Using wisotool with Steam
Anyone know if/how you can use the new wisotool (http://wiki.winehq.org/wisotool) with the games it supports through Steam? I have several of the titles it "supports" and would love to give it a try if it works through Steam.
Regards,

Re: Using wisotool with Steam
Go ahead and try it. We've added Steam support to wisotool,
and I could imagine the wisotool verb for a game could edit
the .vdf file when replaying the cached install,
but it's not something I'll have time to play with myself.
Current wine should execute the directx runtime installer a lot
faster, which ought to help.

Another two months, another winetricks release. (So much for
release early, release often :-)
Highlights:
- fixes a bunch of verbs whose download URLs had changed, especially
vcrun2005 and vcrun2008.
- fixes the annoying "unexpanded variable" error which happened when
running old wine with a new wineprefix.
- brings back gog support (though without automated download for now;

New winetricks and wisotool
Some documentation would be nice, but thanks.
I pulled the help lists, and things are getting much more helpful. Is this a prequel to releasing 1.3.0 to the general group?

Wine unable to find DX9 / driver version?
I updated wine to latest git (wine-1.1.26-390-g31dab8f) and upgraded my nvidia drivers to 190.18. When I attempted to test some of the DX9 and 10 games I usually test, none of them seem to be able to recognize either my DX version or the drivers. I suspect that the drivers are the issue. Here is a relevant example from a test for Assassins Creed.

New winetricks 20110417: new verbs braid braid_demo cod5_waw deadspace dotnet20sp2 dragonage_ue mise popfs splitsecond splitsecond_demo spore
Another fortnight, another Winetricks.
This release fixes a handful of bugs, and adds a handful of games
(or, really, ports them from wisotool). It also brings back the old
verb dotnet20sp2, since that seems to work with wine-1.3.18
(please let me know if it's useful).
It also adds a rudimentary gui to prompt for Steam username and password,
cleans up the --help message, and improves mac and

Blizzard game bug
The bug listed for StarCraft2 at
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21809 applies to several Blizzard
games, including the version of World of Warcraft that hit the live
servers this morning.
The latest posting I see on the bug report page was made sixteen days
ago and the bug is not listed as fixed or closed. Does anyone know what,
if any, version of Wine includes the fix for this

Adega: A minimal WINE frontend written in bash
I started this project for my own use but it has grown into something that I feel is pretty helpful. From the script header:

> Derrived from the Portuguese word for wine estate or wine cellar, Adega is a simple program to help with the task of managing and configuring your wine prefixes doing so completely independent of your systems default wine install and prefix.

dinput_test works but WINEDEBUG shows no joystick for game?
This is a continuation/evolution of what I've been trying to do, get some response from my controller(s) in Guitar Hero 3. I compiled wine (with some help :) and manually copied the dinput_test.exe.so file into my /usr/lib32/wine directory and made it's permissions match the other exe.so files (644). I then run the test to see if dinput is seeing/reacting to my controller, and it seems

My problem: I can not get any games to run on Wine. It is however, only games. Other window based programs run on Wine just fine.
The error message reads as follows:
