Minimizing WoW - Painfully low FPS
I can play WoW perfectly, it is 100% stable and I can get great fps. One problem though, when I minimize the game and I maximize it, sometimes I can just keep playing happily but sometimes thats not the case. I minimize it, maximize it again and the FPS drops to about 10-20fps (anywhere). As you might know, this is VERY annoying, I've tried changing loads of settings in-game with no help.

QUERY: function optimize
I have had problems with the function optimize/optimise for maximising/minimising a function of one variable. It seems to get easily fooled by local optima. Obviously this can happen to any numerical optimiser but some of the examples I have a pretty disappointing. Any comments of suggestions of a better R-function? --------------------------------------------------- Chris Lloyd Associate

optim problem, nls regression
Hi, I try to fit a non linear regression by minimising the sum of the sum of squares. The model is number[2]-(x/number[1])^number[3] Number [2] and number [1] change as the data changes but for all the set of data number[3] must be identical. I have 3 set of data (x1,y1), (x2,y2), (x3,y3). x_a<-c(0,0.5,1,1.5,2,3,4,6) y_a<-c(5.4,5,4.84,4.3,4,2,1.56,1.3)

Metacity theme titlebar minimise button
Look at it, and you'll see the black outline is missing on the right side of the minimise button. This has been bugging me for a while. I've attached a zoomed in shot, so you can see easily what I mean. It's not a bug in the theme, but in gtk-window-decorator's Metacity theme support, as the border displays perfectly in Metacity. Does it happen with other themes? --------------

Arima
I did a regression with ARMA errors using arima0 with ari<-arima0(y,order=c(2,0,2),xreg=reg1,delta=-1) or ari<-arima0(y,order=c(2,0,2),xreg=reg1) where reg1 is the matrix of the regressors and when I see diag(ari$var.coef) I get negative terms. Do you know what this mean ? I try to change transform.pars to 0 or 1 but this crash R on Windows. Is it possible to test the significativity

Non-constant variance and non-Gaussian errors
Hi Paul, Take a look at gam() from package mgcv (gam = generalized additive models), maybe this will help you. GAMs can work with other distributions as well. Generalized additive models consist of a random component, an additive component, and a link function relating these two components. The response Y, the random component, is assumed to have a density in the exponential family. I am not sure

Programmatically minimising main R window (on windows)
Hi all, Is it possible to programmatically minimise the main window of the windows R gui? I'm designing a small gui with gwidgets & RGtk2 for an non-statistician to use, and it would be nice if I could easily hide all the R stuff that they don't need. Thanks, Hadley -- http://had.co.nz/

Simple Sudoku - not minimising/letting me do anything else
I have installed Simple Sudoku (http://www.angusj.com/sudoku/index.php) but I cannot minimise it, nor go to another screen to do something else. If I try, its window gets larger, vertically. I am using wine 20050725 (which is what is packaged for my system at present), on a Debian system running XFree86, with icewm-gnome. Can anyone advise why this program "hogs attention"? -- Phil

WoW: Low FPS
When I start wow and get logged into my character, my FPS will be high, like 75, then after 30 seconds or less maybe, it will drop for 20 FPS. I've tried all the fixes I read about on the WoW WineHQ page and thats how I got up to 75 fps for that short while (before, it was like 35 fps, which dropped to 15 fps) Some info on my setup: Ubuntu 9.04 (64 bit) Kernel 2.6.28-14-generic Wine 1.1.26

Logistic Stepwise Criterion
Dear R-help members, I'd like to run a binomial logistic stepwise regression with ten explanatory variables and as many interaction terms as R can handle. I'll come up with the right R command sooner or later, but my real question is whether and how the criterion for the evaluation of the different models can be set to be the probability of the residual deviance in the Chi-Square

WoW WOTLK => Patch 3.3.2 kills my fps....
After upgrading to a Club 3D Radeon 5770 overclocked edition i was finally able to get some good fps out of wow... 90 => 110 FPS in Stanglethorn Vale with all the graphics option to their lowest setting possible. However last night the game installed patch 3.3.0 => 3.3.2.... Afer doing that upgrade the game actually runs at about 60 FPS now if i am lucky.... Mostly when i walk around the

Wine/WoW not detecting monitor hz
WoW detects my monitor hz as 77, 78, 79. 80, 81, 82 but not 60hz which it should be! This causes a lot of tearing which can be annoying. Is there any way of fixing this?

Non-constant variance and non-Gaussian errors with gnls
I have been using the nls function to fit some simple non-linear regression models for properties of graphite bricks to historical datasets. I have then been using these fits to obtain mean predictions for the properties of the bricks a short time into the future. I have also been calculating approximate prediction intervals. The information I have suggests that the assumption of a normal

mle
Hi, I am looking for some help regarding the use of the mle function. I am trying to get mle for 3 parameters (theta0, theta1 and theta2) that have been defined in the the log-likelihood equation as theta0=theta[1], theta1=theta[2] and theta2=theta[3]. My R code for mle is: mle(Poisson.lik, start=list(theta=c(20,1,1), method="Nelder-Mead", fixed=list(w=w, t1=t1, t2=t2)) But I keep

[ubuntu] WoW frame raiting question
Hey guys, I'm pretty new to linux and I read in many places that NVIDIA specially for ubuntu was the way to go as far as a video card goes. I currently have a ATI Radeon HD 6950 1Gb. and I have WoW installed and I'm playing it yet the frame drops in 5m and I havent try in 25m yet. So I went a bought the EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti ftw edition 448 Cores and due to a lack of drivers (non that

WoW low framerate.
Greetings to everyone. I understand that this problem may discussed many times, and i searched through forums but nothing solved my problem. In windows game runs perfectly with max details at 1680x1050. And i have something about ~50 FPS. But in Linux with same options i have ~18. I don't know why is that, when i'm trying to use native dll's in Wine config game won't startup. I

?? Issues with playing WoW on Ubuntu 8.40 ??
Well I have installed Ubuntu 8.40, Wine 9.59, and World of Warcraft, and it took me some time to get it working, but I finally did. Now, however, I'm having several problems with the way it runs. Namely: -the mouse is very slow and skippy at moving when in WoW -lots of objects in the game fail to render (the ground usually doesn't render either) -my FPS in the middle of nowhere, with

WoW on Ubuntu 10.04
Hi, some time ago i've installed WoW in Ubuntu 9.10 using wine 1.1.42 (wine1.2 ubuntu package). Everything fine, had a few fps problems but with some tips found in wowwiki i've manage to increase fps to about 20. Some users would say it's still low, but i was happy with it. Well, some weeks ago i've updated to Ubuntu lucid (10.04). It's great, but my WoW fps drop down to about

Prog running in Wine OK but needs Alt+F10 to maximise.
Hi I've got 'WriteOutloud' (talking wordprocessor for dyslexic children) working pretty well on an Asus Eeepc (Xandros) and on an Acer Aspire One (Kuki Linux) I'm using Wine 1.0.1 on both machines. What happens is that the prog starts up normally then immediately minimises to the taskbar. To make it run fullscreen you have to click on it and press Alt+F10 Although not a serious
