Package XML: Parse Garmin *.tcx file problems
I'm struggling with package XML to parse a Garmin file (named *.tcx). I wonder if it's form is incomplete, but appreciably reluctant to paste even a shortened version. The output below shows I can get nodes, but an attempt at value of a single node comes up empty (even though there is data there. One question: Has anybody succeeded parsing Garmin .tcx (xml) files? Thanks! Michael

Garmin Trip & Waypoint Manager installer won't run
Hi, I'm trying to install version 4.0 from the CD that came with my GPS unit. I'm able to run Setup.exe and get to the initial startup menu. The links to visit the Garmin website and exit the installation work fine but when I click the one to install the app I get the hourglass cursor for a fraction of a second, like it's starting to do something, but nothing happens. This is my first

Need assistance connecting Garmin GPS via USB in Mapsource
I am new to Linux, Ubuntu, WIne etc but despite all that I am operating in Ubuntu 8.10, with MapSource 6.13.6 installed via Wine 1.0.1. I know there is an issue in getting MapSource to recognize the GPS while connected via USB but I am unable to understand the steps provided to solve this issue. I've been advised to enter "sudo modprobe garmin_gps" in terminal and to check the

Serial port not working anymore on Garmin Mapsource
I have Garmin Mapsource v8 working 100% with Wine and Linux kernel 2.6.16. Transfer from/to the GPS connected to a USB Serial converter on /dev/ttyUSB0 works 100% also. But then, I try with kernel 2.6.18 and 2.6.19 and Mapsource doesn't find the GPS. It's not a Linux issue as I can access the GPS with minicom. Device file permisions are OK. Anyone has and idea of what can be happening

Recent version of Garmin Mapsource doesn't work
Garmin's Mapsource versions prior to 6.16.1 worked almost flawlessly. Now with version 6.16.1 which I upgraded, the main map window doesn't draw the map anymore, just a gray tile. You can still zoom in and zoom out, and even pass your mouse to see that its over some road, but you can't see the map. If you open a track, the trackline shows, but not the map. Also, it now requires at

Mappery breakthrough : Garmin topo, vista, rino, under linux & CXO
As most of you know, I've been trying to make GPSs and topo maps usable under Fedora Core 4 linux, using CrossoverOfficePro (CXO) 5.0.1. I've belabored nine or ten specialized lists for six or eight weeks, parcelling out pieces of the problem wherever I hoped they might arouse interest and knowledge. I've gotten invaluable help and encouragement from all of them, on the lists

How to make Garmin see Garmin?
I have Garmin's topo map software for the USA, 2008 version, and also a very old MapSource MetroGuide (ca. 1998) installed under wine. All is well -- except the biggest thing. Neither program can detect the etrex vista nor the rino 120, using Garmin's cables. The topo couldn't before I added the road maps,so that's not the trouble. Both, on the other (<shudder>

Wine causes X server restart
Hi All, Starting wine or a wine'd program causes an immediate restart of the X server, returning the the gdm greeting/login screen. The logs contain no relevant information, other than gdm forcing an X restart. I have checked all logs and found nothing relevant :( Relavant Information: version: wine-1.0.1-174-gc4039bd os: Linux wdhq 2.6.29 SMP i686 Debian 5.0.1 wm: Gnome vid: ATI

Re: Can Garmin's (MapSource) USB map-card reader be used in Wine?
Hello, I tried to install Mapsource 6 in Wine (20050211.2) on MDK LE2005 but it didn't install... The same with GIDroute which installed but didn't want to be launched. I will give it a try on MDV 2006 but I don't expect a miracle. And the pseudo map applications for Linux are not really what we can consider as useful and easy to handle with... GPX files
I have a Garmin 78s marine GPS receiver and it stores tracks in GPX format. This is an XML encoded set of points giving longitude, latitude, time and sea depth. Garmin support viewing this via their Garmin Express product, but there only seem to be Windows and Mac versions. I've emailed them and await a reply. In the mean time, does anyone know of any Linux products that will emable me to

Cannot install Garmin City Navigator DVD - err:msi:ACTION_InstallFiles compressed file wasn't extracted (L"c:\\windows\\system32\\ROBOEX32.DLL")
Hello! I'm trying to install the software "Garmin City Navigator Europe NT v9" for a Garmin StreetPilot c510 - a GPS navigation device. When I run the installer in wine 0.9.26 on Gentoo, it finally errors out with a useless error message in the GUI. On the starting terminal I find: err:msi:cabinet_notify failed to create L"c:\\windows\\system32\\ROBOEX32.DLL" (error 5)

Garmin MapSource updater
I managed to install MapSource 6.12.4 from the CD using Wine 0.9.59 under Ubuntu 8.04. I could configure the unlock code, see maps, etc and connect to my Zumo 550 to download data OK. The problem is running the update package, MapSource 6.13.7. It executes until the opening screen ("Welcome to MapSource Web Update") and then just sits there. There are no buttons or input boxes anywhere

Mappery inquiry
Last time I tried, a few years back, Wine was not yet up to handling Garmin's proprietary topo map software. It would install, and sometimes even work, so long as I didn't try to connect a GPS to it. (The ones I have are all also Garmins -- old ones wanting a serial port.) I made a huge effort, for most of a year, with a lot of help from high-powered Alpha Plus Technoids on several

Need a faster function to replace missing data
Dear List, I need some help in coming up with a function that will take two data sets, determine if a value is missing in one, find a value in the second that was taken at about the same time, and substitute the second value in for where the first should have been. My problem is from a fish tracking study. We put acoustic tags in fish and track them for several days. Location data is supposed

IE7
Ok I got IE7 working, mainly because of Steam, but I wanted to see if I could get flash working, aparently activex controls won't install correctly. Is there a way to fix this? (i've tried Winetricks for flash but it tells me the .exe hash doesn't match or something). Anyways, just curious, not to use ie in linux but mainly to get flash working since steam seems to use IE for

USB and serial
Hello, everyone - I have an old Windows app - a ship navigation program - that needs to see GPS input on a serial port (it was written in the pre-USB days.) My laptop, however, has no serial ports - but this same program, when run on a friend's Windows box, can read the GPS info from the USB-connected GPS via the "USB-Serial Driver". This is one of the frustrating bits of this
