Paltalk client for Ubuntu
Hello. I am new to Ubuntu. I have downloaded Wine in the hope that it could help run PALTALK with Ubuntu. I have downloaded the PALTALK install, but Wine systematically refuses to open it.... apparently for security reasons.
The Palltalk install is an 'exe' file.
Now some people say that you cannot run Paltalk with Ubuntu, while others post videos showing you that YOU CAN! This is really

What is happening here - rsync can't copy where cp can, Input/Output errors
I am using rsync version 2.6.9 protocol version 29 on a Fedora 7
system to backup files to a network drive.
rsync is getting I/O errors when copying maildir files (I'm not sure
if the error is happening with other files but these are the only ones
I have found so far).
I have done some tests on one particular directory, "cp -R" succeeds
but "rsync -r" fails:-

Paltalk
Hi,
First of all I am using Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) with Wine installed.
I was wondering if anyone has tried this program called Paltalk. It is a voice chat program/client. They do provide a web/flash version but it is not the same as the application that is available on Windows.
Initially I couldnt install it using wine, so I read somewhere that I had to install IE4Linux and MSN messenger

I wonder if any of you people could help me getting Paltalk running in Ubuntu 11.04.
I have searched these forums and tried most of the thing others have tried, but it still won't work.
I have been in rooms before with different build, but it crashes withing minutes and blames wine.
The problem with the latest build....I can log in....but when I search for a room nothing happens....then I get

Some direction for creating sound files for Asterisk
First, my real problem is I don't totally understand what I'm doing...
which is why I'm making this post.
What I'm trying to do is record various prompts for use with my
asterisk system. I started out by just using some of the various
record functions, and things worked out well. However, now I'm
wanting to take a recording of someone speaking, and put some music in

Audacity settings for Asterisk sound files
Can anyone provide the settings in Audacity to create a proper wav file without having to do additional conversion in the cli? Has to be a way to do this with less steps.

agi RECORD FILE with offset
Hi All,
I've been playing about with the RECORD FILE agi function and am
finding two distinct problems with the resulting wav file when using a
non zero sample offset. Specifically, I call the function with a zero
offset and a given filename (the "original" recording), and then later
call it with the same filename and a non-zero offset (the "overdub").
When I do this, I

GSM -> ULAW sound conversion
Hello,
I have figured out that my audio problem was just how I was converting
the sound files. I am trying to convert the Asterisk gsm files to
ULAW.
I just did a: sox file.gsm file.ul, open it in Audacity. I used:
Project, Import Raw, U-law, No endian, 1 channel, start offest 1 byte,
sample rate 8000hz. The file sounds fine in Audacity.
Now, if I do a record on Asterisk, using pcm, au, or

Problem with filenames with commas in them
This is a continuation of my previous problem where cp could copy
files whereas rsync couldn't. It turns out that the problem is with
files which have commas in their names, rsync can write the initial
version of the file but it can't check/rewrite them.
Here is the error I get from rsync when trying to overwrite the files
(using --inplace) :-

FYI -- Just to let you know of potential sound problems
I have the latest version of Ubuntu Studio (Karmic) and just re-installed it today.
I use non-pulse applications, including Audacity and Dragon NaturallySpeaking running under wine. I have tried disabling pulseaudio every way I know how.
I am getting no sound, mostly due to what are described as timeout errors.
Ubuntu has been working to make it run with pulseaudio properly disabled, so that

Opus in Audacity
Hi
I am an Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) developer and I'd
like to see Audacity reading and writing Opus files as easily as it
does others. What would you recommend as a way forward for this?
I am thinking that (Win) we should ship opusenc.exe and opusdec.exe
and send command line stuff to them; that way we wouldn't need to dip
into your code and as you update we would
