NV43: Native resolution not available on Dell 2007FP
I have a Dell 2007FP monitor. NV43 (GeForce 6600) can not use the native
resolution.
1600x1200 is listed under "DDC gathered Modelines" with the rest of the
info, but then is missing from "probed modes".
I have a secondary card, NV4a (GeForce 6200, PCI). It works with this
card. This card does not show "DDC gathered modelines" at all, and
1600x1200 is listed

Scale "up" low resolution programs to fit screen?
Some old apps and games are of pretty low resolution by today's standards, i.e. 640x480.
If I run such a program the text and interface are often very very small because of it.
Therefore, is there a way to have Wine scale up, for example, a 640x480 virtual desktop to fit my high resolution display?
In other words, the program will fill the screen, albeit looking more pixellated.

jpeg and pixels
Dear R People:
When using the jpeg function for plotting,
is there a way to set the size in inches, please?
There is an option for width and height in pixels, but
not inches.
Any suggestions would be welcome!!!!!
R Version 2.2.1 Windows
Thanks in advance!

How do I change the resolution Wine reports to the app?
Now that all configuration has been moved into the registry, how do I
tell Wine to report a different DPI to the application than X reports?
The reason I am asking is that I have several Windows apps that do not
correctly render text boxes - evidently the app is being told that the
size a given piece of text will require is different than the size the
text actually will require - as a result

Use cairo fallback resolution greater than 72dpi in cairo_pdf and cairo_ps in grDevices
Dear all,
In grDevices R functions cairo_pdf and cairo_ps it is mentioned that when transparency (alpha channels) are used in vector output, it will rasterize the PDF or postscript exported graph at a resolution of 72 dpi : https://stat.ethz.ch/R-manual/R-devel/library/grDevices/html/cairo.html
You can see the problem if you try

resolution issues
just added to the WIKI:
* Ideas with some concensus
after discussion on IRC, it was provisionally agreed (by those present at the time) that Theora should support arbitrary pixel sizes (presently it is limited to multiples of 16 both horizontally and vertically).
It is felt that this can be achieved with minimal pain by adding four values to the page header, immediately following the present

PNG resolution
Hi,
I expect that if I change only the resolution of an image, although the
image would have more pixels, if viewed in the same physical size, the
elements in the image would have the same physical size but with more
detail. However, when I use the "res" parameter of png() this is not
what I see. Would someone show me how I can just "increase the
resolution" without

Determining the resolution of a screen device
Dear all,
I am trying to find a way to reliably and programmatically establish the
resolution (i.e. DPI or equivalent) of an on-screen device. It seemed to me
that
dev.new(width=1, height=1)
dpi <- dev.size("px")
would do the trick, but the result does not seem to be correct, at least on
OS X 10.9.1 using the "quartz" device. Specifically, the window that
appears is 1

Saving plot to tiff, with high resolution for publication ?
Hello all.
A Journal we are sending an article to is asking for the following:
To ensure the best reproduction quality of your figures we would appreciate
high resolution files. All figures should preferably be in TIFF or EPS
format... and should have the following resolution: Graph: 800 - 1200 DPI
Photo: 400 - 800 DPI
Color (only CMYK): 300 - 400 DPI (DPI = dots per inch)
Since I am sending

Tropico 3 Demo Graphics Problem - People are not visible
Hi!
I am trying to run the Tropico 3 Demo on Wine 1.3.18. Everything is displaying fine (buildings, trees, etc.), except the people.
The city looks like a ghost city, doors opening and closing but nobody is there.
Can somebody help me what can be wrong? I tried different graphics options in the game, and different Direct 3d settings in the registry, but nothing seems to be working.
I have a dll

graphics - line resolution/pixelation going from R to windows metafile
I have a recurring graphics issue that I've not been able to resolve with
R. If I make a series of regression estimates and then plot the estimated
function for the regression lines over a scatter plot of the data, e.g.,
using a sequence of plot( ) and lines ( ) similar to those below

Ignoring DDC settings on Xorg
I am trying to set up a new 1400x900 widescreen monitor, but I just
cannot get it to work correctly. The closest I get is 1400x900, which
causes lots of vertical blur bands.
I have tried with two different machines with i945 and ATi cards,
running CentOS 4 and Ubuntu, always with the same result.
My investigations indicate that the monitor reports itself to be
"1440x900". It also

Poor quality plotting symbols in Windows metafile
Hello,
when I try to use the filled circle (pch = 16) in a Windows metafile, it appears highly pixelated rather than as a smooth vector.
The other filled circles (pch = 19 and 20) are vector circles, filled with pixels.
Results are the same whether I use windows() and save or copy as a metafile, or win.metafile()
Also, some of the other symbols are misshapen, e.g. the diamond pch = 23 is not

Strange behavior of savePlot
Hi all,
I am using savePlot in a loop for saving several graph but I get some
graph in 553x552, some other in 1920x1119. How comes ?
My data are almost all the same (same label, same xlim / ylim, almost
same data. Only the color changes). I save them in bmp.
Thanks for your help.
