DNSSEC
Well, folks,
There's an article on slashdot,
<http://tech.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=10/04/30/1258234>
Excerpt:
...the coming milestone of May 5, at 17:00 UTC ? at this time DNSSEC will
be rolled out across all 13 root servers. Some Internet users, especially
those inside corporations and behind smaller ISPs, may experience
intermittent problems. The reason is that some older

libtheora alpha 2 release
At long last, we've reached the alpha 2 milestone. CVS is tagged
'theora1_0_alpha_2' and a tarball is available from the website:
http://www.theora.org/files/libtheora-1.0alpha2.tar.gz
This includes (hopefully) all the format changes we wanted to get in,
so the bitstream format has changed since the alpha 1 release. Any
content you have will need to be re-encoded. Also we

Code change required in x11drv keyboard driver
aAHello all. I know I'm technically a wine newby (having only just
installed the codeweavers preview 2) but I have a code change request.
Deep within the file ~/windows/x11drv/keyboard.c in the function
X11DRV_ToUnicode is the comment 'More areas where X11 returns characters
but Windows does not CTRL + number or CTRL + symbol'.
Whilst this is a reasonable assumption, this is in

Try wineprefixcreate to repair old .wine instead of deleting
Alexandre says we should have users try wineprefixcreate
before having them blow away their old .wine directory.

OT -- billing and estimating, good resources?
OK, so for most of my career, I''ve done everything on an hourly rate.
Recently somebody kind of pointed out that if you bill by the
milestone you can work on multiple projects simultaneously without any
ethical problems, so you get increased efficiency. Does anyone have
any good advice/URLs/books on how to do cost estimates on a project?
I''ve really always kind of avoided the

Web site not responding with Firefox 52.6.0 (64-bit)
I don't know if this is a CentOS7/Firefox problem or one with the distant
web site slashdot.org. I can connect to it just fine with the latest
Firefox on my Windows 10 desktop PC, but not with Firefox 52.6.0 on this
CentOS 7.4 laptop. This has been an on-going problem for several weeks.
Google search results are sketchy. slashdot.org may have been a DDOS
target today, but as I write this

Problem using Feedtools on my Rails project!
Hi
I''m trying to setup my app to use Feedtools amazing RSS powers, but it
fails miserably on the following line:
logger.debug("Description:#{FeedTools::Feed.open("http://rss.slashdot.org/Slashdot/slashdot").items.first.description}")
The stack trace says:

comparative density estimates
I have two series of events over time and I want to construct a graph of the
relative frequency/density of these events that allows their
distributions to
be sensibly compared. The events are the milestones items in my project on
milestones in the history of data visualization [1], and I want to
compare trends
in Europe vs. North America.
I decided to use a graph of two overlaid density

Theora 1.0 final release!
The Xiph.Org Foundation announces the release of Theora 1.0.
Theora is a video codec with a small CPU footprint that offers easy
portability and requires no patent royalties. While the Theora
bitstream format was standardized in 2004 and our beta releases have
been used by millions, this 1.0 release is an important milestone
reflecting the maturity and stability of the Theora codebase.

firefox slow on 5.6
I have updated to 5.6 - GREAT job guys...
when I do "host slashdot.org" for example it comes back immediately.
when I enter slashdot.org on firefox it says "Looking up slashdot.org"
for a LONG time like 15 or 20 seconds
before continuing.
I have set network.dns.disableIPv6 true.
Any idea why firefox is so slow?

Linux malware attack
SlashDot had an article today on a Linux server malware attack,
<http://it.slashdot.org/story/14/03/18/2218237/malware-attack-infected-25000-linuxunix-servers>.
I wonder if there is a simple test to see if a CentOS machine
has been infected in this way?
The article mentions Yara and Snort rules to test for this,
but I wonder if there is something simpler?
Alternatively, are there Yara or
