Windows setup requires 486?
What's the deal with Windows setup? I tried running setup to see if I could install Windows 98 in Wine to set up the necessary dlls and such, and it complains "Windows 98 requires a computer with an 80486 processor or higher." I'm running a P-II. Does Wine report back something other than the actual processor, or is there something else going on? Thanks, Dave --

windows native dlls
I've read that to get some apps working I could try coping files from native win to wine dir. It was said that some dlls do not work. I remember there was gdiplus, user32, kernel, and directx. I would like to know if there is exact list of dlls that are not going to work with wine. Or if there's script to copy dlls from native win install to wine dir.

Install all Windows XP DLLs
I need to know is there some utility I can use to install all my Windows XP DLLs on my Wine install? I have a legal copy of Windows XP I never use, so I might as well add all the native DLLs to my Wine install, thus insuring all my Windows apps will always work, no need for the reverse engineered Wine DLLs to run my Windows applications.

repository of earlier Windows versions of R packages
Dear Helpers, I was trying to find a repository of earlier Windows versions of R packages. However, while I can find the Archives for Linux versions (in the "Old Sources" section of each package's Downloads) , I cannot find one for Windows versions. Does such a repository exist? If so, where can I find it?ThanksJonathan Williams [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

How much can you do without native windows?
Hi, I''m running Mandrake 8.0 and I''d like to be able to run some windows applications without using windows at all. I suppose the main thing that stops me ditching windows completely is my children not being able to run their various games and educational software (e. g. Dorling Kindersley CDROMs "Eyewitness Encyclopedia of Science", "Eyewitness History of the

Native 9x and config
All, Anyone willing to share a .wine/config that's working with a 9x install? I've been playing around, even blowing away the win98 slice and installing it from scratch, but when running wineboot, I still get 10-15 crashes to the debugger. So far, about all I can run is notepad sucessfully. The ironic thing is, if I use just wine, I have much fewer problems, but would like to be able to

Wine install problem - undefined reference to `bMenuVisible'
I installed 1.1.6 and it was working fine except for one application. I installed 0.9.32 after changing my .wine directory to .wine_bak. (someone mentioned that they had got my application to work on the older version). The application still didn't work, so I changed my .wine directory to .wine932, and changed my .wine_bak to .wine. At that point I expected everything to be back to where I had

Wine 1.0 on Fedora 16 64-bit
Hello I am trying to install Oblivion on Fedora 16 64-bit but am having problems with the install sheild crashing. I have read that this is because of the 64 bit wine so I am trying to build an older version of wine from source. However I am having problems with this aswell. I suspect that this is because of the 64-bit OS aswell. the reason I say this is that it appears 'make' is still

Benefits from using original Windows DLLs?
Hello, I still own MS Windows NT 4 Workstation and Windows95 both on CD. According to the FAQ Windows can't be installed using Wine, but the DLLs could be extracted and used with Wine. Is there much benefit from doing this? I guess the DLLs could be copied to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system right? If it makes sense, what is best to used, Win95 or Win NT4? Is this procedure legally

Java client error on Windows 7 64 bit for Libvirt on KVM
Hi, I need some help in building a Java client on Windows 7 64 bit plaftorm to manage a KVM using the libvirt APIs. Using the instructions at http://libvirt.org/java.html, i was able to build libvirt.jar. My understanding is that libvirt.jar uses JNA to call libvirt's native windows library. I tried using the libvirt dlls in the experimental Windows installation package mentioned in

Using Wine with windows partition
So here, i looked a bit around the web on the subject and found: - That using wine such way can be damaging to the partition and/or windows it self. - That using original Windows DLLs can be quite helpful to some applications. As you can see results were sided, it seemed successful to some. My Idea was: - Through fstab, make the partition automatically mounted on /media/winxp (already) - Make a
