Problem with external monitor on laptop
I am running opensuse Leap 15 on an Alienware laptop. When I plug a
monitor into the HDMI socket xrandr shows that is disconnected. How can
I get the system to send an event or something so it will look and see
that a monitor is there. If I cycle power on the computer with the
monitor connected both monitors come up connected. The command xrandr
--auto does not bring the disconnected monitor

limited resolution on DVI and HDMI at the same time
I got 1920x1200 at 59.95Hz via DVI and 3840x2160 at 60.00Hz via HDMI at the
same time with the proprietary nvidia driver.
I get flickering on the 1920x1200 at 59.95 with the nouveau driver (it
doesn't flicker if I lower it to 1920x1080 at 59.96).
Any idea why?

Screen Resolution issues
Hi. I'm having a rather peculiar problem; when running any fullscreen game that has been set to a smaller resolution than the one I'm using (1680x1050, I have a widescreen monitor), moving my mouse to the edges of the screen kind of shifts the view.
For example, I have Warcraft III running at 1280x960, I move my mouse to the right edge of the screen, and then the view moves along with

How to set a different resolution?
I just gave nouveau a try and was surprised that it just works out of
the box on Mandriva. Great work!
However, I'm not sure how to set up a different resolution properly.
With the closed nvidia driver, I usually just click on krandrtray in KDE
and pick a different resolution.
With nouveau driver, though, it works as well, but only partially.
I can see the resolution is theoretically

Setting Resolution Modes in xorg.conf
I asked on the Gentoo forums, and surprisingly haven't gotten an answer.
When I run xrandr, I get this output:
Code:

default connected 2960x1050+0+0 0mm x 0mm
2960x1050 50.0*
I'm using TwinView with a 1680x1050 monitor and a 1280x1024 monitor. And I want to set up some different modes in xrandr. When

WINE and NVIDIA issues - scrolling away from fullscreen
Hi everybody :)
I seem to have a problem with my WINE running fullscreen applications, such as games. When I start, say, a fullscreen game, it does start in fullscreen, but if I move my mouse to the right or bottom edge of the screen, the game screen "scrolls away", and I'm shown my desktop (at a lower resolution). When I pull my mouse/touchpad back to the left or upper edge, the

Morrowind GOTY on Darwine - empty resolution list?
I hope it's ok to ask about Darwine on these forums. I installed Morrowind GOTY on OSX using Darwine and it starts. But I can't set a resolution as the list of resolutions is empty. It recognises an NVIDIA graphics card but no resolutions. Any ideas how to get this working? Thanks

Emulate a lower desktop resolution for web browsing/flash
Hi,
My TV isn't big enough to read text when browsing websites (we sit far
away) and flash performance is awful at 1920x1080.
So I'm looking into ways to decrease the desktop resolution.
But my TV (Samsung 46" F series) only supports 1920x1080 via the VGA
connector - any lower resolution and it jumps to 1280x1024 which is
4:3 and makes widescreen flash content play squashed.

Nouveau DRM failure on 5120x1440 screen with 5.8/5.9 kernel
I'm having a problem with both the 5.8 and 5.9 kernels using the nouveau DRM
driver. I have a laptop with a VGA card (specs below) connected to a 5120x1440
screen. At boot time, the card correctly detects the screen, tries to allocate
fbdev fb0, then the video hangs completely for 15-30 seconds until it goes
blank.
This used to work in Linux 5.7 and earlier, although it allocated a 3840x1080

fullscreen uses panning, and xrandr has cursor moving
I'm having a problem with games running in wine fullscreen with nvidia proprietary driver 185.18 under Fedora 11 64-bit.
My desktop resolution is 1920x1200, and when I run a game with 1280x960 fullscreen setup (like Halo for example), it changes resolution to 1280x960 and runs fullscreen as expected, but when I move the mouse toward the edge rapidly, it pans the game screen away as if

NV50: xv fullscreen issues
Hi,
I've been trying out nouveau for a while now and I must say I'm impressed. Performance in KDE4 in general seems better than the nvidia blob; way to go!
There are a couple of annoyances though:
XV in fullscreen doesn't work. I'm running in composite mode, and non fullscreen video works well enough. Going fullscreen in e.g gmplayer gives me:

Wine and multiple X screens at different resolutions
Hello! I am a great fan of wine, and find it gets better every day. However, there is one problem that is almost make or break for me that I wonder is something just on my end or a genuine bug. I represent a small subset of wine users: those who have two LCD screens at different aspect ratios. I have a 20 inch 4:3 LCD at 1280x1024 and a 22 widescreen LCD at 1680x1050.
