deployment survey
Hello Mongrels, Building on the last messages about Fastthread, can we get a detailed survey of the different ways people are deploying their applications? It will help with near-future Mongrel development. Please include the following things: * Framework, if any (Camping, Merb, Rails, Nitro, Ramaze, IOWA, Rack...) * Mongrel version * Mongrel handlers used (rails, dirhandler, camping,

ANNC: qrp - queueing reverse proxy
Hi, I''ve started a new project that uses Mongrel. It basically lets you defer requests to it until other Mongrels in your (Rails) pool becomes free. Rubyforge project page: http://rubyforge.org/projects/qrp/ gems, tarballs and git repo in case they haven''t hit the mirrors yet: http://bogomips.org/ruby/ I should also add that nginx 0.6.7 or later is required for the

Small updates and release plan
Hello Guys, I''ll like to suggest a small release fix before we start doing big changes: platform fixes. Current we''re setting MSWIN32 (mswin32) as platform for Windows gem, but we should be using Gem::Platform::CURRENT instead (i386-mswin32 as current Ruby windows implementation). Also, the jruby/java platform need to be defined. That change will ease the compatibility path

x_send_file sends a 1 byte file
Hello, sorry if creating a dupe... I''m trying to download files to authenticated users in my app. I''ve set up x_send_file. All seems to be correct to me, however when I try to download any file, I get a 1-byte long file downloaded. I am getting this already in development - so no Apache, no lighthttpd, just a mongrel_rails start in the root of my app. Any help/hint would be

swifty fly?
I heard about a new mongrel plugin or version that''s single threaded and uses non-blocking IO with events. It''s called something like "swifty fly". Anyone have a link for it? Thanks.

compress and max upload size?
I am using mongrel_cluster with mod_proxy_balancer and would like to enable compression (assuming it improves throughtput) and limit file size upload. I configured mod_deflate and LimitRequestSize in Apache, but in my trials looks like the proxied calls bypass those directives (the conf goes below). Is there a way to get this? -- fxn # Adapt this .example locally, as usual. # # To be

merb/sequel mutex on or off? proxy_balancer or no?
Just a quick question to those of you using merb and sequel or datamapper. How do you setup your merb app? For example: merb -X off -c 5, then run mod_proxy_balancer or nginx to load balance between the 5 (or whatever #) of merb nodes? merb -X off -d, then simply use something like proxypass merb -c 5, keep the mutex lock and cluster it haproxy, swiftiply, evented mongrel...... http keep-alive?
I read this in a previous post ( http://rubyforge.org/pipermail/mongrel-users/2006-December/002354.html) .... First, Mongrel accepts remote clients and creates one Thread for each request. Mongrel also enforces a single request/response using Connect:close headers because Ruby only supports 1024 files (so far). If Mongrel doesn''t do this then people like yourself can write a simple

Nginx, Mongrel, Proxy and REMOTE_ADDR
I''m using a cluster of mongrels behind an apache 1.3 proxy pass. I''ve been passing the request to pen, which in turn balances the cluster of mongrels. Now, I''d like to be able to use a different server to send the static files created by the rails application, so I tried to replace pen with nginx. Everything seems to work fine except the environment variable REMOTE_ADDR.

Rails + postgres case insensitive searches.
Hello all I am wondering how rails handles case sensitivity in databases. If I do a Person.find_all_by_name("tim") in mysql I would expect to get tim, TIm, and Tim. Do I only get tim in postgres? How do other people deal with this? Do you resort to find_by_sql for all your postgres queries to get case insensitive results?

Can''t use Gruff with Rails
Hello list, I''m having a problem getting Gruff working with Rails on a Windows XP box. I installed RMagick, then Gruff via the win32 gem, and it seemed to go OK. From irb, I can do the following - require ''rubygems'' ##### This returns ''false'', but seems to work OK - require ''gruff'' ####### Ditto - g = Gruff::Bar.new etc., and I get

sendfile and mongrel
forgive me if this has been resolved already... I have an app that is using sendfile to return large files to customers. We can''t use regular Apache to handle this static content since the files are what the customers are paying for - so it wouldn''t be cool for anyone else to get access to them. The issue is that the mongrel mem footprint gets bloated when the files are

Best practice Ruby on Rails on Windows configuration
Hi, I have read many articles on the net today about configuring Ruby on Rails on a Windows server. But there doesn''t seem to a one solution for all on how to configure a new Ruby on Rails server. So I can use some advise with this. I am using a Windows 2003 server and don''t get many request a day. But most of the request are quite heavy. The main focus is on optimizing the

Mongrel 1.0.2 on Ubuntu Feisty
Hi everybody, I''ve been trying to setup a Ruby on Rails application on a Ubuntu Feisty machine and I''ve spent a lot of time trying to figure out why Nginx and mongrel_cluster weren''t working. Most reliable setup for mongrel
I''m looking for the most reliable setup for Mongrel. Reliable meaning avoiding things like sending too many requests to a single mongrel process, or sending requests to a mongrel process that has hung for some reason. The handler will most likely be rails, but it might be a custom handler. SSL is also a requirement, which limits the options a bit but it can''t be done away
