Hey Guys,
We have a central server which runs centos, most of the client machines run
on windows.
Does anybody know of a solution whereby we can manage antivirus for all the
clients from the centos server?

ajax in rails is a security violation
Does anybody have any issues with the AJAX code inside rails? Whenever i
use any sites i have built, or even external sites (such as basecamphq) my
internal security device blocks access to the Ajax piece with a 400 Bad
Request ( i scoured the net for other ajax examples and no isses anywhere
else). I think there is something in the AJAX code of rails that is not
implemented correctly. Has

Antivirus for CentOS? (yuck!)
Hi All,
Yes, I know, it's really really embarrassing to have to ask but I'm
being pushed to the wall with PCI DSS Compliance procedure
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_DSS) and have to either justify why
we don't need to install an anti-virus or find an anti-virus to run on
our CentOS 5 servers.
Whatever I do - it needs to be convincing enough to make the PCI
compliance guy tick the

R is a virus, spyware or malware (gasp!)
After a search session in Google, I found this page:
http://www.prevx.com/filenames/X1993788672854780728-0/RGUI.EXE.html
which classifies Rgui.exe (clearly stated as "R for Windows GUI
front-end") in a database of virus, spyware and malware!

antivirus sniffer/scanner for networks
Is anyone aware of a package that can detect viri on the network &
possibly alert when there are?
Here is the scenario: Our network is utilized by guest users all the
time, sometimes into the thousands. We see guests from all over with a
variety of OSs & hardware, all of which, we have no control or say in that
matter.
I am looking for something that I can run in promiscuous mode and/or

trojan at current development version?
Hi,
is it possible, that the current development version for Windows (
http://cran.at.r-project.org/bin/windows/base/R-2.13.0dev-win.exe) is
infected by a trojan/virus. My antivir-program (www.avira.com) seems to find
a trojan in open.exe at bin\i386.
Best regards,
Andreas

Security exploit downloaded with FLAC?
As is my routine every couple of weeks, I ran Pest Patrol anti-spyware
software, and was disturbed to find it came back saying that the file
FLAC/COPYING.FDL was a security exploit known as "Virus Tutorial" or
VTool/jul2. This has left me wondering if FLAC is to be trusted. Here's
what PestPatrol's web site has to say about it:

OT: Possible for Malware against Windows boxes to attack Firefox on Linux?
My belief is that this is not possible, but there are many extremely
knowledgeable people participating on this list and I would like to
know if it is in fact possible. I am running CentOS 5.3 (32 bit) fully
updated. Browser is Mozilla Firefox v.3.0.7.
I believe both times this happened, once yesterday and once today, I
was surfing on the web site of my favorite singer/musical group; or in

WinXP looking for *.dll share names?
Hi folks,
Over the last few weeks, one of our WinXP machines (of many) has
started generating errors like the following in our log files:
Jul 5 09:43:30 blah smbd[13180]: blah-xp (192.168.1.1) couldn't find
service sharename.dll
where "sharename" is a real share name that this user should be
mapping. We see lots of these errors, one for each share
the user tries to map. In

Trojan in setup file
Hello,
I have the following problem:
I successfully installed R (Version 2.1.3.0 for Windows) on my Notebook
(Windows 7) in June. Now I used the same setup file for a PC (Windows XP)
and got a message from the anti virus software (Avira), that the setup file
contains the Trojan "TR/ATRAPS.Gen". The PC is never connected to the
internet, this is why the anti virus software has

This site may harm your computer - Google warning about cran website
This is extremely annoying (and it smells of rat).
As of this time (1013 am ET), Google issues the following nasty warning: "This site may harm your computer"
when I try to visit any of the CRAN package repository sites or CRAN task view.
The funny thing is that Google's Safe Browsing Diagnostic page (it gives diagnostics about any page that
it may contain Malware) does not seem
