Wine apps crash
I am running Ubuntu 10.10 and Wine 1.3. For no reason that I know of a couple of apps that had been running fine wouldn't start. I restarted the wine server, rebooted and nothing worked. The apps are Foxit Reader and Foxit Phantom. Oddly, the Googleearth 6.0 was starting and running fine. I tried Winecfg, moving my .wine directory and creating a new one and nothing worked. I eventually

Crash of latticeExtra graph with Adobe Acro Pro/Reader/Windows/ during print only (display ok).
I created a report with Sweave today, that displayed perfectly on screen, but crashed both Adobe Pro 9.3.1 and Adobe Reader 9.0 on Windows 7. Output with Foxit Reader was flawless. I was able to reproduce a "minimal" example, which is not really minimal but the smallest I could get after 2 hours of wasting paper. Required: latticeExtra calling both panel.xyplot(...) # both

And the pc's affected are not the same each time. this might be the case if what is REALLY going on is that the pc's that are STILL working never lost their connection to SAMBA/iX, so they already(still) have a working

White lines on persp plots in pdf format
Hi, I am using the persp function to plot 3D surfaces, but the plots have "little white lines" when I print them to a pdf file (visible in Acrobat, Foxit, Evince, Xpdf and Gimp). This does not happen when I create png or tiff images. Here is some sample code: pdf("test.pdf") x <- seq(0,1,length=101) f <- dnorm(x, 0, 0.25) z <- c() for(i in 1:100) z <-

Centos 4 & Cisco 350 MiniPCI Wireless
I have an IBM Thinkpad with this beastie in it. The card was immediately recognized and uses the airo driver. No matter what I do, I can't get it to successfully connect to my WAP. Sometimes it sees the access point (as evidenced by an iwlist wifi0 scan seeing the network) and sometimes I can actually get it to connect ( as evidenced by the iwlist command showing the WAP ID).

network. I did read somewhere on the web (several years ago) of a guy who managed to boot windows from the net. With the start of Win 98/ME/ etc.etc it's not posible anymore. I currently use PXE to install machine from the net using bpbatch that works great only bpbatch is not really under developnt and the script language is a bit buggy. I see only one option to boot windows from the net and

debian testing: Problems with R function vignette()
Hola! I am on debian testing, all updates up to date. I am running R via emacs and ess, so I canot know if this is an R or emacs/ess problem. What happens is that I want to read an vignette, and calls something like vignette("mle2", package="bbmle") the pdf file opens (for me in Foxit reader), no problem, but then emacs starts to spew a lot of spam, interfering with the

Dovecot Oy merger with Open-Xchange AG
I find it extremely interesting that no one has commented on the merger of Dovecot Oy and Open-Xchange AG as announced by Timo on the 19th. Is this something that was known a long time ago and I missed? OK checked the on-line archive of the mailing list, no comments there - its not my email set-up - LOL. I am usually emotionally (at least) against of open-source projects loosing their
