Re:linking notepad++ to stata under Wine (taijimaomao)
Hi! Stata is available for Mac (native) according to http://s281191135.onlinehome.us/2008/20080427-stata.html and rundo and rundolines are open source, and come with the source
code. You might be able to compile rundo and rundolines for Mac from that source code. There is also Macpad++, a
Notepad++ for Mac. You'd think those four would get it done all Mac
native.
Have you considered using

Thanks very much, Jake. I will go back and try the options you recommended, and probably collect the parameters that you listed.

R user defined language file for NotePad++
I am a big fan of NotePad++ (http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm), which allows users to develop an XML schema that allows NotePad++ to be more Language aware. Thus, I'm curious if there are any R users out there that may have developed the XML user defined language for NotePad++.
Just curious if there is already one out there.
Thanks again for any feedback.

running R from Notepad++ in Windows 7
hi Andrew
Many thanks for the suggestion.
I gave it a try , but still get the same issue -
a fresh Rgui window (just one) opens, with an empty .RData, when
I submit a script ( Ctrl & F8 ).
I also tried running things as administrator, but it made no difference.
Apparently windows 7 is selling like hot buns, so there should be
enough market pressure before too long , to encourage the

Weird Notepad++ toolbar bug
Hey :)
I've recently installed WINE 0.9.56 through Archlinux's Pacman, and I'm
experiencing a small issue with Notepad++ that I didn't had before way back
in 9.45-49.
When you click the New toolbar button, the entire toolbar and blinking
cursor disappear, not being available again to view and use unless I press
F11 (fullscreen) twice so it "refreshes", or so I think it

Re: Weird Notepad++ toolbar bug
Hi,
This bug is not a necesary a wine bug. There was a logic coding bug with the toolbar in notepad++ and at one point could work only if was compliled with the old Visual Studio 7 (2003).
This version you allso downloaded and worked correct even in Wine.
I maintain a custom version of Notepad++ @ phpBB forums here (http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=802725). This is the

NotePad++ Syntax file
Does anyone have an R Syntax Highlighting file {userDefineLang.xml} for NotePad++?? I've started one, but I'm not so happy with it.

Multinomial logistic regression under R and Stata
Dear Colleagues
I have been fitting some multinomial logistic regression models using R
(version 1.6.1 on a linux box) and Stata 7. Although the vast majority
of the parameter estimates and standard errors I get from R are the same
as those from Stata (given rounding errors and so on), there are a few
estimates for the same model which are quite different. I would be most
grateful if

Problem installing Stata - "no windows program configured"
Hello all,
I need to use Stata to collaborate with some colleagues on a project. I use Linux Mint exclusively on my computers. Though Stata licenses are OS-independent, the university I'm at only supports Mac and Windows. Stata is available through a university-wide license for those operating systems. Unfortunately, they refuse to offer a download for Linux users. Since I don't want to

Help with write.foreign (exporting data to Stata)
Hi. I'm trying to export a dataframe from R into Stata to use a statistical
function I have there. I attached library write.foreign and renamed my
variables to get them to match Stata's required format, and now have the
following error: "file /tmp/Rtmps7rmrM/file1c06dac8.raw not found" Other
than typing write.foreign, do I need to do something in R to get it to save

Retrieving column descriptions into Stata
Dear All,
I am working on a project with Stata 7 datafiles. I'm trying to do some
of my analysis in R since I don't have Stata handy. My problem is with
accessing the Stata column descriptions. (Part of the project is to
clean up these column descriptions.)
I imported the Stata files ok using the standard
X <- read.dta("c:/testdata/test1.dta")
test1.dta has column

Tetrachoric correlation in R vs. stata
I hope someone here knows the answer to this since it will save me from
delving deep into documentation.
Based on 22 pairs of vectors, I have noticed that tetrachoric
correlation coefficients in stata are almost uniformly higher than those
in R, sometimes dramatically so (TCC=.61 in stata, .51 in R; .51 in
stata, .39 in R). Stata's estimate is higher than R's in 20 out of 22

Stata support in package foreign
As you know, Stata support in 'foreign' was frozen a while back at Stata
version 12. R-core has received a request from a grad student to 'give
top priority' to supporting Stata 13. That is not going to happen, not
least because none of us has access to Stata.
However, according to Stata's documentation both Stata 12 and 13 use
format 115, so foreign::read.dta should be

Stata files
I have a client who uses Stata 11.
Can anyone advise me on ways of transferring data from this version of
Stata to R?
Reading the documentation for read.dta in package foreign it seems it
only allows for versions up to Stata 10. I don't know Stata at all but a
bit of poking around on their website led me to believe Stata 11
couldn't write in Stata 10 format. However Stata 11 can

Stata file and R Interaction :File Size Problem in Import
Hi
I am using Stata 10 and I need to import a data set in stata 10 to R, I

cluster option in stata for random intercept model in the R language?
Dear R-list,
I am currently working on a dataset with a colleague who uses stata.
We fit a random intercept model to the data (decisions clustered in participants) and get closely the same results in stata (using xtreg re) and R (using the lme4 or multilevel package).
Now in stata, there is an additional option for the regression to control for clustering; the vce(cluster clustvar) option,

importing from Stata
Hi,
I have a new job, and everyone here uses Stata. I won't give up on R,
but I must learn better how to exchange data between the two softwares.
I am now focusing on importing data from Stata to R, and I must confess
that I am a bit disappointed with the read.dta function from the foreign
package because IT typically happens that

foreign generates bad Stata data files (PR#13820)
Full_Name: peter muhlberger
Version: 2.7.1
OS: Ubuntu x86_64 dual core
Submission from: (NULL) (70.238.206.13)
I've spent half a day generating .dta files using write.dta only to have them
crash my copy of Stata. I eventually discovered that removing a string variable
with a maximum observed length of 280 characters allows Stata to read the file
without problems. A Stata limit is that the
