Wine why no audio?
Hi. Until Fedora 15, I used qsynth+Fluidsynth+alsa+biab and everything worked fine. But not anymore with Fedora 16. I can't see any midi drivers in band-in-a-box. I'm sure about my setup. Everything seems fine. I dont know which one is failing, but I suspect wine. The midi ports are ready: $ aconnect -o client 14: 'Midi Through' [type=kernel] 0 'Midi Through

getting started
I am giving serious consideration to abandoning waveOut multimedia and the wav format, for most of the audio in my C++/MFC project. However, I've never done any programming with a codec, and I still can't see how to step into Ogg Vorbis. If I convert all my wav files to ogg, there seem to be two major issues I'm facing: 1) What exactly will I replace my waveOut functions with? 2)

@dim = Date.civil(2007,8,1).day fails on OS X
the above line of code always produces an "invalid date" when run via a controller on OS X, ROR v1.2.3 install via MacPorts. I ran the same controller on Kubunut 7 with no issue thanks -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Core"

Band in a Box 2008 with Ubuntu through wine?
I am really getting into my new Ubuntu Hardy Heron software but wondered if any music lovers amongst you could give me some advice? I heavily use Band in a Box 2008 on the XP side of my machine and have tried to install it, through the wine emulator so I can use it in Ubuntu. I could then, more or less, abandon the XP side on a 90% basic. Something I would very much like to do. Unfortunately BB

garbled dialog fonts, band-in-a-box, mac
I am a newish Mac user. I have band-in-a-box 2008, which ran fine under wine in Linux. It seems to run fine under wine in os x, except that the fonts are wrong in several places, most notably in dialog windows. The font actually used is some kind of symbolic font, so it looks like hieroglyphics. It might be one of biab's fonts as some of the symbols are musical, but there are enough

The trick is to get the font files in the font folder as well as in the registry. Earlier, in the back of my mind, I was wondering if it was a registry issue, but I wasn't ready to go there and didn't know at the time where fonts

trying to get better ogg quality for this clip
hi folks, in my (unlucky) first test of ogg vs other encoders, i found a case where wma and mp3pro sound much better than ogg at 64k. can anyone suggest a setting that i haven't tried yet that can rival the wma and mp3pro samples at 64k? it's the "gravel effect" that is troublesome. the part in question is the first 15 seconds of this wave file:

a few more questions...
Hello everyone, I sent the last email prematurely - I had a few more questions. I don't wish to start a holy war here, but are there certain OSs / Distros that are preferred for running very busy icecast servers? We're a Solaris shop currently, but don't mind using linux or BSD if that would make things easier. I see there is a Fedora Core RPM on the icecast page - does that

music e-commerce using vorbis
Hi, I am the CTO of an online e-commerce site selling signed underground music. We're just about to begin with mp3 distribution by download. I have looked into Ogg Vorbis, and it is interesting for us to both avoid the mp3 patent stuff (what's the legal status of Fraunhofer looking into any possible patent infringements by Ogg?), and WMA. However, I still don't think Ogg Vorbis is

Change Station Name
Hello. I am new to this forum and relatively new to Icecast. I have set up and Icecast broadcast from my computer using Winamp as the playlist and the SAM Encoders to encode to WMA. The broadcast is running perfectly. The only issue is when I create an ASX file that links to my broadcast, it shows my IP address as the title of the broadcast. What do I need to do to change this to a name of my

Mgetty for out of band management - which modem?
Hi, We're thinking of using Mgetty and a modem to allow us some out of band management access to sites if the ADSL connection fails... Just wondered if anyone had a recommended USB modem they've used on Centos/Mgetty as Hayes compatible serial modems seem to be quite rare these days?

[HTB] Individual band for each IP in an IP range
Hello, I''m using shorewall at the moment, but I''m asking this because I''m thinking on switching to htb from a script if this isn''t possible from shorewall. Is it possible to get HTB to treat each individual IP in an IP range as a separate leaf, so I don''t have to insert a separate HTB rule for every new user? Thanks a bunch, Iscu.

data fitting and confidence band
Hello, I am fitting data using different methods e.g. Local Polynomial and Smoothing splines. The data is generated out of a true function model with added normally distributed noise. I would like to know "how often the confidence band for all points simultaneously contain all true values". I can answer the question for one point in the following way: e.g. #

nls, the four parameter logistic equation, and prediction band
The error msg is telling you that R cannot evaluate the loss function, so you should not expect answers. You might try examining the data -- Are there NA or Inf entries? Or prepare a dataframe with just X and Y, sort by X and graph. Then check the nls computations by sampling, say, every 100 X's to give you a dataset with about 160 observations. If that doesn't work, it is at least
