virt-install hell: how to *force* a local CD-ROM install?
I have a CentOS 5.6 system with a AMD Sempron(tm) Processor LE-1300 (which does not provide hardware virtualization support, so I can't use the --cdrom option) and I am *trying* to install FC15 as a guest O/S using a local FC15 DVD-ROM image. Everything work until the installer *insists* on firing up the network to get the repo data, etc. I have a *dial-up* Internet connection and this is a

Samba 4.1.12 NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED messages
We used successfully samba 3.5.15-74.fc15 in our production (animation studio). It was installed on FC15 on ext4 volume. Now, we got new hardware and tried fresh software installation: it is CentOS7, with Samba 4.1.12 and XFS volumes. So, now we got strange problem. Some production software (Autodesk Maya2016) got errors trying to work with files. There is no such problem with Samba3. For

virt-manager: create lxc app container hangs
libvirt-0.9.6-2.fc15.x86_64 virt-manager-0.9.0-7.fc15.noarch I'm trying to use virt-manager create a simple lxc app container just to see how it works. App is /bin/sh, 128 megs, 1 cpu. All seems to go well, but when I click "Finish" and the "Creating Virtual Machine" box comes up, "Creating Domain..." stays at 0B though the slider keeps going back and forth.

slow creating files
We tried to migrate from old Windows fileserver (p4, single HDD) to Samba (FedoraCore15, Samba 3.5.12-72.fc15, ext4 volume, xeon, raid5). Our pipeline is so, that some special software generates files on that fileserver. The typical filesize ~50 mbytes. On the old hardware, software (win2k3 server) the time of single file creation was about 10 seconds. On the new configuration it takes 20-25

btrfs hang in flush-btrfs-5
Hi - I''m trying btrfs with kernel 2.6.38.8-32.fc15.x86_64 (a Fedora kernel). I''m just doing a tar-to-tar copy onto the file system with compress- force=zlib. general protection and other errors
Hi, I'm having a problem with a fedora15 x86_64 host with a fedora15 x86_64 guest on a Xeon E3-1240 with 8GB RAM on the guest. This is the only guest. The server is configured as a mail server, using spamassassin, postfix, amavisd, and clamav. It was previously running without error on different hardware. I migrated the disks to a more powerful server due to load. It's a new server, and

general protection errors
Hi, Some time ago I sent a message about some general protection errors, and didn't receive a response. I hoped I could post again and that someone might have some ideas. I really don't think it is a hardware problem producing these errors, but am otherwise out of ideas. I'm having a problem with a fedora15 x86_64 host with a fedora15 x86_64 guest on a Xeon E3-1240 with 8GB RAM on

ovirt (git) build removes ovirtnode.password
Hi There, I may be doing something wrong. I built ovirt-node-image from git using instructions at https://fedorahosted.org/ovirt/wiki/Build (note: the -b next should be removed from the wiki) Anyway, moving on. I successfully created an ovirt-node-image.iso, but when I boot off it, the first boot fails with ovirtnode.password being missing. I can see in recipe/ovirt-node-image.ks that

CentOS 6.0 CR mdadm-3.2.2 breaks Intel BIOS RAID
I just upgraded my home KVM server to CentOS 6.0 CR to make use of the latest libvirt and now my RAID array with my VM storage is missing. It seems that the upgrade to mdadm-3.2.2 is the culprit. This is the output from mdadm when scanning that array, # mdadm --detail --scan ARRAY /dev/md0 metadata=imsm UUID=734f79cf:22200a5a:73be2b52:3388006b ARRAY /dev/md126 metadata=imsm

building a supermin appliance with febootstrap...
Rich, So, I tried to build the simple supermin app. from your blog. I can confirm that I did get to the shell when I invoked qemu-kvm. I used the standard qemu-kvm cmdline (but appended a serial console). This boots fine. ######################################################## [root at moon appliance-test]# qemu-kvm -kernel kernel -append "console=tty0 console=ttyS0,115200" -initrd
