move temp files directory?
I would like to point Wine at my Linux temp directory instead of /home/username/.wine/drive_c/users/username/Temp. Is there a way to have the Wine environment variable specify a different location?

Hello. I installed Far Cry 2 + the patch. I have suse 11.4 + KDE. The run button doesn't do anything. Right after I installed it, I use the autorun feature to get far cry running. odd steam install location?
I am trying to track down a crash in Steam (Steam itself, not a game through it). In following appdb instructions for Steam I realized that it was installed in /home/tparker/.local/share/wineprefixes/steam/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/steam.exe and not in :~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files> where I had expected it, although that second directory does have a SteamInstall.msi sitting in it but

Wine and ePSXe 1.7.0 command line issue.
I've been wondering about this for a while. I use the windows version of ePSXe because the linux version is still at 1.6.0 which has some issues with Chrono Cross that 1.7.0 fixes. Anyway. It works pretty well in wine most of the time but there's one problem I've been having. Whenever I start it by double clicking the ePSXe.exe from a gui file manager it runs just fine. However, if I

How to determine if file is within the prefix/bottle or not?
I'd like to put a warning into my application that warns the user if they try to store their document inside the prefix/bottle. (In other words I want to help the user avoid putting user data under the "drive_c" folder.) I know that some folders are redirects, such as C:\Users\{user}\Desktop refers to the Desktop folder in the user's real profile, so this is safe, as well as

wintricks dotnet20 install
I am trying to install dotnet20 with winetricks. For previous requirements I have installed vbrun60, vcrun6, allfonts, divx, allcodecs, ogg, quicktime72 and msi2. Now with dotnet20, the windows installer gives me only repair and uninstall options, and if I try repair, it asks for MSI 3.0 installer (an offered install link does not work). Have I triggered an install of dotnet from one of the

WINEPREFIX ?
I have seen posts regarding WINEPREFIX so that Windows programs can be installed elsewhere than in the default .wine/drive_c/... folder. I have 2 or 3 Windows programs in the default folders which I run under Wine, and another program (Serif PagePlus 11) also in the default folder that does not run and I want to uninstall. Wine uninstall does not work for this program. I gather I can uninstall by

Proper Shortcuts!
Hi, i was really searching a lot (not only on this board), but im still not able to create reliable Launchers / Shortcuts for Wine Applications. While there are certainly many ways, which will SOMEtimes work for SOME Apps, I would appreciate it very much if there was a secure, reliable by-the-book way. So, there are certain apps on my pc, that run fine with wine, but it is of course always a

Program won't load fonts when run outside of installed dir
I'm trying get a couple pieces of software we use at work so we can replace a bunch of aging Windows machines with Linux boxes, but I'm having a little trouble. I'll start with the potentially easiest problem first. One of the programs I'm trying to use is Lightspeed Virtual Terminal. It runs fairly well with just a couple of glitches. If I go to the directory it was installed

multiple users on LINUX - way to share a single .wine
Basically, I'd like to have just one .wine dir on my file system that multiple users on LINUX can share thus allowing me to keep a single install of my windows apps. The default is to install to /home/CURRENT_USER/.wine so I'm wondering, as long as the LINUX users are in the same group, can I relocate the .wine dir to say, /home/share/.wine and update the wineconfig? I just started using
