Hey folks, I'm trying to use a 5.3 box to run some JNLP apps, but all I get is a view of XML. I try doing some googling and don't come up with much other than this one thread that says I may need both 32 and 64 bit Java to run JNLP. My yum update for CentOS-2 started to fail a while ago. http://mirror.centos.org/centos-2/updates/headers/header.info mentions this line: 1:IBMJava2-JRE-1.3.1-10.i386=i386/IBMJava2-JRE-1.3.1-10.i386.rpm But that file doesn't seem to exist anywhere. icedtea-web package included with the distros is the plugin that handles javaws for firefox for both RHEL/CentOS 6 and 7 and openjdk. I have yet to find an app that cannot use openjdk instead of oracle java. It may be a little less streamlined, but it's functional. Ignore/cancel any pop ups that talk about updating java. If I missed this answer, I apologize as I receive the digests.

I have some software that says it requires JRE 8.1 or higher. If I go to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre8-downloads-2133155.html and install jre-8u144-linux-x64.rpm I get jrel.8.0_144. Anyone know where I can get 8.1?

I've installed the Windows application Open WorkBench* which is coded in C, C++ and Java. When I install it under WINE, it installs fine, but when I run it, it gives a 'JRE is not installed' error message. I have a Linux JRE already installed. Do I have to install a Windows JRE? Or is there a way of telling WINE about the Linux JRE I already have installed?

From a different list: "JRE from SUN is getting depracated: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html" Centos comes with the 1.4.2-gcj-compat rpm. What impact does this all have? I do have JRE 1.6.0_05 installed on most of my systems (I see that update 10 is the now current version).

We found that the removal of Java support (actually NSAPI in favor of the Pepper API which Oracle has stated they won't support) left us with limited IPMI (iLO, DRAC, whatever) functionality.
