Wine + "any program" = no sound in one of them
I am not sure if this has come up on the forums. I tried a search, but didn't find anything pertinent. I have a problem with sound in Wine. I am running Wine 1.0.1. My problem isn't with any particular game or program. I get very good sound when in a game or program, but if I am in a program under wine and then go outside Wine and start a sound program, like VLC for example, VLC gets

problems with Rcmdr on R-2.10.0 with Karmic Koala
Dear R Debian People: I have put this on regular R help as well, but thought that I'd try here too. I updated to R-2.10.0 on Ubuntu Karmic Koala via apt-get update, apt-get install. Then I had a problem that said that I need MASS <= R-2.9.2. Fair enough. Uwe Ligges was kind enough to point out that I needed to use > update.packges(checkBuilt=TRUE) So I did. Now the menu on Rcmdr

Dear all, I have set up one unprivileged Domain-1 with help of FedoraQuickStart and some help from you. Now I want to install some other OS to Domain-2. How can I install a different OS (say Redhat 7.3) onto a unprivileged domain? Do I have to copy all files from an existed installation to an image file? Thanks, Koala _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list

Samba mounted home shares will break many applications
I didn't get any responses to my previous post "Wine broken on Samba shares due to colon ":" filenames" so I am re-posting with a subject to reflect what I now believe to the the root cause of my problems. I recently changed from mounting my home directory using NFS to mounting with CIFS via the pam module pam_mount.so. It turns out that I am having problems with many

installing ROCR/gplots packages blows up memory
When I try to install the ROCR package (which requires gplots) on Ubuntu 9.10 (Xubuntu Karmic Koala) 64-bit on R version 2.9.2 (2009-08-24), it eats up all my RAM (2GB) and swap (4GB) and keeps allocating more memory until Linux's out of memory (OOM) killer kills the perl process. This problem is special to Ubuntu because I can install other packages (such as party) on this Ubuntu system, and

Hi Community, I have a question about how to pass command line parameters to R script running in the batch mode. The problem is: there is a banch of data files which are to be processed by R script called from a web-server, i.e. in the batch mode. The web server generates data files and passes their names calling 'R CMD BATCH' one by one for every file. Now the question is how to

Autorun ability on cd?
I have a little niggling situation that I would like to resolve programmatically. I use Git as my SCM and I have release branches which are sometimes patched. I find myself sometimes entering the working directory tree forgetting that I was last on a release branch and not on the master. What I would like to do is to have a script run every time that I enter a directory, check for .git, and if

process id of an R script
I have a script that runs as a cron job every minute (on Ubuntu 10.10 and R 2.11.1), querying a database for new data. Most of the time it takes a few seconds to run, but once in while it takes more than a minute and the next run starts (on the same data) before the previous one has finished. In extreme cases this will fill up memory with a large number of runs of the same script on the same data.
