Xapian on Android?
Friends,
I would like to hear from anyone who has experience deploying Xapian on Android. I'm new to Xapian, but I know it is used by a couple partners for offline projects on Linux and Windows.
Our small nonprofit, WiderNet, provides off-line access to thousands of Web sites for people who lack Internet connectivity (www.widernet.org). Over 2,000 universities, schools, health care sites,

OT: android phone backup NOT to google cloud question
Dear All,
My apologies for OT question.
I wonder if someone of Android smartphone owners backs up their device
and user/application data NOT to google cloud.
I just had to get new smartphone, and discovered that short of rooting
device or unlocking bootloader and flashing one of "un-googled" android
builds I can not find the way to back up everything. To my storage, NOT

horde sync status ?
Hello all,
I had a quick look at the horde site and noticed that
horde is being advertised as, let's say, "smartphone friendly".
Does anyone know if the newest horde version can "talk" to?
smart phones in regards to e-mails ?
In other words, can a user owning a smartphone get his/her
e-mails on it apart from the webpage ?
Thank you,
spyros

Hi guys,
I'm running "Radio Unicorns" for one year now, transmitting live
coverage of one of Germanys best american football teams, the Schw?bisch
Hall Unicorns. Technically, it's a root server running freebsd and the
latest icecast. I had up to several hundred concurrent listeners this
year and had the server tested up to 2000 listeners (had to tweak a few

Re: Wine on Android
Well, I do not think it works because you try to run the software on a non-x86-x86. First of all i think, it is necessary binaries compiled for ARM processor. If you have any suggetion or any problem then you can go r googling. It can help you in your any problem.

To be fair, the GCC version which comes with the android ndk has not been
updated for four years, while the clang

Howto authenticate smartPhone via Active Directory
Hi Mark,
Just to let you know that we are running dovecot with AD. (and I guess:
*many* people are running that combination)
It worked without issues, we are using in dovecot-ldap.conf.ext:

this user/passwd filter:

Hi John,
I have used Muses in the past with partial success. I'm not sure I'd say
"runs on all devices" as it is a Flash-based player. I have been in
contact with the developer in the past and he said an HTML5 version
would be a good idea.
With my own Icecast server, when listening with Muses, for some reason
every 4-5 songs the stream would lock up. This doesn't occur when

Don't know about that, but I'd guess wine is missing something in this
direction. I would also guess that wine is a bit to big (spacewise) to
fit onto a Phone.

virt-manager like tool for Android
Hi all,
I use virt-manager as a way to give customers direct access to their
(virtual) servers. This is important for things like OS installs or when
do admin work where the network is down. This means I have to install a
little linux machine though as none of my clients are linux shops.
So I got to wondering; If I understand, virt-manager is more or less
a hypervisor-aware VNC client,

Frustrated. Java on Centos 6 doesn't give an error message when downloading from a Samsung Galaxy S3
SUMMARY:
Maybe this all boils down to "how do we debug when Java fails on Centos 6?
DETAILS:
If you don't have the Samsung Galaxy S3, then you might not realize how
frustratingly difficult it is to transfer multiple files from the
smartphone to Centos 6.
It should be as simple as hooking up a USB cable and dragging and
dropping (which it is, on most other smartphones, including the

Success: Bring-up of LLVM/clang-built Linux ARM(32-bit) kernel for Android - Nexus 5
Hello,
I would like to share my successful bring-up of LLVM/clang-built Linux
ARM(32-bit) hammerhead kernel for Android running on my Nexus 5 smartphone.
After having successfully brought up LLVM/clang-built Linux kernel(since
v4.15.7 to the most recent v4.17) on x86_64, I was interested in
accomplishing the same on the ARM platform of my Nexus 5 - Android
smartphone. So, here is the complete

how to block brute force attacks on reverse tunnels?
For many years I've been running ssh reverse tunnels on portable Linux,
OpenWRT, Android etc. hosts so they can be accessed from a server whose
IP is stable (I call such a server a "nexus host"). Increasingly there's
a problem with brute force attacks on the nexus host's tunnel ports. The
attack is forwarded to the portable tunneling host, where it fails, but
it chews up

Linux PDA/smartphone sync?
Hi,
I think I'll finally be able to move away from windows... I just
installed linux and I'm wondering what people use as smartphones/PDA.
I currently use a motorola V710 phone, which allows me to sync my
contacts and calendar, which is all I need. I may change it soon, so I'd
like to know what is best to work with linux (I use evolution right now,
