Natural Selection 2 (engine test) + wine 1.1.43
I usually don't mess with wine -- the program either works or it doesn't. That being said, I would like to get this game to run if possible.
This is the output from console. It says that openal-soft needs to be upgraded to v1.12 but I'm at v1.12.854-5.1.
Any help is appreciated.

Dragon Age driving me insane!
Hello,
I read with disbelief on the Dragon Age wine appdb page that people actually have working dlc in Dragon Age Origins. This flies in the face of absolutely everything I've seen in my experience with the game. I've installed via Steam, installed the prerequisite windows crap through winetricks (dotnet30, physx, vcrun6, vcrun2005 vcrun2008, and everything else). I've manually

Half-Life 2 crashing with Wine 1.1.43 on Ubuntu 10.4
Hey guys,
I'm new to this forum and also to Linux. I hope this problem is not caused by my lack of knowledge, but I would guess not. Hopefully^^.
As the title says, I try to play Half-Life 2 with Wine, which is listed as platinum in the Appdb, so I expected no problems. But unfortunately, the game is crashing when I want to start a new game. I see the loading bar filling, but when it's

Source Engine games - Low FPS (Wine 1.3.15)
The AppDB lists Team Fortress 2 as Platinum. It says it should run "flawlessly out-of-the-box."
In Windows, I can max out all of the settings and get a steady 100+ FPS.
In Wine, I have to set everything to Low, and even then, I still only get 20-30 FPS, occasionally dropping down into the 0-10 range when multiple players are on the screen.
That doesn't sound flawless. Aside from

Wine Success and Failure report
Hello, (first post)
You probably don't want to hear about my Linux-related story, so I'll cut telling you that about 5 months ago I switched from XP to Ubuntu.
I've been a C/C++ programmer since I was 13 (2 years go), so I consider myself to understand a great deal of things (but hey, what is my opinion worth nowadays?)
Anyway, In this post I'd like to report my Successes and

Launching Source engine games results in crash, small res
Well I'm able to get Steam running fine, however I've tried to play the following:
Team Fortress 2
Left 4 Dead
Counter-strike Source
Portal
When I try to launch Source based games the screen goes black and then it resizes the resolution to something like 1024x600.
I am able to get the Left 4 Dead intro movie to play with this script:

exec()'ing Linux applications from Wine
This may sound like a strange request, but I'm currently investigating
how to execute Linux executable files from wine. The use case for this
is that I play a lot of games on Steam, as well as a number of
Linux-native games. I would like to be able to add the Linux games as
'non-Steam' games so that Steam keeps track of how long I play them, and
so friends can see what games I'm

I'm trying to run Secret of Monkey Island special edition in Steam on wine with Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat. I can install steam and use it to install the game (after it installs directx), apparently with no problems, but when I try to run the game, a window opens saying "Preparing to launch The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition".
