Wine in kubuntu-9.04
I cannot get wine to run in kubuntu-9.04, on an x-64 machine. This is with the standard video drivers, nothing extra added. I have tried both the wine version in the repository, and the beta version from budgetdirect(?). Winecfg does run in the repository version, not in the beta version. It does run in the 32-bit version of kubuntu-9.04, on a 32 bit machine. Basically, it won't run anything at

Extreme frustration with GIMP
I am not a graphics person. Also can't afford to hire one. Trying to follow instructions at https://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-tutorial-quickie-separate.html I use the "intelligent scissors" just like they say, spend quite a bit of effort doing so. Then click the foreground select tool - just like they say - and suddenly everything I did with the intelligent tool is undone. WTF?

Extreme frustration with GIMP
I saw Fred's later reply and am glad someone knew how to do it. I feel your pain, the gimp documentation isn't always the best. If you aren't already aware, when your work is suddenly undone, remember that Ctrl-Z (UnDo) is your friend. I found that I had to look for gimp tutorials on the web wherever I could and use the one that worked (as you discovered - not all do). And then

Running Photoshop on a relatively old PC
For several months I've been thinking about moving to Linux operating system. This would resque our old machine which is getting left behind when it comes to hardware (and it would also put fun back into computing). The problem is that if I convert the only machine our family has to Linux, it would mean that an important program, Photoshop, which we use everyday has to be abandoned. This

splash screen
Is the splash screen RLE is standard 640x480x4 or a modified one because I can neither open the file in Photoshop CS2 (Windows under ext2fsd) or Gimp 2.2 (Linux 2.6.12.16ubuntu) and I am unable to decipher Perl scripts. Will syslinux support standard RLE?

Running Portable Photoshop with Wine
Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum and new to Linux and anything having to do with it. I'm actually trying to solve a friend's problem. My apologies if anything I'm about to say turns out to be grossly ignorant... My friend is running Kubuntu on a Aspire One that has about 500 megs of space on it, most of which is taken up by the OS I'm assuming. She seems to have less than

Wacom Tablet Pressure Sensitivity Issue!
I use Wine 1.0 rc4 on Fedora Core 5. My Wacom Intuous 3 works well on GIMP. It accept Pressure of tablet well, so I think proper Tablet Driver was installed. But, on WIne, Pressure Sensitivity don't influence at all. I tested Photoshop CS, CS2, and ZBrush on Wine 1.0 rc4, nothing could accept Pressure of Tablet. I modified xorg.conf, so GIMP can work properly. How can I solve the problem?

Photoshop CS2 Crash under Wine, "Unable to continue because of a hardware or system error. Sorry, but this error is unrecoverable."
I recently came across a post (circa jan-feb 2008) where a user had encountered a fatal and unrecoverable crash when starting Photoshop for the second or subsequent time. I've noticed that this issue has happened to many people, myself included while installing it on someone's system today, and that, while there is a short-term workaround (noted below), nobody has yet posted an actual

Wine and multiple X screens at different resolutions
Hello! I am a great fan of wine, and find it gets better every day. However, there is one problem that is almost make or break for me that I wonder is something just on my end or a genuine bug. I represent a small subset of wine users: those who have two LCD screens at different aspect ratios. I have a 20 inch 4:3 LCD at 1280x1024 and a 22 widescreen LCD at 1680x1050. Through Nvidia's control
