Graphic parameters with length zero in grid cause R to crash
Hi, I found in grid package, if the graphic parameters have zero length, R crashes. In the following code, I only tested `grid.rect()` and the `fill` parameter, but I think it should be similar as other grid graphic functions. In `gpar()` function, the graphic parameters are not allowed to have zero length, but we can make them with zero length by first generating a `gpar` object and then

R 1.2.3 for MacOS/X available
From release 1.2.3, R can run different Macintosh platforms. Two versions are currently available that are non concurrent. One version runs on MacOS Systems from 8.6 to 9.1 and MacOSX using the standard MacOS/MacOSX interface, that means that is behaves like any usual Macintosh application. (This is mantained by Stefano M. Iacus) The other version is a Darwin/X11 that means a Unix-like

Wiping USB drives
Hi, I have a dozen of drives, ranging from 10Gb to 200Gb. I want to wipe them clean before donating them. I have a IDE/SATA to USB converter that works. I can see the drives properly. DBAN does not currently support external USB drive. Any other alternatives? -- Thanks http://www.911networks.com When the network has to work

R-2.4.0 is released
I've rolled up R-2.4.0.tar.gz a short while ago. This version contains several changes and additions, mostly incremental, but some larger changes to S4 methods have been added, as well as namespace sealing. See the full list of changes below. You can get it (in a short while) from http://cran.r-project.org/src/base/R-2/R-2.4.0.tar.gz or wait for it to be mirrored at a CRAN site nearer to

FIX for smbtar zero length files... (Cont :)
(Erm, sorry about that...) I was talking about errors of the type: Got 0 bytes. The problem was sporatic, and seemed to be load/speed based. That is, the faster the Linux box, the more errors we had. A look through clitar.c led me to a solution. Currently, clitar.c is written to pad a file with zeros if a file read error occurs. This is normal. All of our errors were of the 0 byte length

ROBUSTNESS: x || y and x && y to give warning/error if length(x) != 1 or length(y) != 1
I have to disagree, I think one of the advantages of '||' (or &&) is the lazy evaluation, i.e. you can use the first condition to "not care" about the second (and stop errors from being thrown). So if I want to check if x is a length-one numeric with value a value between 0 and 1, I can do 'class(x)=='numeric' && length(x)==1 && x>0

Automount of USB drives
Hi, I am using 5.1, Until yesterday morning when we had a power cut for 9 hours [no proper UPS], the automount of USB drives worked properly. Now when I connect any USB drive [hard drives & USB sticks], they show up in dmesg, and they are being properly recognized, but I have to mount them by hand. Any suggestion? -- Thanks http://www.911networks.com When the network has to work

Is it possible to configure the automounting of USB drives to mount read-only? Is there some gconf/udev/udisks/hal/whatever setting to alter the default mount options when USB disks are plugged in by users? Thanks James Pearson
