New Linux user with installation woes
My apologies if this has cropped up before, but a search and a look at the FAQ hasn't given me much.
I'm a total newbie with the whole Linux thing. I've currently got a dual boot Ubuntu/Windows XP setup with a wireless adaptor as my means of internet. The driver that comes with the adaptor only talks Windows, and so it won't appear to work when I boot in Ubuntu. The only way I

Ubuntu users, please upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy for Wine 0.9.60 and later
To prevent conflicts when upgrading to 8.04, older releases will no
longer be getting Wine updates. Ubuntu Hardy will be released this
Thursday, and contains many fixes that also affect Wine, such as support
for some missing libraries in the 64 bit version.
By default, Ubuntu's update manager will disable third party
repositories on upgrade, which will leave you with the Wine included in

Acer Aspire 5739G - Wine doesn't work
Hi,
I've recently received said notebook as a gift. Currently it's running Kubuntu 9.10, however Wine just doesn't seem to work - any aplication I try to run on it gives an error message 'The program has encountered a serious problem and needs to close', whether it's a game, WinRar or an installer. In fact the only .exe files that work are the ones included in wine

Installing Rstudio and shiny free server on Debian
Thanks Dirk,
I wonder if I'm hitting problems you're not seeing not only because of running stretch/stable but also because of running the i386 version. I suspect most people are on 64 bit systems now.
Anyway, I have managed to install Rstudio OK by going up to stretch-cran35. Rstudio wouldn't install from there:
root at Toshiba-L750-Stretchi386:/etc/apt# apt-get install rstudio

So after doing "apt-get uninstall wine", I followed this guide (http://www.winehq.org/site/download-deb), to install a newer wine version but encountered a few problems:
1. the guide says
