AMD Cool'N Quiet = Processor issues
Hello there. I'm new to the forums and pretty new to having linux on my desktop but I've had to use command line unix/linux at school and at work.
I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex 64 bit version. I have a HIS 2600XT video card, an Athlon 64 3500+, and 2 gigs of RAM.
I've been having some issues with slow FPS in Guild Wars and Disciples 2 (using the GoG version).

netboot arbitrary linux systems
I've been using pxelinux with good success to netboot knoppix systems.
This is link has been the base for my work so far:
http://www.babytux.org/articles/howto/how2netknoppix.php
I keep all of the netbootable systems in /tftpboot/systems/knoppix-#.##,
where knoppix-#.## is the filesystem extracted from the knoppix cd. I
use a variation on the knoppix-terminalserver script to generate a

sorry, the darn reply to got me again

can you remote regedit from linux?
if so, you can execute on logon from the samba server a push of the keys,
you can even make a queue of pushes that run only once.

Edit Windows XP registry with wines regedit?
Hi,
is it possible to edit the registry of an installed Windows XP under Linux
with wine's regedit? I've replaced my mainboard which has a different
chipset. So this crappy Windows XP doesn't want to boot now.
Cheers, Martin

Reinstalled Windows and GRUB - Cannot boot Linux - fstab and grub.conf errors?
Background: This is a dual boot (Windows XP and CentOS 5.2 (32 bit)
box. There were four (4) NTFS partitions. The C partition got full. I
deleted the 4 NTFS partitions and did a clean install of Windows XP,
into one (1) NTFS partition.
I knew that I would need to install GRUB again and I did that, using
the CentOS 5 Installation DVD. When I tried to boot into Linux, no
joy. this is the GRUB error

Latency issues with World of Warcraft vs root/user
Hello,
The issue I'm having is when I try to run Wow in a standard user account vs root. When I run as just a user I reach latency of up to 2600ms. Along with that I'm unable to enable all my addons due to the fact that my frame rate will drop to at extremely low levels. But when I run as root (I know this is a bad idea..that's why I'm trying to fix it) I'm able to enable all

should sub(perl=TRUE) also handle \E in replacement, to complement \U and \L?
Currently sub(perl=TRUE) allows you to specify \U and \L
in the replacement argument so that the rest of the subpatterns
in the line (the \\<digit> things) will be converted to upper
or lower case, respectively. perl also also has a \E operator
to end these case conversions for the rest of the subpatterns
(so they retain whatever case they had in the original text).
For symmetry's sake

Splash screen problem
I've been creating bootable Linux CDs for some time, and something I've
consistently found is: on certain systems the splash screen won't display
when I use isolinux. All I get is white, empty space where the splash would
ordinarily go. Text included under the splash screen appears as it should,
but the image itself doesn't.
I've experimented with different resolutions of

CentOS5 + 2.6.32.15 PVOPS x86_32 PAE/xen 4rc6 stalls at boot
Hi,
It appears my Xen is stalling right before handing off control to the
dom0 kernel. I would appreciate any pointers on where to look next,
since I''ve already spent a considerable amount of time trying to
figure this one out and nothing turns up. One small detail, with my
previous .config, I wasn''t seeing the 4 "(XEN) MCE: MSR 417 is not

TAP unistall issue Windows XP - Update
Hi,
To recap, after installing and uninstalling TINC a number of times, TINC
eventually wouldn't start.
Debug gave a "".. not a usable Windows TAP Device.. File not found" error.
After doing some digging, I found a dozen or so duplicate Network Adaptor
bindings for the TAP driver in the Windows Registry.
These were essentially orphaned entries as there was no corresponding

How to import registry of Windows XP backup?
I have a game for Windows where the entire game status is saved in the registry. The game works good under Wine. After a reinstallation the registry got wiped out and therefore my game status.
(This game is not important, it could be any program which writes something very important into the registry which I need to restore)
But I have an entire backup of my old Windows XP installation. Because

[PATCH] v2v:windows: prevent Parallels drivers from loading at boot
Parallels proprietary hypervisor uses RDPMC as the hypercall
instruction. As this instruction is supported since early P6 family,
the drivers didn't even bother to check for the presence of the
corresponding feature in CPUID.
In QEMU/KVM, however, this instruction triggers #GP unless the VM is run
with PMU (performance monitoring unit) enabled, which is often not the
case (due to its impact

How can i know the user home directory with wbinfo or smbclient.
Yes i have something like that on the user.
But my objective is from the linux client machine get that attribute or
info to mount or sync the windows home.
I have that line on my script for example:
rsync -avzX -e "ssh -o StrictHostKeyChecking=no -i /home/public/id_rsa"
--progress -m --chown=$USER:$GROUP
root at 10.20.1.5:/domain/samba/jfk/homes/staff/adscripcion/$USER/
