That seems to be my experience too. I only have a few applications running under Wine and just two of those need MIDI playback for which I use fluidsynth. On upgrading to Ubuntu

No sound
I am currently using a gentoo, (so no pulseaudio installed) and I can't get any sound with wine. I 'm trying to use alsa because winecfg deleted the entry of oss. My wine version is 1.3.24 The sound worked one time but doesn't still work...I uninstalled wine, deleted the .wine directory and re-installed but it didn't fix the problem. These are details about my soundcard : >

That age old Midi issue again
I can run most midi apps in wine through timidity with no problem but there are quite a few apps which don't allow you to assign the midi output to timidity such as Media Player Classic or WM player 6. They try to use the windows default which is of course MS synth or Emu10k1. There must be a way of mapping the midi output in wine from such apps to timidity but I just can't get it to

No MIDI devices in wine
I'd want to run the windows editor for my guitar preamp (VOX Tonelab SE) which is connected to the MIDI in and out sockets of my soundcard. The program installs and starts without any problems under wine but it can't find any MIDI ports. MIDI works fine otherwise in Linux - I can read from and write to the sockets with arecordmidi and aplaymidi, but there are no MIDI devices visible

Video capture on CentOS (6)
Hello, I need to do some analog video capture and I was wondering what is the status of this in CentOS 6. The last information I could find was here (obviously for CentOS 5): http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2009-September/082521.html Could anybody recommend a not-too-expensive video capture cards (PCI, USB, fireWire, ...) which would be well supported (drivers easily available in base,

24/96 ?
Hi people, looking around for a new audiocard, my eye fell on the M-audio audiophile 2496. It has 4 digital in/out and is 24bit, 96kHz. The sound quality is very good, if I can believe the reviews. <p>My question is: can vorbis do 24bit, 96kHz ? -- --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list,

systemctl (again)
It might be SELinux. On a standard system; when we run things as a user from the command line SELinux rules do not apply. It would explain why it works manually but not via systemd. Rather than using an init.d script you might want to try using a systemd service. I haven't tested but something like this should work. [Unit] Description=timidity daemon [Service] PIDFile=/var/run/timidity.pid

Wine 1.1.28 on Mandriva - PulseAudio? - Only get OSS option
Is there any way I can get PulseAudio working with Wine 1.1.28? I just compiled (first install on this OS) of Wine from the website, and I only had the choice of OSS as my driver. Surprisingly this made a test sound, but as I thought it does not work at the same time as Pulse. So how can I get Pulse, ESound, ALSA support for a compiled version of Wine on Mandriva 2009.1?

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Thanks Andrew. One more problem solved, as I discovered last thing yesterday there was a missing "[Install]". Using your copy of the httpd service I cut-and-pasted it onto the end of the service file you'd given me earlier and at last was able to load the service. It wouldn't run, but at least it was some progress. I ran

TmMidity
In trying to get NoteWorthy Composer working on my box (Mandrake 10.0, Gnome 2.4) I found a webboard for NWC under Linux (on wine). Following advice, I downloaded and compiled TiMidity. Unfortunately, when I try to follow the instructions given on the board, I get the following result [andrew@localhost rosegarden-4-1.0]$ su Password: [root@localhost rosegarden-4-1.0]# modprobe

Noteworthy Composer crashes when print preview is called.
I have just installed Noteworthy Composer v2.0 It seems to work fine except when I try to call the print preview. The print preview shows up briefly and then Noteworthy shuts itself down. This is almost my first attempt to install anything using Wine. Not quite my first as I installed the Noteworthy Viewer as a trial and that worked once I had sorted out how to get MIDI working. Print preview

[SUGGESTION] WINE, autodisable/ask to disable PulseAudio
Since PulseAudio causes much trouble alot, why not make WINE to either 1) autodisable 2) ask to disablePulseAudio when running something ? By my understanding if this would be implemented, either of the following is done: 1) When executing wine theprogramname.exe it first calls to WINE, which then query the system for PA. Then if PA is found, WINE adds padsp to the commandline and continues

Thats wierd. I've never had any problem with systemctl or systemd like that. Do you have your service file in the right place with the right permissions. here is the httpd service file as a reference. [centos at ipa ~]$ ls /usr/lib/systemd/system/httpd.service -l -rw-r--r--. 1 root root 694 Mar 12 14:57 /usr/lib/systemd/system/httpd.service [centos at ipa ~]$ cat
