Rd installation (not markup language) primer?
I have a set of functions that I always load on startup. for example,
there is my now infamous "is.defined()" function.
I would like to add some documentation for these functions, so that I can do a
?is.defined
inside R. The documentation tells me how to mark up Rd files is very
good, but I wonder how one installs them for access by the R
executable (on OSX for me). Do I drop

can't compile on OSX: unsetenv header issues
Hi,
A recent change has R failing to compile (for me) on ppc OSX 10.4.8 like this:
../../../../R-devel/src/main/datetime.c: In function `reset_tz':
../../../../R-devel/src/main/datetime.c:511: error: void value not ignored as it ought to be
I suspect there is some sort of configure magic that needs to happen
to get the POSIX compatible unsetenv on OSX. Here's what I think is

O/T: Good OSX Primer
A bit off topic, but I know there are a lot of smart Mac evangelists on
the list so I thought I''d pose the question here.
I made the switch to OS X after Apple moved to the x86 platform. Now
that VMWare can be ported to OS X, it''s a practical platform for me.
I''m an ex *nix admin, so I ''get the drift''; however, I''m looking for a

Paste in File Manager & keyboard issues
I am brand new to Wine. Just downloaded it (for OSX) and got it going today. I actually used Winebottler (http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/), but I think my problems are symptoms of Wine itself.
I am using Wine primarily to play my favorite game, Anarchy Online, on my new iMac sans bootcamp. The game installed fine, it loads up and seems to run well, but many of the keys needed for the game

OSX 10.6 Clients on a 3.4.11 Server
Hello,
I'm running Samba 3.4.11 on CentOS 5.2.. I Have some users at my company
that have recently upgraded their macs to Snow Leopard 10.6.6 and are
running in to some SMB issues. When they mount a share they can
move, delete, copy folders just fine. If they open and close a file in one
of those folders though, they cannot rename, delete, or move the folder
because samba has it locked and

[LLVMdev] clang++ on MacOSX with fsf-gcc libstdc++?
Hi,
the subject says it all...
After some experimenting, I got a bit confused as far as what the proper thing to do might be....
I build llvm/clang from trunk sources on OSX Lion 10.7.3 (i.e. x86_64-apple-darwin11.3.0 to speak GNU's platform-ese) where I also have successfully built a fsf-gcc 4.6.2 (and lately a 4.7 for that matter) from sources.
Now, I think I understand that by playing

Re: XCP which management console to use - plus XenServer question
Thanks for all the help...
XVP seems quite high on requirements. Like it needs an SMTP server set
up. I''m not sure I like that.
I found a tool called BixData, it''s proprietary but with a free
license for a limited number of managed servers. Being a fully fledged
cloud management system, it''s true overkill for me and my 3-4 virtual
machines, but at least it seems quite

Randomly occurring file losses on samba share
Hello,
having migrated from OSX Server with AFP filesharing, we've experienced a problem with randomly occurring file losses on our samba server. Due to the fact we were not able to reproduce the problem reliably, we are quite clueless what could cause this behavior and therefore desperately looking for any hints.
The Server in question is running Ubuntu 14.04LTS with the Version of Samba

OSX Server - Excel files
Hi, I am new to this list, so please excuse any redundancy in my
question.
I have 60 Windows XP users who are tied into three Mac OSX File -
Xserve file servers. There is one big problem - ... we are having
issues with Excel files, that on occasion, are not being recognized,
taking literally minutes to load and other quirky abnormalities. Excel
on the XP desktop machines will refuse to save

Mount unix samba 4 share to osx client without mangled file names
Hello,
I have a unix server (arch linux) with samba 4.1.14. The share has files
inside which where created directly on the server. Linux and OSX
(10.10.1) clients should access the share and store files.
When I mount this samba share into the osx client (10.10.1), files
created directly on the server with special names like `File with
"quotes"` are displayed mangled (`C7XSWH~V`) on the

Installing Wine on OSX
I have a new iMac 2.66GHz with 4 GB of RAM. I would like to be able to continue to use the WinXP game, IL2. I know it runs under Wine, thanks to this site. Now I learn that I do not have to use Boot Camp to install Linux or Windows but that Wine will work directly with OSX. Needless to say, this is great news to me.
I have downloaded Wine 1.1.13 and have opened the readme file. There, I

OS X client symlinks
When you say “real symlinks on OSX” do you mean an “alias” that Finder would create? Or a Unix-type symlink using the “ ln -s file link” command in Terminal? A Finder alias is not the same as a Unix-type symlink.
My NAS runs Debian Linux with version 4.3.11 of smbd; my clients are all OSX Mojave.
If I create an alias using Finder on the NAS, it behaves like a normal alias in OSX UNLESS I move

OSX Yosemite (10.10): Are package binaries the same as for OSX Mavericks (10.9)?
I'm trying to help someone to troubleshoot possible OSX Yosemite
issues, but I've only got access to OSX (< 10.9) so I cannot check
myself.
When building/installing binary R packages, there are different
binaries depending on OSX version. For instance, CRAN provides
different binaries for 'OS X Snow Leopard' and 'OS X Mavericks', e.g.

Confusion regarding rsync vs. rsyncx
We currently do backup using rsync amongst Linux and Solaris machines.
Modulo an ACL issue that we had to patch, this is working extremely well.
But I want to add our OSX machines to the mix. This is, unfortunately,
leaving me confused about rsyncx.
I can do the normal thing from OSX using rsync. But the page for rsyncx
says - cryptically, in my ignorant opinion - that rsyncx adds support for

Mount unix samba 4 share to osx client without mangled file names
Hi Ralph,
Thanks, it works as expected with 4.2.0rc2! I simply followed the manual
and added this to the share's config:
vfs objects = catia fruit streams_xattr
fruit:resource = file
fruit:metadata = netatalk
fruit:locking = netatalk
fruit:encoding = native
Thanks for your help.

Status of Wine64 on OSX?
Hi,
I know Wine64 is still experimental, and I've read threads from last Summer stating that Wine64 won't build nor run on OSX at this time.
However, Wine64 would be really useful for me on OSX, because I build small simple apps for both win32 and win64 mode, and being able to crosscompile and run them from OSX would be a great time saver for me.
So, what's the status of Wine64 on

Symbolic links not visible on osx 10.10
Hello,
I'm using the latest git 4.2.0 samba version (4.2.0rc4-GIT-93b73bf, to
get latest vfs_fruit module). I noticed the following strange behavior
with OSX clients (10.10.1, 10.10.2 beta):
When they connect using either smb 3.0 or 2.1 (verified on the server
with `smbstatus` and the `version` column `SMB3_00` or `SMB2_10`
respectively), symbolic links pointing at non existent files are not

UNZ FM TOWNS Emulator not reading discs
Hello all,
I've got Unz (FM Towns emulator) running under wine but its not capable of reading the original FM Towns CDROM images on my Mac.
I have it working under Windows XP using Daemon Tools to mount the ISO but under OSX it does not work. I have the ISO mounted under finder and have pointed my wine configuration to the mount point. No luck.
Has anyone successfully got this running under
