Running Perfect World through Wine using Winebottler
I am trying to install the game "Perfect World" (http://pwi.perfectworld.com/download) On my Mac using Wine. After going through the obnoxious process of installing wine (for me this took forever because I am hugely computer illiterate, but through this process I learned to find info in forums AND use the terminal! Go me!), PW did not work. It installed fine, it would even launch but

Dual boot with 2 drives
Hi, I have a laptop with 2 hard drives. The first has Fedora 20 (no windows or anything else) and the second is unused. I would like to install CentOS7 on the unused drive so I can dual boot with the choice of the 2 OS's on the Grub menu. I am comfortable in partitioning drives and installing Linux distributions. I am afraid I may mess up the MBR and/or set up Grub incorrectly so I

Forsaken World Crashing
A new mmo called Forsaken World (http://fw.perfectworld.com/) just entered closed beta. The client is crashing in Wine. It's crashing instantly, before any window appears. The patcher is fine. I know it's working in Windows for other people. Is this crash a bug in Wine or something else? Wine 1.3.5 PCLinuxOS Full Monty (up-to-date) GeForce 7600 - 256.53 Forsaken World Download Link

rsync command for multi files and dirs from remote server
Hi there, okay so I have a port knocker installed on my remote server so I am trying to bundle a bunch of directories in a single ssh session that rsync establishes. so far all the rsync examples I have seen require a new ssh session for each directory. is there anyway to get something like this into one line and therefore one ssh session. Clues on this? --- snip --- /usr/bin/rsync -avrz

SMP kernel on Pent 4?
Had a Pent 4 server running fc3 crash (kernel panic) and am rebuilding from scratch. I installed FreePBX (CentOs) from scratch and asterisk was running, but had not yet been configured. It too crashed with a kernel panic. Ran memtest for 24 hours; no errors or issues uncovered. I then noticed that FreePBX installed using a SMP kernel (and grub indicated a non-SMP kernel was installed as

smb-ldap or not to smb-ldap
Hi all, We are deploying a Linux server and desktops for a customer. We will have the users and groups in LDAP on the server, and files shared via NFS. However, one never knows if Windows desktops will be needed in the future. Is it a good idea to add users with smb-ldap even if samba is not initially used, as adding the samba attributes to an existing LDAP database is painful, and the

How protect bash history file, do audit alike in server
hello, I want to protect the history file from deleted for all users except user 'root' can do it, is that possible? For my server, many users can log in with root from remote through ssh, so I can not trace which guy do wrong things. So I decide to create new account for every users and let them use 'sudo' then I can trace which guy typed which command and what he

Centos 6 - Persistant static routes
I know how to use 'ip' to set up a static route, e.g.: ip route add 192.168.128.0/17 via 40.53.24.3 dev eth0 But if you reboot or restart network, you loose this. Thus you have to make it persistant. I found: http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/configuring-static-routes-in-debian-or-red-hat-linux-systems.html where it says to add to ifcfg-eth0: 192.168.128.0/17 via 40.53.24.3 But this

Vote for CentOS - AGAIN :)
The preliminary round voting is completed in the "2005 Readers' Choice Awards" at Linux Journal. CentOS was nominated in the "distribution:" category along with 18 other Linux distros ... and we finished in the top 3 (along with Ubuntu and FedoraCore). Thanks to every one who voted for CentOS. I really did not expect that we would be on the final ballot, though I am

Are these instructions meant to be executed on CentOS 1804?
Good afternoon from Singapore, I came across this Linux Journal article titled "DIY: Build a Custom Minimal Linux Distribution from Source", written by Petros Koutoupis. S.M.A.R.T
At my physics lab we have 30 servers with 1TB disk packs. I am in need of monitoring for disk failures. I have been reading about SMART and it seems it can help. However, I am not sure what to look for if a drive is about to fail. Any thoughts about this? Is anyone using this method to predetermine disk failures? TIA

VCPU affinity
What is the best way to pin VCPUs. It looks like the implementation of affinity currently is at best only "soft". Regards, K. Y _______________________________________________ Xen-devel mailing list Xen-devel@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-devel

Domain vCPU threads affinity
Hello, According to the docs, vcpupin will use either cgroups or sched_setaffinity to pin vcpu threads to cpus. How is this decision made? I observe differences even on different hosts featuring the same version of libvirtd (1.3.1): on one host vcpupin affects cpuset.cpus (cgroup), and on the other it affects vcpu threads affinity (observed through taskset). Thanks, Nikos -------------- next
