Java virtual machine problem on wine
Hello again everyone! I've got myself a problem trying to run a java application (with calls to Windows native libraries) on Wine 1.2. That aside, the problem is explained with this little example: Code: $ wine java -version java version "1.6.0_20" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_20-b02) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 16.3-b01, mixed mode) $ wine java -xmx1024

Can't seem to install RMAGICK on Ubuntu Karmic Koala
hi guys, I have been trying to install Rmagick on ubuntu karmic koala for a day. Yes, ImageMagicK has already been installed and works great with paperclip and a few other perl scripts I have (which uses Image::Magick). The following is what the execution looks like when I tried to install rmagick ( " gem install rmagick" ): -------------------- Extract start

problems with Rcmdr on R-2.10.0 with Karmic Koala
Dear R Debian People: I have put this on regular R help as well, but thought that I'd try here too. I updated to R-2.10.0 on Ubuntu Karmic Koala via apt-get update, apt-get install. Then I had a problem that said that I need MASS <= R-2.9.2. Fair enough. Uwe Ligges was kind enough to point out that I needed to use > update.packges(checkBuilt=TRUE) So I did. Now the menu on Rcmdr

[RFR] JDK-8156980: Hotspot build doesn't have -std=gnu++98 gcc option
Hi Martin, Thanks for your response! I haven't tested compiling OpenJDK 12-dev with LLVM toolchain, perhaps the issue had been fixed already, because clang treat invalid argument '-std=gnu++98' not allowed with 'C' as error. It is better only apply EXTRA_CFLAGS to C without EXTRA_CXXFLAGS. Furthermore, I just have interest, did you use clang analyzer, sanitizer and

R and Java 10 ➜ rJava not able to build
Hi! I?m on macOS 10.13.3 and just installed the new Java 10 using Homebrew Cask. I also have installed R with Homebrew. Everything seems to work fine, however I just get different outputs if I run sudo R CMD javareconf or R CMD javareconf. With sudo I get pointed to Java 9 and without sudo I get pointed to Java 10. I really don?t know why. Without sudo: $ R CMD javareconf

R and Java 10 ➜ rJava not able to build
I am not a Mac user, but I do use Linux and I would recommend not running R with sudo unless you are an admin ninja. That defensive practice would render the answer to your question moot. It is possible that your problem may have started with inappropriate use of sudo in configuring java, but configuring Java is not on-topic here. -- Sent from my phone. Please excuse my brevity. [RFR] JDK-8156980: Hotspot build doesn't have -std=gnu++98 gcc option
it's difficult to use llvm tools like sanitizers on openjdk sources, because of the "cheating" - relying on undefined behavior, and the JIT. Three Identical systems - short cut to setting up the drives?
I am building three identical systems. Well they will have different host names, and with time the software setups will drift. But at install time they are identical. Is there some way, (with dd I might guess) to do a hardare level copy? All three drives are Hitachi DK23DA-40F (40Gb). Supposedly factory reconditioned (they are in sealed bags with a drive sticker stating: "Refurbished

backing up email / saving maildir on external hard drives
Dear Christian, Thanks for your feedback. The HDD will not accept larger than 4GB (as its in FAT format). Its a new external HDD. Thinking of the best format(that would work with Mac , Win and Linux) .seems like a challenge. What's your view on NTFS? And why not exFAT? My doubts with apache server on centos installation
Hi Linux geeks, I have just started to setup a production server with centos; and moved from windows server to centos. My first encounter with this great linux distro is good. I am not able to understand what is the point of having scattered folders for apache server installation. when i see the /etc/httpd folder; it has only conf folder and links to logs, module and , run. As i have been

symlink creation using facter, but facter is nil at first run.
Hi all, I''m trying to find a better way to implement this, but I can''t think of. I have a jdk module that requires to create a symlink to whatever version is the one installed. Say I install jdk-6u35, it will create something like /usr/java/jdk_1.6.35. I would like to create a symlink /usr/java/jdk whose target would be /usr/java/jdk_1.6.35. The point here isn''t to ask

R and Java 10 ➜ rJava not able to build
Hi Jeff!! I really don?t know if running R CMD javareconf with sudo has posed a problem here, now or in the past. What I know is sometimes it?s the only way to really config it, if I don?t run with sudo, in the end it asks me if I want to overwrite the configuration from root override rw-r--r-- root/admin for /usr/local/Cellar/r/3.4.4/lib/R/etc/Makeconf? (y/n [n]) y override rw-r--r--

Java JDK on CentOS 4.4
I did not choose Java when I installed CentOS 4.4 and I want to install a JDK to do Java programming. What is the default Java JDK for CentOS 4.4 ? I see under YumEx very little which looks like a Java JDK. Is there one in the distribution ? Is there a way to get Sun's latest JDK 5 installed safely and successfully on CentOS 4.4, perhaps via an RPM for it tailored to CentOS 4.4, or should

"multi-boot" drive partitioning
I want to set up a multiple "mode" computer with four separate Centos installations on it. The objective here is to have a "spare computer" that I can boot up into any of four "modes" depending on what I'm swapping it in for a the moment. For example, I want to be able to boot it up as a webserver, or as a fileserver, or as a LTSP-enabled application server.

Java headaches
I lost my harddrive, and have had to reinstall. This time, I am being a bit smarter on imaging, but still got to get things installed... Installing Freemind. It needs Java JRE. So after lots of pain, and reading past messages, I got jre-1_5_0_09-linux-i586.rpm from sun and installed it. Then I tried to follow Jim Perrin's recommendation to install from jpackage.org the

CentOS 5.4 64-bit: Java web browser plugin for 64-bit FireFox?
Does there exist *anywhere* a Java web browser plugin for 64-bit FireFox? The SUN 1.6<mumble> JDK (jdk-6u18-linux-amd64.rpm) does NOT include the Java web browser plugin library. java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0-1.2.b09.el5.x86_64.rpm does not have one either. Should I install the *32-bit* SUN 1.6<mumble> JDK and use the 32-64 bit wrapper? I've searched the web and read the wiki

Perils of R_LIBRARY_PATH
The R front end sets (via etc/ldpath) R_LIBRARY_PATH, including R_JAVA_LD_LIBRARY_PATH. Perhaps the later is too obliging, as I've just be caught by it in a way that took me a while to track down. One of my machines has a Sun jdk1.6.0* JDK installed, and as a result we have ${R_JAVA_LD_LIBRARY_PATH=${JAVA_HOME}/lib/amd64/server:${JAVA_HOME}/lib/amd64: ${JAVA_HOME}/../lib/amd64} What I
