Steam Installation Errors
Hey guys, I'm sure that this question has already been answered. If so, could someone direct me to the answer. The problem is that, steam.exe cannot access the Internet. My Internet service is fine, and I have not had any problems with steam accessing the Internet in the past. The problem only started a few days ago, and I am not sure what the cause is. I have tried basically everything. I

Cannot start Amnesia nor Penumbra via Steam
Greetings! First of all, I would like to say thank you to everyone who are spending their time into making Wine what it is, and better! I would offer my help if I had the ability to actually do something, but I have yet much to learn, but in the future, perchance... Anyways! A few days ago, I thought I would play some Penumbra: Overture. I have played it before, so I was a bit surprised as it

steam games not running
Hey, I am trying to get steam/steam-gaming working on my system. I have gotten the steam client working, but fail to launch games. I will be using half-life as the game I am trying to launch for this topic as it is one that most people can get running as far as i can tell. I have a x86_64 intel i7 system with a nVidia GT218 [NVS 3100M] graphics card. I am running Fedora 13 , and distribution

Higher than normal CPU usage in wine 1.4
I'm seeing abnormally high CPU usage in win32 apps. Is anyone else seeing this? I am aware that wine will introduce mild overhead in some apps and severe overhead in others, but what I'm witnessing seems a little excessive as it seems to be across the board. I'm trying to identify what I'm doing wrong, because I'm observing the same behavior across different distributions,

SegFault trying to open Steam
This is very possibly an easy fix, as I've had steam running on this particular box before through wine. However, I've been googling my ass off and looking through the suggested fixes on the appdb to no avail. Let's start with my setup: OS: Slackware 13.37 (64 bit with working multilib) completely up to date Video: NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT running the most recent linux 64 bit

Question about Steam.
I am running wine1.3, installed from the winehq repo on ubuntu 10.10. I installed steam through winetricks, nothing else. After this i told steam to start installing civ V. And for some time it just downloader with 1.4mb/sec. then suddenly everything stopped... and all i could squeeze out of my connection was 150kb/sek. Is there anything in wine1.3, or perhaps steam running under wine1.3 that

Apps segfaulting, problem with X?
Hello, I'm having big trouble getting wine to work. What I basically want to do is get steam to work, now it even fails to launch at all. It updates to 99% and then it segfaults. Other games has done this too (rollercoaster tycoon 2, starcraft 2). I followed the instructions on winehq, removed oriya/samyak fonts and I don't think I've done anything wrong - I've installed steam

Installing steam to my wine prefix?
The only way I know to install steam is via winetricks, the steaminstall.msi doesn't seem to work, at least not out of the box. I'm trying to install steam, and succeeded, but it installed it to ~/.local/share/wineprefixes/steam, whereas I normally install stuff to ~/.wine. How do I make winetricks install to there? I tried "winetricks steam prefix=/Users/Cole/.wine" but that

Steam on WINE with Fedora 17
Hello, I am not sure if this is the most optimal place to ask this question, but I may as well go ahead and shoot: Steam will not login. I have a day old install of Fedora 17, and am going through my usual routine of using and tweaking a new release until it breaks. Unfortunately, I am cut off from my primary messenger, Steam. I have set SELinux to permissive, even went as far as installing the

Can somebody contact "Spot" and ask him if Steam for Linux can be compiled on CentOS 6.x? http://spot.fedorapeople.org/steam/ or will someone try it from src rpm's (same folder)? or is someone willing to take over building the rpm the old fashioned way from https://github.com/xvitaly/steamrpm ? I am to relocate to another town for new job and can not afford the spare time :-/

Secret of Monkey Island SE, steam on wine, crashes on start
I'm wondering if anyone can help me? I'm trying to run Secret of Monkey Island special edition in Steam on wine with Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat. I can install steam and use it to install the game (after it installs directx), apparently with no problems, but when I try to run the game, a window opens saying "Preparing to launch The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition". Unhandled exception launching games from Steam
So after years of running a 'pure' Linux machine, I finally decided to install Wine so I could play some of my old games - and it's been a disaster. Using either Wine 1.5.3 or 1.3.3 trying to launch Half-Life Source results in nothing happening, trying to launch from the commandline gives this stack trace: Code: wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address

Connection problems with Steam games
Hello, I've been having problems trying to run Steam games. The Steam itself takes up a lot of resources even when idle, for some reason, but the games run rather smoothly - in menu that is. Most of the games I have on steam are multiplayer games, and as the topic title suggests, I can't ever get to play them due to problems on connection. When playing Men of War, the game freezes on

Hello, I've recently installed wine without any special modifiers, I did it through the add/remove programs on Ubuntu 9.04. Steam installed without a problem, but will not run. After it was done installing, it gave me the 'updating steam' box and then just quits with no error. Here is the output of the terminal window while installing: Code: guy at

[CoD:Black Ops] - Using STEAM, Keyboard Not Work In Full Screen?
[CoD:Black Ops] - Using STEAM, Keyboard Not Work In Full Screen? Hi, I can't run Black Ops in full screen under current Wine. I'm using Valve's Steam client which is the issue. I have to log into Steam client to play the game. After I run game, Steam steals the keyboard focus and I am stuck in the game (full screen) with no exit? (have to reset my computer to get out of it)

Deus Ex: Invisible Wars on Steam - Cannot launch
Hi, as some of you may know, there were some issues reported recently about the Steam version of this game not starting. Presumably the solution was to compile wine 1.2+ with a recent version of GCC and binutils, so that the copy protection software could hook certain functions. I've done this, and I've posted some details in the bug tracker ( http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23553).
