed some more updates that I was cooking since last couple of days. Here is a brief list: 1. Results from worker stays even after a worker dies. 2. You can ask backgroundrb to store status objects in memcache cluster now. by default its stored in master process memory, but I have introduced an option to allow it to be stored in a memcache cluster:
