install a DOS application with wine
Hi
I have a relatively small executable (and also the source code) for an
experimental data logging application which was written to be used with
DOS in the middle ages of earth.
I tried to install it using wine.
Wine simply hangs after the second line - no return to prompt - see below:
user@Laptop:~$ wine '/home/user/Desktop/Pocket.exe'

I have two computers: both running CentOS 6.7, 64-bit, with

Wine 1.1.7 and 1.0.1 not working on Intrepid 64 bit
I posted this on Ubuntuforums but after reading a bit more it seems this is mostly used for gaming questions so I decided to come here.
I am running 64 bit Ubuntu intrepid (still a beta but a release candidate). I can see Wine in my application menu but when I go to Programs/Acessories/Notepad nothing happens. I am unable to open the configuration nor am I able to uninstall using the Applications

Lucid LTS: different Wine versions for 32 or 64 bits ?
Hello,
I 've been using Wine 1.2 wjth Ubuntu 10.04-LTS an a 64bit Asus laptop for almost one year.
In the beginning, everything worked OK (graphic refresh, focus, etc...). Now Wine works bad, I suppose some updates in Lucid do not suit Wine 1.2 (?). I tried XP mode, W98 mode (my applications are oldies ;-), but the behaviour seems bad in any case.
On this laptop, synaptic shows Wine 1.2

I tried to resurrect a 32-bit desktop with a Pentium 4 processor by
installing CentOS 7 32-bit version. Everything installed OK, but after
the first boot,

Wine incorrectly appends ".so" to the libraries it loads
The problem itself is that Sins of a Solar Empire does not run under Wine, but I am quite confident that appending an extra ".so" is what's causing this game to crash, so I just made that the subject to hopefully get better results.
I'm using Wine 1.2 on both my desktop computer and my laptop. Sins of a Solar Empire works on the desktop, but not the laptop. I started with a

Web site not responding with Firefox 52.6.0 (64-bit)
I don't know if this is a CentOS7/Firefox problem or one with the distant
web site slashdot.org. I can connect to it just fine with the latest
Firefox on my Windows 10 desktop PC, but not with Firefox 52.6.0 on this
CentOS 7.4 laptop. This has been an on-going problem for several weeks.
Google search results are sketchy. slashdot.org may have been a DDOS
target today, but as I write this

Error with GTA on one box, not on another
Hello,
Running GTA (the first one, freely available on Rockstar site ->
http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/gta.html) on my laptop, I have no
problem in fullscreen.
However, on my desktop computer, where I tried to run GTA from freevo, I got
the error message "Error 296.473 - Cannot find the default display mode". A

save() with 64 bit and 32 bit R
hi,
i have been using a 64 bit desktop machine to process a whole lot of
data which i have then subsequently used save() to store. i am now
wanting to use this data on my laptop machine, which is a 32 bit
install. i suppose that i should not be surprised that the 64 bit data
files do not open on my 32 bit machine! does anyone have a smart idea as
to how these data can be reformatted for 32 bits?

Need help getting nouveau drivers working on Fedora 13
My desktop computer uses a GeForce FX 5200 card and, when I was using
Fedora 11, the kmod-nvidia drivers (a Fedora-specific repackaging of the
binary blob) worked Just Fine. Now, even though I've followed all of
the instructions for them, they don't. In fact, my system won't even
complete booting if they're active. (I'm posting from a laptop, while

Curious Question
Thanks for the help on this mailing list, I now have my personal
home server allowing access without having to actually enter any login
information. All I had to do was set it to anonymous server and use
the 'hosts allow' parameter so that only my home machines can access
it.
However, now I'm curious. This will probably sound like the same
question I just asked on here but, would it

No program start icon
I installed World of Wisdom Birth Chart Interpreter 2 on my wife's laptop without any problems. Then her laptop was stolen so I had to reinstall. The re-installation did not put a start-up icon on her desktop, so she has to navigate to ?Browse C/ Drive? and click on the .exe icon to run it. She is running Ubuntu 7.10. I tried the same program on my Ubuntu 8.04 with the same results. Is

Network configuration question
Hi,
My wife and I live in a two-storey flat, and we have a small home LAN
(100% CentOS 5) with a "classical" configuration:
On the ground floor, there is the telephone jack with the DSL modem
router (192.168.1.254). This modem has a mini-switch with two Ethernet
jacks to it, and the two are used by:
- the server (192.168.1.1), a "black box" running in a cupboard 24/7

32-bit CentOS
It appears that CentOS 7 was the last one with a 32-bit version. I'm
trying to install it on an older laptop and having some trouble. I have
CentOS-7-i386-Everything-1810.iso and have verified it. Using either dd
or mediawriter to put a copy on a 16 GB thumb drive seems to work. But
then the laptop reports, "no boot image found". Note that the first 32 KB
of the iso is all zeros,

Twinview and wine explorer /desktop
The command I run (important bits):-
Code:
wine explorer /desktop=civ4,1280x800 Civ4BeyondSword.exe
My system has twinview running, an external monitor (1280x1024) and my laptop LCD (1280x800). Gnome sees it as one large monitor of 2560x1024, my monitor is on the left, my LCD on the right. Even though I start wine from the laptop monitor, it starts up (with indicated resolution) on the

USB Serial ports (ttyACMn) CentOS 6.7 (64-bit) vs. CentOS 6.7 (64-bit)
I sent this out about a week or so ago, but I have heard nothing. I am
*thinking* it is a SELINUX problem, but I cannot figure out what. The SELINUX
settings for both machines are *exactly* the same (the stock defaults for a
standard CentOS 6 install). The *only* difference is that the desktop
(sauron) has a few VMs setup (under KVM) and the laptop (gollum) does not. The
desktop has an AMD
