performing binary upgrade centos 4 to 5
Hello,
I'm trying to take a box from 4.4 to 5.0 and doing it via binary yum
upgrade. I'm following the procedure at:
http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-announce/2007-April/013660.html
for taking a 4.x box to 5. I've removed any unneeded rpms, and confirmed the
state of the system. I downloaded and installed centos-notes-5 and ran an
rpm -Uvh centos-release-5 which

performing function on data frame
Hi!
First, pardon me if this is a faq. I think I should be using some sort
of apply, but I am not managing to figure those out.
I have a data frame similar to this:

Scaling variables to positive values using scale() or performing BoxCox on negative data
Hi,
I'm doing some work with linear models, and I've scaled my data using the
scale(dataset) function. This was great at removing the skew, but I now
can't perform the Box Cox transformation on the data set (using the
boxcox(dataset) function), as the scaling has returned negative values.
So my question is: how can I get the scale function to return a positive set
of data (so I can

Performing negative binomial regression on data, using stepwise selection
hello all,
I've been trying for some time to try and model a big dataset using
generalized linear models, or more precisely negative binomial regression.
Unfortunately i have too many explanatory variables and i'd like to cut
some of them off using a stepwise selection method.
i've been struggeling with the code for quite a long period and can't find
a way to do this....any ideas?

Performing cross-bridge DNAT requires IP forwarding to be enabled
Okay, that is the error I get. I googled around, but no one seems to have my
exact problem (and their solutions do not work for me.)
I have a stock Debian 4.0 setup, apt-get Xen 3.0, etc ...
Now, I setup a Dom1, and I run a webserver on Dom1 on port 80.
In Xen, my networking is (network-script network-nat) (vlf-script vlf-nat)
I setup iptables to -p tcp --dport 80 -d Dom0''s_ip_address

NUT Client shuts down when performing runtime calibration on APC UPS
Thanks for your reply.
Sorry for the delay, but until yet I haven't had a subscription, so I haven't seen your answer.
I can test this, I have three APC USVs, each equipped with the AP9630 network card.
I need to setup a Linux test VM with NUT first. I will give the feedback as soon as I can.

NUT Client shuts down when performing runtime calibration on APC UPS
Thanks for your help. I have posted information, but I think I have answered myself, so maybe you haven't got an info. Sorry, using a mailing list is new for me ;-)
Let's forget about the QNAP problem. It seems that although upsc is getting correct status information ("OL", "OB", "OB LB", OB CAL"), including calibration state, the QNAP special program

I would strongly recommend specifying which script interpreter is to be
used: dash, bash, csh, ksh, ... For example
#!/bin/bash
There seem to be too many case statements in this script.

After performing a reboot in VM (Virtualbox), log user on gnome not display the desktop.
After performing a reboot in VM (Virtualbox) which had been stopped, the
User logs in but does not display the desktop leaving only the background
image.
The services are all active, can access and use the VM via ssh, but the
Desktop died.
I do not know where to begin to solve this problem.
Any idea?
Thanks

Maybe you could try a network install and only use the USB DVD to boot. I
remember similar issues

Performing an action on mail receipt
Dear all,
I would like to perform an action for certain users each time a mail
arrives via LMTP. I would like to send an email notification to an
external email address when new mail has arrived for certain users
(note: not a forward).
I am assuming that creating my own plugin using the existing "notify"
plugin is the way to go. However, before I go down that route, I'd like

Missing hits when performing full-text searches
Hi,
we're running Dovecot 2.1.7 together with Solr for efficient fulltext search.
A couple of days ago we reinstalled our Solr server on a new machine. After
adjusting our Dovecot setup to use the new server, it took a few days to
notice that something seems fishy about our full-text search: expected hits
wouldn't be shown among the search results.
For instance, one of the folders (a

Performing Merge and Duplicated on very large files
Hi,
I am working with very large matrices (>1 million records), and need to
1. Join the files (can be achieved with Merge)
2. Find lines that have the same value in some field (after the join) and
randomly sample 1 row.
I am concerned with the complexity of merge - how (un)efficient is it? I
don't have access to the real data, I need to send the script to someone who
does, so I
