An easy & great contribution to yourself, family, neighborhood and society
Dear Sir/Ma'am:
It is significantly beneficial to your local (public, private, school, college, institutional, or ...) library and its patrons to have a book titled
"Complete Conduct Principles for the 21st Century" by Dr. John Newton.
Please kindly suggest to your local library(ies) that the book be purchased. This is an easy but GREAT & respectable contribution you can

2nd POSTING: Samba PDC shares causing errors in MS Word 97 SR2
Hi,
I support around 15 Windows 2000 Clients who log into and have home
directories on a Samba PDC running under RedHat 7.3. The version of
samba I am using is 2.5.5. All the clients use Word97 SR2 and they all
get the following error while working on documents stored on their home
directories on the PDC:
Word failed reading from this file (filename.doc). Please restore the

Sieve with links?
Is there any reason that a .active_sieve file would not load because it is a symbolic link? The target of the link is readable by the mail user, but instead of getting the trace for the .active_sieve file, I only get the trace for the default sieve file.

codeweavers-wine:itcl problem
codeweavers-wine-20010112-1 hung during install (rpm) at
the creation of KDE/Gnome menus; since I don't use either,
I thought, no prob and ran winesetup from Blackbox.
I skipped re-making the links on starting winesetup and
went right for the configuration. which also failed. This
is the message it generated:

making a grid of points
I'd like to evaluate a function at each point on a 2 or 3-D grid. Is
there some function that already does this, or generates the grid of
points?
My search has led me to the grid and lattice packages, and I found a
reference to the sp package (e.g., SpatialGrid) for this. There are
things in there that might be relevant, but at first blush many of them
are embedded in other concepts (grobs,

Since doing "yum update" this morning, an update that installed several
packages, the updater shows me 3 packages to install:

hplip-common-3.12.4-4.el6_4.1 (x86_64)
hplip-libs-3.12.4-4.el6_4.1 (x86_64)
but when I attempt to actually run the update I get:

FAX?
Should FAX transmission generally work through Asterisk and a TDM400P
connected through a PSTN gateway? At first blush I'd think that if
they're all g.711uLaw encoded that it would work. But experience shows
otherwise. Is there a better way to do FAX?

Package checking: verifying plots
I pride myself on having an extensive and comprehensive test suite for the survival package.
However, I don't have a good procedure for testing the plotting routines. (Forget "good",
I don't even have a third-rate procedure for this.) This was brought home with the latest
release; within 24 hours I got a note about a problem. They y-axis range for a plot was
