Wine language problems
Dear Wine Team,
I believe that I got the correct e-mail adress, however, if I don't,
please redirect me. Anyway, I have a problem with wine that I'm
wondering if there is a fix to. everytime I try to run a program
under it, it comes up with a funny language, kind of like a Arabic
font. I'm not sure how to correct this. This happens even when I try
to open the control panel for

I need a Freelance Coder...
For what's it's worth, I do something similar to this with Andrew Taylor's
libshout-java. The Web server manages a playlist, letting users add/remove
tracks from the playlist. This playlist is consumed by a "streamer" process
that accesses the audio data and pushes it to the Icecast server.

Crash on reload only with autoload=no
Hi,
I've been having a little problem with my asterisk servers, I have 4
identical asterisk servers setup (same hardware, same OS, same config). Once
in a while (once or twice a day) one of the server crashes on the cron job
reload. But I realized this only happens on 3 of the 4 servers. Tried to
spot the difference between that one server that wasn't crashing. The
difference I found was

Huh, why not just use ices with a perl song choser module ? This
eliminates the need to develop the libshout based streamer (use ices
instead) and give ices the title from your module, ices will take care of
the rest. Or I am wrong ? :)

Use a different character set for a specific program on wine
There is a feature in Windows where you tell it (in Regional and Language Settings in XP, e.g.) to use a specific encoding for non-Unicode programs.
That's my issue. I am storing Arabic using cp1256/windows-1256 in a remote database. This is not Unicode; Arabic characters are stored in the 128-255 range of extended ASCII. The program (an electronic health records program) will display garbage

wine-users Digest, Vol 41, Issue 117
Hi David,
I have a copy of Windows that I bought a year or two ago, but never really
used it, as I preferred to use Linux.
Got it just in case I needed the license, I guess now I can put it to use.
Me paying for the Windows copy should include the fonts, right?
It's working now, and showing the fonts. Thanks a lot :-D
Now all that I have left is to get the characters to attach, and I

Psycho Acoustic models i Speech Coding
(This is almost out of topic but anyway...)
It is surprising how little research effort have been put into psy-acou
models for CELP. The basic problem lies in that it is not easy to alter
the LP model without distroying the minimum-phase property (ie. the
stability of the predictor). That leaves us with psy-acou modelling of
the noise-part only. However, my own research is in constrained

This is (sort of) done in the decoder with the optional perceptual
filtering. Speex tries to shape the noise so that it sounds more
pleasant, I believe.
To really use perceptual coding, one would require fine granular
control over quantization

No Sound and Jungle:
Hi everyone,
I am running asterisk on red hat linux 9 box. The sound card is Intel
82801db AC' 97 audio and the module is i810_audio. It runs well with other
applications like xmms and the standard tests deliver a sound . I have also
tried to record voice and that works well too.
1-)Now when i run asterisk and i dial out an extension to play any sound
there is none. The same thing

Problems running programs compiled unter Centos 5 on Centos 4 machines
I know this is quite a handwaving, stupid question, but I don't know
where else to ask it and maybe somebody here can at least point me
into the right direction, because I'm stuck.
I have a program package that were using here (OpenFOAM for those who
know it). My problem is that when I compile and link this package on
CentOS 5, it won't run on CentOS 4.x-machines but stops with a

Icecast 2 for Live365 MP3 Relaying
this is probably caused by the lack of buffering in icecast2. Their relay
client may be doing some buffering in itself, and if it's expecting for
there to be buffering on the server side as well, it might exhibit a
behavior you are seeing....(that also is a difference between iceast1 and
icecast2 - no server-side buffering in icecast2 and there was in icecast1)...
fwiw, I am trying to

Hi,
Does anyone have an idea about the possibility to apply psychoacoustic
models as the ones in mp3 or AAC to a CELP coder? Thanks!

success compiling and running under IRIX
hello guys
first i would like to say that I'm very happy that there is true open source
lossless audio compression software available from you guys. i'm
contemplating archiving my cd collection and i would never even consider
encoding important stuff with proprietary code. i might just as well throw my
music away! flac's goals and features coincide with mine as a user, and it

Icecast 2 for Live365 MP3 Relaying
Hi All,
I attempted to switch my MP3 server from Icecast 1 to Icecast 2 today. I
run a Live365 station, Big Planet Radio, which simply relays my local
Icecast server.
My Icecast 2 error.log file shows a lot of the following messages when the
Live365 server, Nanocaster 2.5.6, is connected to it:
[2003-05-14 22:09:15] DBUG format-mp3/format_mp3_write_buf_to_client Client
