Microsoft Office 2007 installed but won't work
I am new to Linux. I am running Ubuntu 10.10. I used the wine (1.2.1) included with Ubuntu, to install Microsoft Office 2007. All of the office products (word, Powerpoint, etc.) show up on the Applications>Wine>Programs>Microsoft Office menu. Unfortunately, not a single one will work. Every product results in the same error message, which indicates that the product has encountered a

Microsoft Office 2007?
Okay I need some help with installing Office 2007 lol. I am able to install one Microsoft Office 2007 program but none after that. I first installed Powerpoint 2007 and it works perfectly. Then I proceeded to install Word 2007 and halfway through the install it stopped and said it encountered an error. Does anyone seem to know what the problem is?

I am using Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex.
Excel opens but, sticks at the splash screen till I press Alt+F4 to close the application because nothing responds except the minimize and maximize buttons and the menus. Once the splash screen disappears then Excel opens a spreadsheet. Excel appears to work okay the next time I open it.
When I try Access I get a message saying Excel has not been registered

When I share it on a samba server it doesn't.
When I open the file, it asks to enable macro's (I need them so say yes) -
everything fine - After that It asks if I want to rework/check the links

Extract text from Microsoft PowerPoint files
Hello CentOS people,
I'm wondering if there are command tools like antiword and docx2txt for
Microsoft PowerPoint files (.ppt and .pptx). The idea is to extract
text from PowerPoint files. Sorry this isn't exactly about CentOS, but
I'd really like it if Yum has something. I tried xlhtml, but it hasn't
been updated in a while and isn't exactly wanting to work on CentOS

R integration with Microsoft Powerpoint
Please allow me an unusual question.
Is there any way that R can be closely integrated with a Microsoft
Powerpoint presentation? I would like to embed R calculations in
Powerpoint so that I will start Powerpoint, be prompted to enter some
parameters, and an R function will run and return values and graphs.
Thanks,
John

Multiple Office 2007 Pro PowerPoint Windows Lock Up Laptop
Hello,
I'm using MS Office 2007 Pro on Ubuntu 10.04 x64 through wine-1.3.17. After a while my laptop will just freeze (like someone took a screenshot) when I have multiple PowerPoint windows open. This problem seems to be only associated with PowerPoint and not the other Office Apps. Also, whenever I minimize the PowerPoint windows they will group together on my taskbar but little gray

Office 2007: Access OK. Excel, Word, Powerpoint: NO
HP ProBook 6460b. OpenSuse 11.4 - 64 KDE
I installed and configure wine (as XP). It works
Then I installed Office 2007 Pro. Strange results: Access and some other tools work fine. Word, Excel and Powerpoint open but stop before I can interact with the message: "MS Excel not installed for the current user. Execute installer program again."
I tried to reinstall many times: some result!!

Strange R squared, possible error
k=lm(y~x)
summary(k)
returns R^2=0.9994
lm(y~x) is supposed to find coef. a anb b in y=a*x+b
l=lm(y~x+0)
summary(l)
returns R^2=0.9998
lm(y~x+0) is supposed to find coef. a in y=a*x+b while setting b=0
The question is why do I get better R^2, when it should be otherwise?
Im sorry to use the word "MS exel" here, but I verified it in exel and it
gives:
R^2=0.9994 when y=a*x+b is used

Hi everybody,
I'm currently working an better implementation of OLE component under Wine. The aim is to be able to insert OLE document in PowerPoint for example.

File owner / group
Hi all,
I have a Samba 3.0.13 with ACL support running under SuSE and acting as a
PDC for the hole organization.
Among some shares, there's one that has about ten subdirectories.
Everybody can access this share and restrictions are applied over those
subdirs.
The problem is that, for example, when I create a file (or modify it with
Word or Exel) in the Finances subdirectory, the file has my

Microsoft Office 2007 and Wine only
First off before I delve into the purpose of this thread I want to lay down a few ground rules. This thread is only about MS OFFICE 2007 (OFFICE 12) and Wine. No Exceptions!
To break it down further I don't want any information about the following alternatives which I know work, but defeat the purpose.
No talk of:
Open Office (Ooo)
MS OFFICE 2000, XP or 2003
CrossOver Office
any emulators

Multiple copies of MS Office Programs
Hello,
This isn't a huge problem, but it is a little annoying. When I right click a ms office file (such as a .ppt, or .doc) and try to open the file in with Wine it lists 4 or 5 copies of either powerpoint or word. Has anyone ever encountered this and if you have any help getting rid of it would be appreciated. I am using Ubuntu 10.04.
Thank you for any help,
John

New rsync option checksum-path
This is a suggestion for adding to rsync an option "--checksum-path=PROGRAM".
Once this option is given, provided it is accompained by option
"--checksum", both the receiving and sending side of rsync would
compute checksums calling PROGRAM, instead of the usual checksum
program.
Why is this usefull? Suppose I have two collections of MP3 files at
different locations which I
