uefi and bios bootable optical media
We have been using syslinux (V4.05) in our product for years without a problem.
Since we encounter more and more systems that do a UEFI boot by default
we want to support that too. So I've been using syslinux V6.03 to create
usb sticks and harddisks to allow both bios and uefi boot which works fine.
The problem I run into now is that it is not possible to create a
dvd that is capable of

Well other than the name, it does not have anything in common with DVD
because IIRC it's a Magneto Optical drive ... totally different Tech.

Wine can't see DVD drives, and wont open some apps
I've installed Wine 1.3.28 on Ubuntu 11.04. I've been having some odd problems that I can't seem to get around. My optical disk drives aren't visible when I try to use applications like DVD Shrink, I can't seem to detect them. When I try to install some apps like Amazon Kindle and WoW, they will install, but just not open. When I run Startcraft II, it'll play, but it

Official CentOS CD/DVD Vendor Program
All,
I would like to announce our Official CentOS CD/DVD Vendor Program.
We currently have 3 vendors, and 2 more who are putting together their
information. (Not bad ... the official program has been going for less
than 12 hours :)
The details of the program (how to get in it, what they give back to the
CentOS Project, etc.) are here:

DVD reader: Hardware problem or OS glitch?
Hello: The box is dual boot (Win XP & CentOS 5). A Dell Dimension
4300 Celeron. There was an intermittent problem with this last year
and last Thanksgiving, I wiped the HD and installed Win XP and CentOS
5 clean. My daughter asked me to install KStars which is in the kdeedu
RPM on the Fedora Core 6 Install DVD. I did that, without any
problems, on my box and on my wife's box. On the

Cannot boot from DVD on an Intel Svr to install CentOS 5.2
Hi, I'm new to CentOS and I want to install CentOS 5.2 on an intel computer to use it as a server.
I downloaded the CentOS 5.2 DVD iso i386 and did the md5sum, burned the DVD and everything was Ok but when I try to boot the server with the DVD, it simply does nto boot, like if nothing were in the DVD drive. I tried with a Vista DVD and it boots. It can even boot from the LiveCD.
Have anybody

DVD writer problem
I have an NEC DVD-RW ND2500A (that's not the label I bought it under,
but that's what it really is.) It's supposed to read/write CDs, DVDs,
DVD+Rs, and DVD-Rs. I'm basically dual booting between XP and CentOS 4.
Following the recipe in "The Linux Cookbook", I tried to copy a DVD using:
dd if=/dev/hdd of=/tmp/diskfile.iso
then
cdrecord dev=/dev/hdd fs=32m

problems with burning i386 centos 6 dvd
Hey guys,
Thanks a lot for the CentOS 6 distro. I am having trouble burning the i386
dvds. I tried on a RHEL 6 deskop and also a CentOS 5 laptop. The command I
am running on both systems is this:
growisofs -dvd-compat -speed=4 -Z
/dev/sr0=/home/gsgatlin/CentOS-6.0-i386-bin-DVD/CentOS-6.0-i386-bin-DVD.iso
The error I am seeing is:
:-( /dev/sr0: 2295104 blocks are free, 2297586 to be written!

Softlinking to a dvd-drive with inconsistent mount points?
In Suse 9.2, it was easy to softlink to a drive from
/home/username/.wine/dosdevices because the mount
point for the drive was always the same. That is,
/media/dvdrecorder was always where the disc would get
mounted.
NOW, with Suse 9.3, the mount point is
/media/DISC_NAME. Since each disk has a different
name, there is never a consistent mount point. So, I
can't make Wine's

DVD Drive wont mount

Could not mount device.
The reported error was:

Has anyone got a solution for this?
Thanks,

Changes to get CD to boot on EFI System.
I've been the maintainer of the G4L project since 2004, and have had great
success using syslinux, but yesterday I ran into a machine that would not
boot from the CD. The system system was a Lenovo L540 notebook, and it
seems to use EFI? Disabled the Secure EFI, but it still would not boot.
Comes up with the syslinux menu and seems to load the kernel, but then it
just stops. Never shows

36 FPS using ubuntu-classic desktop, drops to 4 FPS xubuntu
Hello
Recently upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04 and not liking unity I swtiched to xubuntu but was perturbed to find my World of Warcraft FPS drop from 36 FPS in Ubuntu 10.10 and Ubuntu 11.04 'ubuntu classic' down to 3/4 FPS xubuntu.
Again, to confirm it wasn't anything in the upgrade I made sure that the FPS is as normal in 11.04 when I select 'Ubuntu Classic' when logging in rather

new laptop: DVD or Blu-ray
One of the build options for a laptop I'm looking at buying is DVD vs
Blu-Ray. I've never used Blue-ray before, so is there some compelling
reason, as a Linux guy, to want to get Blu-ray?

virt-install hell: how to *force* a local CD-ROM install?
I have a CentOS 5.6 system with a AMD Sempron(tm) Processor LE-1300
(which does not provide hardware virtualization support, so I can't use
the --cdrom option) and I am *trying* to install FC15 as a guest O/S
using a local FC15 DVD-ROM image. Everything work until the installer
*insists* on firing up the network to get the repo data, etc. I have a
*dial-up* Internet connection and this is a

Custom CentOS DVD, isolinux.bin, and isohybrid...
I was given a custom CentOS 5.4 DVD, containing some Digium software for one of our customers. I need to turn this burned DVD into an image that can be written to a USB thumb drive. First, I ripped the DVD to an ISO image. That part works OK, my testing VM can load and run the custom kickstart script on the image. After totally frying my unetbootin install, I decided to try and use isohybrid
