Singularity game has slow video
I am posting this here because the other posters in AppDB say the game works fine. For me, the video is slow and jerky, not playable at all. System: Dell XPS630 q9550 dual core-2, 8gm RAM, 2x NVIDIA 9800GT, lots of disk space (meets all system requirements) kUbuntu-10.04, all current updates, nvidia 195.36.24 driver. Have tried kde, gnome, and lxde desktops (compositing disabled), same problem in

Scriptaculous blind animation jerky when DIV contains a lot of content
Hi I have set up the following example to illustrates the problem I am having with scriptaculous. http://www.webmaint.com/scriptaculous_demo.html You will notice the animation is very jerky and looks awful in Firefox, and it just about passable in Internet Explorer I presume this is because of the way the browser renders the data in the select boxes. Is there any work around that could create a

Can't install Doom3
I am trying to install the Doom3 game, and the install is failing. I believe it failed when it tried to switch CDs; it never asked for the second cd, just went straight to the closing dialogs. Now, it's so messed up I can't even uninstall it. When running the uninstall option from the wine menu, it quits and does nothing. When I phymanually removed the files and tried installing again, it

Playing Games with Wine while listening to music
I have this problem: When playing a PC game via wine while listening to music with let's say Amarok, there's no sound in the PC game anymore. It's like the sound channel is occupied by the music player so wine cannot playback any soundfiles. Sounds are working if I play a Linux game like Nexuiz while running some music via a music player (ok, completely different, I know, but

data editor in R- could it be improved?
Hi all, I've used R for basic programming and data management for a few years now. One of the things that I think could be improved is the data editor. Its a great feature and I use it alot by calling edit(data.frame); very useful to see if what you tried to do actually worked. However, one of the annoying things about it is that when you scroll down the window it doesnt show you all the

RELENG_7 jerky mouse and skipping sound
I just updated to RELENG_7 from 6.2 and I'm running into some really annoying issues with jerky mouse movement and skipping sound. This seems to be similar to: Re: SCHED_4BSD in RELENG_7 disturbs workflow This happens both with 4BSD and ULE. I seems to happen when I'm compiling ports and a new cc/bzip2/sh process fires off (I'm just watching top), I'll get the skip/freezeup.

Wobbly jerkyness
About a month ago, David made a commit to wobbly to the spring engine which has introduced some bugs. They are hard to explain so bear with me. In a sense, the wobbly plugin does not seem as smooth as it used to be and the windows jerk all over the place. For example, I sometimes notice that when I move a large window (around 2/3 of the size of the desktop window), If I moved it down, the top of

Wolfenstein regression with Wine 1.3
Hi, I have been running Wolfenstein succesfully on my 64-bit Linux system (both on Mandriva and Archlinux) using Wine 1.2 in 32-bit version. However, Wine has been upgraded to 1.3.0 version on both systems, and I cannot run it anymore. I get a dialog when I try to run it saying: "You're not authorized to run this game!". I use a patched Wolf2.exe that was working properly with wine

Conflicts between kde and wine games - workaround
I'm posting this message because I discovered that there appear to be serious video conflicts between some games running in wine, and the kde desktop. Specifically, I have been unable to get "The Witcher Enhanced Edition" to run without severely distorted video. I have both gnome and kde desktops on my system (kUbuntu jaunty-9.04). Today I tried running the game in gnome, and was

Nexuiz (2012) audio trouble: loud crackling noises
As soon as the game starts with sound, there's a bunch of crackling noises and makes the game unbearable. http://pastebin.com/ji6urCv6 Also, before it launches, it tells me that I'm using an unsupported card, do I need a DirectX 11 card? I have an NVIDIA 9800gt 1gb latest drivers.

Keyboard Grabbing
Hi, I've just manages to get "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" and "Elite Force" working in Linux using wine. The graphics don't work anywhere near as well as with the native Quake 3 though which does concern me a bit. My main concern is a lack of keyboard. I looked through earlier postings for solutions and have now tried the DXgrab=Y option, which didn't help.

low latency kernel?
Someone recently posted on the x2go list that he had a problem with jerky videos playing remotely on Ubuntu, but solved it by installing a low latency kernel that was available as an alternative. That made me curious as to whether CentOS has an equivalent - or a way to build something similar. -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell at gmail.com
