MSI causing softpanics in guest
lspci shows MSI enabled for PCI device. PCI passthrough works fine. However, as soon as the MSI driver for card is insmodded, kernel panics. This is on xen-unstable. Tried the same with xen-3.3.0 which is supposed to have MSI passthrough, but the same guest shows MSI as disabled. Any else seen this bug, or know of a workaround ? Trace is as follows : ------------[ cut here ]------------

Wine 1.2-rc?, nVidia, and WoW 3.3.5 Problems
Forwarding to list. One of my concerns is that we don't direct users to scan the forum entries before they post. This is just one example of 'me too' messages in a series. And the maddening thing is that folks like Jim below, don't have the problem. Several 'fixes' have been posted to work around what originally appears to be brokenness in Wine, starting about 1.1.44,

retrieve machine password in current Samba?
We have a wireless network that uses 802.1x authentication, in which domain joined computers use their machine credentials to connect. Windows machines do this automatically, and until recently Linux computers could join using wicd, wpa-supplicant, and a simple script that would retrieve the machine password with tdbdump. ( specifically tdbdump -k SECRETS/MACHINE_PASSWORD/DOMAIN

syslogd(8) Dropping Privs
I made a quick change to syslogd(8) so that it can drop root privileges immediately after starting up. It opens up the log sockets (UNIX and network domains) and writes the PID files before dropping privs. It drops privs before openning log files and writing to users. Therefore, you would need to modify your log file permissions appropriately. As for writing to users, ttys generally are writeable

Semi-OT: hardware: NVidia proprietary driver, C7.4
Hi, folks, Well, still more fun (for values of fun approaching zero): 1. Went to install CUDA 9.0... well, gee, there is *no* CUDA 9.0. Even though I installed the 9 repo, all that I get is 8. I've used their webform, and an waiting on a reply. 2. I remove all nvidia packages. 3. It appears that the kmod-nvidia is what I need; that's what nvidia-detect

Is samba or a kernel bug causing my FC4 server to crash?
I've got a fully updated Fedora Core 4 server crashing hard every week or two. I use Samba via smbmount and autofs to read & delete log files on 17 XP boxs and 6 NT4SP6 boxes as well as a couple other Windows files servers every 5 minutes. The first indication of a problem I get is smbmount stops working, then the server becomes unresponsive to the point where only a power slam will fix

acpid events failing after first suspend
Hello I've configured acpid on my laptop to make the powerbutton hibernate the laptop. I modified /etc/acpid/events/power.conf with the following content: event=PWRF action=/usr/bin/pm-hibernate On the first boot it works like it should, but after the laptop has resumed, the powerbutton doesn't respond anymore. This is an extract from /var/log/acpid when the powerbutton responds:

Serial Ports and syslogd
Hello, It's a bit off topic, but I'm hoping someone has seen this before. I'm running a couple of headless boxes, one is 4.7 release, the other is 4.8 release. Both have the same issue with newsyslog when I've got the serial port enabled for console management. (-h in boot.conf and a getty running on cuaa0 after the boot process) Logrotate tries to send an HUP to syslogd, but

Xen C6 kernel 4.9.13 and testing 4.9.15 only reboots.
Sad to say that I already tested 4.9.20-26 from your repo yesterday...it does look a little cleaner before it dies, but still dies. I have not tested it with the vcpu=4 wokaround, but I can tonight if you would like. Relevant bits below: Loading Xen 4.6.3-12.el7 ... Loading Linux 4.9.20-26.el7.x86_64 ...
