How to install Wine-1.1.7 on Ubuntu 7.10
I've downloaded Wine 1.1.7 and unzipped it onto my desktop. I've printed out the readme file and have followed the quick start by running ./tools/wineinstall (I'm doing all this by mouseclicks - no terminal). A dialog box flashes and then nothing happens. I can't stop this dialog box long enough to see if there is an error msg, so I don't know what is happening, except I

Avaya 9640 Convert to SIP (slightly off topic)
Hi List, Ive got a bunch of Avaya IP9640 that we want to convert to SIP and then hook up to Asterisk so we can dump this overpriced Avaya system. Ive got ahold of the SIP firmware, but I cannot find anything on how to convert the phone itself to SIP, when I go into setup mode it wants a "command" which im guessing is the program code like the rest of the Avaya systems works. Has anyone

Want to help Wine and prevent regressions in your favorite (downloadable) app?
Howdy all, For Google Summer of Code, I worked on a project I called Appinstall, which is basically an automated test framework for Wine. It works as a simple shell script, that runs several independent tests of applications, then parses the log files to make sure no applications broke, or bugs were fixed. The tests themselves are written using AutoHotKey (http://www.autohotkey.com). The neat

macchiato -- so much for the markdown grapevine
so much for the markdown listserve grapevine... it ends up that there has been a markdown-savvy display-in-real-time app for a couple months now, by the name of "macchiato", coded by a college kid. > http://getmacchiato.com > http://kswizz.com/post/8624456381/macchiato > http://mac.onedayoneapp.com/macchiato/ > http://shawnblanc.net/2011/08/macchiato/ >

[OT] Shared hosting for Rails projects
To much of my dissapointment, the uptime on my TxD account does not improve. What alternatives do we have for hosting Rails projects on shared accounts? I would love to keep lighttpd and the level of control I have on TxD but wouldn''t like to spend much more (I am currently on the 25$/month plan). I won''t need much support, but I would love to have subversion

CentOS at FOSDEM
Hi all, FOSDEM is coming and it would be nice if CentOS users and developers are present. FOSDEM will take place at 24 and 25 february 2007. (so mark those dates in your calendar!) I guess what we need is a wiki page about FOSDEM linked from some 'CentOS events' page and then people can start planning and indicating who's coming and what the topics could be. Since the developer

Getting the panel location of a xyplot matrix using a mouse click in a GDCanvas
Hi: I would like to find out the panel of a xyplot matrix where a mouse clicked. I know this functionality is already bundled in trellis.focus but I can't use it because I am coding a stand alone application in Java using with GDCanvas as a graphics device. I tried calling trellis.focus from Java with: re.eval("t = trellis.focus()")); However it did not work for an embedded

Small PBX to VoIP transition questions
This is for a small business (restaurant and catering). We want to move from POTS to VoIP to save on the phone bill. Currently we use four lines for voice + one fax going into a Lucent Partner system PBX. Right now I'm considering two alternatives, both powered by * and a SIP/IAX wholesaler (any recommendations on that for someone who can do LNP on DIDs in Boston, MA, USA area are gladly

GetAsyncKeyState
I wrote an application in c++ which should return the GetAsyncKeyState(0x01). But I always get 0. If I click on the window of my app,I will get the right answer. GetAsyncKeyState should return systemwide clicks! The same things happens when I write a VB application. I found an app written in Delphi which uses the GetAsyncKeyState call and returns systemwide clicks. Can someone tell me whats the

OT: android phone backup NOT to google cloud question
Dear All, My apologies for OT question. I wonder if someone of Android smartphone owners backs up their device and user/application data NOT to google cloud. I just had to get new smartphone, and discovered that short of rooting device or unlocking bootloader and flashing one of "un-googled" android builds I can not find the way to back up everything. To my storage, NOT TO GOOGLE

Best OS Choice for Rails server?
I am going for a dedicated hosted server for a rails app I am working on, and have a choice from several different operating systems. I excluded windows 2003 from the list because it has been giving RMagick fits for me. The app is Ruby 1.8.4, Rails 1.1.2, mySQL 5.0 The contestants are: Red Hat Enterprise 3.0 Red Hat Enterprise 4.0 Debian CentOS FreeBSD I''m leaning towards Debian,

Nice review of Wine on frankw.livejournal.com
Some fellow in South Africa is blogging his move to Linux: http://frankvw.livejournal.com/195867.html An excerpt: "There is a huge database of applications available that lists every application that has been tested with Wine, and it tells you how well (or badly) it runs. I'm amazed how many Windows applications will work with Wine flawlessly. I remembered Wine from its early days when it

Slashdot on WRT54G
Did anyone see the article? It''s the first time I really noticed that these little Linksys routers are such a fully fledged linux machine with a decent processor and a replacable firmware. I am now itching to get one to replace the multipurpose firewall desktop machine. Has anyone experimented with the current state of the firmware and how advanced you can get with tc rules? For

POTS interfacing recommendation
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello there, I'm drawing up a scheme to manage our company calls and would like to implement it with Asterisk. In order to get moving quickly I'd like some recommendations on what hardware to buy so I can start tinkering. Initially we'd like to be able to support one line to accept incoming calls, and another one for forwarding such

Disabling shutdown and suspend for normal users
Hi, [CentOS 5] What is the best way to remove the shutdown and suspend options from menu's for normal users? After googling around, I added "SystemMenu=false" to the greeter section in /etc/gdm/custom.conf. After that the GDM login screen still shows the options, but 'restart' indeed doesn't work anymore. However, the gnome menu's when logged in, still have the

Steps to move away parts away from samba?
Morning, I like samba, but I'm tired of what I feel is fighting battles. I want to move the PDC portion of samba to an Active Directory server (I've been told AD is a part of Server 2008?). Would someone please list the steps for doing this? My rough idea so far is: - take an LDIF from OpenLDAP - install the server 2008 box - load the LDIF into AD - join the AD box to the samba domain -
