A question about the API mkchar()
Hi guys,
I've got a question about the API mkchar(). I have met some difficulty
in parsing utf-8 string to mkchar() in R-2.7.0.
I was intending to parse an utf-8 string str_jan (some Japanese
characters such as?, whose utf-8 code is E381B5) to R API SEXP
mkChar(const char *name) , we only need to create the SEXP using the
string that we parsed.
Unfortunately, I found when parsing the

mount.cifs doesn't do japanese?
On a FC2 system (which includes kernel 2.6.5 and samba-3.0.3), I am
able to use "smbmount" to mount filesystems with japanese filenames on
them by specifying codepage=cp932. But when I mount with "mount.cifs"
the translation from SJIS to UTF-8 isn't done right:

Unable to run Watchtower Library 2007 Japanese : font ?
Hello,
I was using both version of WTLib 2007 (French and Japanese) under Unbuntu7.10 and Wine 0.9.47 and it worked fine with just an installation of VCRedist and some japanese fonts in windows folder. But recently i moved my system to the new Ubuntu8.04 with the last version of wine : 1.0 RC1.
I read that i don't need to install vcredist and font anymore. It's supposed to be a platinum

another missing link in febootstrap; failing tests for libguestfs
After the last round of patches to febootstrap, the image-based test in
libguestfs still failed. It turned out that this happens because Debian
started replacing /var/run and /var/lock with symlinks that point to a
tmpfs mounted to /run. The symlinks were copied to the appliance but
/run/lock did not exist, so pvcreate refused to run (script
'images/guest-aux/make-debian-img.sh').

httx, iiimf, and Japanese input still not working
Japanese input - the final frontier. This is the last obstacle before I
can work completely within Centos and be free of Windows.
But it's still not working.
To cut to the chase, in my quest to get Japanese working, I came across
the following:

How can I make these command prompt settings into universal settings?
I've got it so that I can enable Japanese input into an application by
typing the following at a command prompt (with FireFox, for example):
[dave at localhost ~]$ kinput2 -canna &
[1] 10631
[dave at localhost ~]$ XMODIFIERS='@im=kinput2' LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.utf8 firefox
However, I would rather not have to type in all that craziness each time
I want to start an application. Further,

Problem with japanese programs
Hello.
I have a tiny problem.
I am running Character Maker (a japanese painting program aimed mainly for RPG Maker and the like).
Now on Windows, it used the default system font, but when I run it under Wine it uses an ugly handwriting font.
Is there a way to fix this problem?
It also happens with several programs which were originally in japanese (such as Melody Raiser [from the same author] and

I see. That wont be possible then since I'm using the Darwine (Wine.app) binary. I wonder if I can edit something in the package to change this environment variables and make it permanent.
