AdobeReader on 64-bit PCLOS--how?
Some days ago I queried the list about getting LightScribe and
AdobeReader to work on a 64-bit PCLOS-KDE system. By accident, I only
replied to the one person who answered me, but I can report that the
LightScribe problem is solved, and without the use of WINE.
If anyone wants to know, please ask and I will post that solution.
However. I don't believe that there is a simple solution to

I have changed the rsyncd.conf as per you suggestion below.

Number of files transferred: 78
Total file size: 49441191919 bytes

rsync not transferring files [SOLVED]
Something is not right as I have added files to the server that has
never shown up on my backup machine - so everything is NOT being update
by any means. I finally removed rsync - version
rsync-3.0.6-12.el6.x86_64 and installed the same version that is on my
server which is rsync-3.1.1-1.el6.rfx.x86_64
Now everything is working as expected. Perhaps there is something

Kingsoft Writer, etc.
Latest PCWorld mag had a nice writeup on Kingsoft Office software, which
comes in 3 flavors, the lowest of which is free, so I d/l'ed it and
installed it in Wine,
version 1.4-1pclos2012--the latest version the pclos distro has. It
seemed to install OK, but it won't open any file, and it won't open even
a blank file so you
could write on it. (Just looking at Writer, for the

RMySQL 0.6-1 Package Install Fails in R 2.5.1 (pclinuxos)
I am having difficulties installing the RMySQL package (0.6-1) on a
clean install of pclinuxos with R version 2.5.1. My version of the OS
came with R-base already installed along the RKWard GUI front end.I have
attempted to install the package through RKWard however I have had some
problems.
I have searched google and various forums extensively but I have not

Hope this does not duplicate to the same place, but I sent the following
message to a different input. Here it is:
I have tried 4 or 5 times to install Centos 7,* and it seems to install,
but it won't boot to KDE or any desktop. It comes up in text mode, and
nothing I do will get it into a kde mode.
Or any graphic mode, that I know of. I have enabled a root password, and

I downloaded a new copy of this and placed it in the /fakedlls dirctory,
where it replaced what was there, but it still

Linux distros
Is there any particular distro that seems to be most used among RoR
developers on Linux? Any that might provide better support somehow for
development of RoR apps?

4.10.2 not connecting to (old) NAS
I am running the PCLinux OS (kernel 5.10.12) and it has recently
upgraded samba to 4.10.2.?? With the upgrade the connection to my NAS
units have ceased to work.?? The NAS is a DLink DNS-343 (old but they
work).?? I have five of them in my network and use them for secondary
storage so only spin them up when I need them.
My last access to the NAS was about a month ago before the upgrade to

Idea to cut down on Distro list
I'm sorry if this is not the correct place for suggestions, but I didn't see any other place.
I'm sure everyone has realized how massive the distro list is when submitting test data. My proposed solution is to add two drop down menus, one will contain disto names e.g., "Ubuntu" and "Fedora", the second box will contain release/version e.g., "10.04"

4.10.2 not connecting to (old) NAS
Thank you Rowland - adding "ntlm auth = yes" in the global section and
rebooting the machine has provided access once again to the NAS.
In answer to your questions - the smb.conf was from the PCLOS machine.
Question - I had tried sec=ntlm in the mount statement without it being
in the smb.conf - did that not work because ntlmv1 had not been enabled?
As to the question marks, that

problems with games
I've bought my 12 yr old son a used laptop (Dell Latitude D600) and convinced him to use a version of linux unstead of Windows. The laptop came with PCLinuxOS release 2007.
He really wants to be able to run some of his games, so I used the Synaptic Package Manager to install Wine. The version available for PCLinuxOS was Wine 0.9.58.
So far I've tried two games, and I've struck out

IE with winetools (wine ver. 0.9.9)
I tried installing IE6 using winetools, this failed for some reason.
after several attempts i found IEs4linux, which installed IE5 and IE6
for me with no hassle, can i get winetools to recognise this install?
because it won't let me install other software at the minute, or could
someone give me a hand in getting winetools to work with the original
IE6 setup?
cheers!

rsync NFS automount home directories, deletes on 2nd run
rsync'ing from NFS automounted /home directories does
not appear to work as expected.
Initially it automounts all the home directories, and
copies the tree. However, when I run the same command
a second time, it deletes all the files for with the
/home directory happened to be unmounted.
Some more details:
Using 'ypmatch -k auto.home', I generate a list of
/home/ directories to

Davka Writer
I am a new Linux and Wine user. I have successfully installed Wine in PCLinuxOS, and it is able to run an old Legacy program from Parsons Technology called Address Book.
I then used Wine to install an old version of Davka Writer, a Hebrew word processing program. The program appeared to install correctly, as far as I could tell. The installation required a serial number, which I have.
