Printing graphics on CentOS 5.3
I am absolutely thrilled and delighted to report that the problem I have been having on CentOS since I first started using it, back in 4.4, of having all images (graphics) print out from the image viewer as all-black pages appears to be gone! I just printed 13 graphics from the image viewer directly to my laser printer, and they're all excellent. I suppose it could be that I'm using a

HP vs. Brother Printers: Use with Centos/Fedora
Our office has had a Brother MFC-8510DN for at least five years - no issues. As has been said below, you do have to download and install the driver but the process hasn't been problematic. Having said that, I haven't pushed the limit on it's capabilities, just done rather plain printing. ________________________________ From: CentOS <centos-bounces at centos.org> on behalf of

SOHO colour laser printer recommendations
Hi List, I'd really appreciate some recommendations for colour laser printers for use with CentOS. It's for light home use with CentOS 5 and CentOS 6 systems. Must have: 1. Colour. Quality not that important as mainly for kids school project type of stuff. 2. Ethernet connectivity - want something I can plug into the network 3. Cheap running costs - don't want to be spending a

HP vs. Brother Printers: Use with Centos/Fedora
We currently have a Brother MFC-5490CN. Printer firmware is dated June 1010. (yeah, 10 years old). Few years ago the brother software wouldn't work for printing under Fedora. No problem, can print under Windows 10. Then it stopped scanning. Could still print...under Windows. Now, to fix the scanning features working I installed updated drivers under Windows, now it scans like champ, but

CUPS and Okidata ML 395
Hi All, Has anyone currently, or in the past, setup an Okidata ML 395 (or any of Okidata's impact printers, for that matter) on a CentOS box? I'm having a miserable time with the ML 395: I'm looking for some tips. I have an AMD Opteron server running CentOS 4 (x86_64). CUPS is running happily for two Canon imageRunner's (via BrightQ Pro from Codehost). The Okidata ML 395 is

Access Denied Error On Windows XP --> Linux Printer
I'm running Samba Version 3.0.14a on Debian Linux. My sm.conf is listed at the end of this message. I have two printers on server.thresh.lan, a Brother HL-1440 laser printer and an HP-5510 Office Jet (printer/scanner/fax/copier/gopher and dishwasher). The Brother is named "laser" and the HP is named "multiuse". I have a multi-boot system on the LAN that can boot

USB printer goes into disconnected state when low-power mode enabled
I've mentioned this before, here, but with a laser printer connected via the lp0 port. I have a new laser printer, a Brother HL2140, that normally works just fine when installed using the CUPS interface per OpenPrinting's instructions (with one minor modification I had to add because the base driver without the CUPS installation did not work. Every so often, which actually appears to be

NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME
Hi i'm trying to list the shares on my Brother HL-5250DN printer with the smbtree command on linux but i keep getting the NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME error message. I can however print to one of the shared printing services with cups through the Device URI: smb://BRN_E1BEFA/BINARY_P1. Does anyone know what the problem could be? linux-wick:~ # smbtree Password: WORKGROUP

USB->Parallel cable compatibility
I have an installation where we're replacing a rather old Linux box with a new one that has no parallel ports. The old box has two parallel ports going to Okidata printers. The IOGEAR GUC1284B USB to Parallel Adapter cable looks like it might be a simple solution to this, but I would like to know that it works before getting a couple. Comments? Printing to Samba printer causes application to abort
I am using Slackware 10.2 (kernel 2.4.29) and Samba 3.0.21c for my print server. The client workstations are WinNT4. I have two printers on the linux server..an HP DeskJet 600 and an Okidata B4250. I can install and print to the HP from any of the workstations. I can install the Okidata just fine, but when I try to print from Word, Excell, or any application Dr. Watson comes to visit. I get

CUPS printing from Windows
I have replaced a WinNT4 PDC with a Samba server. I'm not experiencing problems with file sharing/locking at all, but printing is another issue. In this network, there are several dot-matrix printers that are ONLY printed to using a DOS application, and a laser (HP 2300, PCL and PS) that is primarily used for Windows printing. Problem: Windows clients (using downloaded drivers from
