Related to the new laptop question: CentOS on a netbook?
I've got a netbook, circe 2009. When I got it, not that I was wild about
ubuntu, but there was specifically an ubuntu netbook remix. Well, it's a
few years later - has anyone put CentOS (6, preferably) on a netbook, and
were there any problems?

C6 or C7 for an old netbook
I've got an old HP Netbook, which is just fine for taking with when I'm
travelling, to check email and news. I have a very old Ubuntu
netbook-remix on it, and it really, *really* needs to be updated to
something current. I, of course, would prefer CentOS....
The question is: I see that *if* the specs I just looked up (I'm at work,
not home, where I could just turn it on, but they

CentOS 6 for ARM?
Hi, folks,
So, I want to rebuild my "ancient" HP netbook, from the ancient ubuntu
netbook remix. Is there an *ARM* .iso, or net install somewhere? I'm not
finding it, googling. Lots of Raspberry Pi, but....

[OT] What file can I use to change Ubuntu 9.10 display characteristics?
This question is vaguely related to R in that I have managed to wedge
the netbook computer that I use for demonstrations of R and I would
like to know how to un-wedge it so I can continue to give lectures
about R.
I have an ASUS eee PC running the netbook-remix version of Ubuntu
9.10. The X server in 9.10 is a little different from earlier
versions in that it does not require an explicit

BCM4313 on CentOS 6.3
Hi all,
I'm a complete newbie in Linux and am trying to get my Broadcom BCM4313
working in my Lenovo S10-3t netbook (CentOS 6.3 installed from LiveCD).
I followed the steps in the wiki, which lead me to ELRepo: wl-kmod. I
followed the instructions there until Step 2:
$ mkdir -p ~/rpmbuild/{BUILD,RPMS,SPECS,SOURCES,SRPMS}
$ echo -e "%_topdir $(echo $HOME)/rpmbuild\n%dist .el$(lsb_release

R CMD INSTALL cannot find libf77blas
I feel like Marlon Brando in "On the Waterfront" where he's told "It's
not your night, kid", except for me it has been the last two months
trying to debug memory problems. Now I can't even install an old
version of this package on a netbook running the Ubuntu 10.10 netbook
remix because it can't find the libraries libf77blas and libatlas.
I have even gone to

modestly priced laptop for C7
I'm looking to replace my (old, creaky) netbook (Acer Aspire One D255e,
a screaming dual core 1.6 GHz Atom, and a whole 2 gigs of RAM) with
something faster but not too large. Sometimes (usually) the netbook is
painfully slow.
Something like a hi-res 14 (or 15) inch screen (full HD), minimum of 4 gigs
RAM, HD of a half terabyte or bigger.
I'd like to not have to go over 600-700 dollars,

upgrading 7.5 ==> 7.6
hI ALL!
There have been a large enough number of people posting here about difficulties when upgrading from 7. to 7.6 that I'm being somewhat paranoid about it.
I have several machines to upgrade, but so far the only one I've dared
to work on (least critical if it goes bad) is my new-to-me-but-used
laptop.
First I did a 'dd' backup of the whole drive onto an external USB drive

HP laptops with CentOS 7?
Hello all,
I'm looking into getting HP laptops for our department running CentOS 7.
Last time I checked this was some five or so years ago, and when I look at
https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops, nothing much seems to have happened
since.
At that time, I had to give up CentOS on laptops, as both Wi-Fi and graphics
wasn't too well supported with CentOS 5 and 6.
Is the situation better

5.3 on an EeePC??
I have an ASUS EeePC 701 (with 2GB of RAM and an 8 GB card), on
which I've installed CentOS on the hard-drive-plus-card. But it can't
even use my eth0.
Some one on a local LUG, where I had mentioned that other OSs did fine
with all the same exact hardware, suggested that CentOS, being designed
for stability rather than the bleeding edge, likely lacks drivers; so I
need to get

Installing Final Fantasy XI on Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Remix
Hello Wine Forum Members,
This is my first post and I am looking forward to many more. My first initial question is: Is it possible to run FFXI on Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Remix? I've seen some earlier posts about running FFXI on 10.04, but I haven't found anything where someone would be trying on something much smaller. I am new with ubuntu and Wine. So if this is possible is there some kind
