Starwars Racer ?
Hi,
Have you ever heard of "success stories" with Star Wars Racer? My recent
version of WineX just shows a blank 1024x768 screen and does nothing
more.

Lazy Samba (that'd make it Waltz)
Funny thing happening with an NT Client: it sees all the files in a
public Samba share, but when I make any change (like renaming a file or
dropping files into it) the change doesn't show up in the window until I
press F5 (Refresh). Is it some config in Samba whichs defaults to "lazy"
behavior which I'm failing to see?
Thanx 4All,
Juan

Strange soundcard problem w/4.2
Hi there,
I'm trying to repurpose an unused machine (athlon XP 3000+) for my young
daughter to use. It's on a motherboard with a VIA KT880 chipset and VIA
integrated soundcard (VIA 8237). The card seems to be detected during
boot time and shows up in the system log, but when I try to actually use
the sound card within Gnome, there's no sound. The device is detected,

Odd PRI Behavior
When using a PRI, after the remote party hangs up, asterisk tries to spawn
a call to the "h" extension. Is this normal behavior for a pri to try to
call the "h" extension to try to clean things up?
Call Comes In:
-- Executing Dial("Zap/1-1", "SIP/16464436000@AST-237.65") in new stack

Wine release 1.0
The Wine team is proud to announce that Wine 1.0 is now available.
This is the first stable release of Wine after 15 years of development
and beta testing. Many thanks to everybody who helped us along that
long road!
While compatibility is not perfect yet, thousands of applications have
been reported to work very well. Check http://appdb.winehq.org to see

NICE2 and wine
Hi,
I'm trying to get N.I.C.E. 2 (3D car racer) to run under wine but it
doesn't work. I'm using my existing Windows98SE with wine.
Wine (20010305 / Debian unstable) starts up and freezes my X.
Any suggestions ?
Thx,
Alex

Logon Musings
I'm toying with the idea of writing a Samba-oriented Win95/98/NT logon
window. I know it's possible to replace Windows' logon mechanism with
another. Novell's Client32 does this. I know there's also standards to
make a network service available to Windows' change-password mechanism
(so I can fire smbpasswd on the other side). That could be an
alternative to establishing

Bloody H3ll... I replied only to the person who sent it. Hey, maybe this list

Not in Group?
Hi! Is there any syntax for read list or write list in smb.conf that
allows me to specify users NOT in a group? Something like
read list = !@writers
Cheers,

Does Samba need to see the world?
Our ISP experienced backbone problems yesterday. Our backbone provider's
backbone provider (EMBRATEL, the newly-privatized telecom company of
Brazil) went down for a few hours. That was a big problem itself, but
what I'll tell you is a weird side effect:
Samba stopped working on our local network!!!
I checked DNS, resolv.conf, /etc/hosts, smb.conf, everything! While our

Open Letter to the Samba Team
Hi people,
I've seen enough threads about performance to come to the conclusion
that the following things should be in the distributed smb.conf:
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_SNDBUF=8192 SO_RCVBUF=8192
read prediction = yes
debug level = 0 ;yeah, explicit - the default seems not to be 0
Everybody that uses these reports enormous performance boosts (including
ME!). If this causes

Wine and 3D rendering issues
Hi everyone,
I hate to ask n00bish questions, but after several days of forum scouring and searching for answers, I'm at a loss as to where to go next.
I'm a long-time Linux CLI user, but I haven't really played with Wine or many aspects of the GUI-end until recently. I've been trying to get two of my favorite Windows games to run on my Debian Testing install, and keep coming to

Synchronization mostly missing?
It seems that Noveau is assuming that once the FIFO pointer is past a
command, that command has finished executing, and all the buffers it
used are no longer needed.
However, this seems to be false at least on G71.
In particular, the card may not have even finished reading the input
vertex buffers when the pushbuffer "fence" triggers.
While Mesa does not reuse the buffer object itself,
