While I've never tried it, it's my understanding that you can use calibre to remove the drm encryption on a purchased ebook so you can read it with

.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 problem
Hi all,
First, I would like to say, that I am a beginner to Wine and I hope I did not brake any rule.
To problem:
I have Ubuntu 10.10 64bit (on dualboot with Windows 7) and Wine 1.3.26 and I would like to play Bloodline Champions on Ubuntu (the only game I play). I have been trying to install .NET Framework for 3 days.
- I installed successfully Framework version 2.0 (dotnet20) with Winetricks

Display of Photomatix GUI Has No Buttons, Checkmarks
I would like to use Photomatix Pro 3.1.3 on my WINE install. I was able to successfully install it after installing corefonts and .NET 2.0 using winetricks. The program opens fine but none of the buttons, checkmarks, or other window dressings appear:

SWAT works with Webmin but not via localhost:901
I have tried everything that I know of.
I have reviewed the services file and the swat file in xinetd.d a tun of times. It appears, via netstat that swat is listening on port 901.
However when I attempt to access it via the Mozilla browser on my Fedora server (with 127.0.0.1:901 or localhost:901) nothing happens. It just sits there.
However, if I access it via webmin (which has swat stored

amd64 issue with flac-1.1.3 beta2
Hi Josh,
I got a new computer yesterday, a 64bit intel core 2 duo. I am running
the amd64 port of Ubuntu 6.10 (edgy). I compiled flac-1.1.3 beta and had
trouble encoding:

iid.test package/ncdf package
Hi R,
I want to conduct iid tests. So, I went to download 'iid.test' package.
And the dependent package is 'ncdf', which is not available. So, how do
I conduct the IID tests? Can I do these iid tests in Base R?
Thanks in advance,
Shubha

Cossacks (All Versions)
I've been watching the appdb, and have been upgrading to each new
version of wine ... I've tried running Cossacks through VNC (to get 8
bit colour), and I've tried changing video cards (twice)... all to no
avail ...
The two Bugs listed for Cossacks are still shown as unconfirmed ...
As long as you rename the Video directory, it loads up fine - sound
works great, input works

lme parameterization question
Hi,
I am trying to parameterize the following mixed model (following Piepho
and Ogutu 2002), to test for a trend over time, using multiple sites:
y[ij]=mu+b[j]+a[i]+w[j]*(beta +t[i])+c[ij]
where:
y[ij]= a response variable at site i and year j
mu = fixed intercept
Beta=fixed slope
w[j]=constant representing the jth year (covariate)
b[j]=random effect of jth year, iid N(0,sigma2[b])
a[i]=random

more or less pager
R-users,
(forgive my return adres)
I've been breaking my head why R---which i find fabulous, by the
way---does not pipe interactive output through a pager (more or less),
like it does with help(), or like GNU Octave does with arrays with more
than terminal height rows.
Maybe it is my installation (Debian/GNU Linux). Maybe it is my
configuration, but i don't think so because with

substitute, eval, quote and functions
Hi,
i am working with large data frames with many dependend variables. I
want to write some functions that will allow me to quickly select
variables from the frame and plot them in various colors depending on
factor columns, possibly selecting rows according to factor conditions.
In order to do this in a nice function, i need to understand how to work
with a column name in the body of a

Using quasibinomial family in lmer
Dear R-Users,
I can't understand the behaviour of quasibinomial in lmer. It doesn't
appear to be calculating a scaling parameter, and looks to be reducing the
standard errors of fixed effects estimates when overdispersion is present
(and when it is not present also)! A simple demo of what I'm seeing is
given below. Comments appreciated?
Thanks,

lme convergence error
Hello, I am working from a linux 64 machine on a server with R-2.12 (I can't
update to 2.13). I am iterating through many linear mixed models for
longitudinal data and I occasionally receive the following convergence
error:

random =~ 1 + time | IID, data = d)

How to fit bivaraite longitudinal mixed model ?
Hi
Is there any way to fit a bivaraite longitudinal mixed model using R. I have
a data set with col names
resp1 (Y_ij1), resp2 (Y_ij2), timepts (t_ij), unit(i)
j=1,2,..,m and i=1,2,..n.
I want to fit the following two models
Model 1
Y_ij1, Y_ij2 | U_i = u_i ~ N(alpha + u_i + beta1*t_ij, Sigma)
U_i ~ iid N(0, sigu^2)
Sigma = bivariate AR structure
alpha and beta are vectors of order 2.
