Command ls blocked on usbdrive
Hi.
In the /etc/fstab I have the next line for an usbdrive (IOMEGA USB 2.0 80
Gb):
/dev/sda1 /media/IOMEGA_HDD vfat
pamconsole,exec,noauto,managed 0 0
I mounted the usbdrive with mount /media/IOMEGA_HDD. If I executed an ls
command for one of the directories on the usbdrive (ls /media/IOMEGA_HDD)
there is not problem but if I executed an ls of the usbdrive ls -lha

Can't figure out how to put wineprefixes on an NTFS drive
Hi,
I'm still a bit new to Linux and Wine, so please bear with me if this is a stupid question.
I've been putting all my windows applications in their own wineprefixes, and now I thought I'd put some of them in my data partition, because there's always lots of free space there and many of my games take a lot of space.
But when I try to create a new wineprefix on my data

Iomega REV Drive
Hello,
I've an SCSI version of the IOMEGA REV drive (35 GB, like ZIP drive). How
can I access this drive. FreeBSD detects the drive as CDROM:
cd0 at ahc0 bus 0 target 4 lun 0
cd0: <Iomega RRD 89.B> Removable CD-ROM SCSI-4 device
cd0: 20.000MB/s transfers (10.000MHz, offset 8, 16bit)
cd0: cd present [17090880 x 2048 byte records]
I'm using FreeBSD 6.1-RC.
Kind regards,
Thomas.

USB DIsk and mount point
Hello.
I use Centos 4.1 When I inserted my usb 2.0 disk for the first time it
created the mount point /media/usbdisk just fine. Which I used to mount
the disk. But as soon as I used it in another computer (winxp) when I
took the usb back to centos the mount point had become /media/IOMEGA
(yeah it's an iomega driver) but then as time goes by, the mount point
every time the disk is used

Mounting Network Storage Issues
I have an Iomega NAS 1TB drive that I am using as just kind of a file
sharing solution between all of my computers.
Of course it is on a timed backup with my server however it just serves as a
temporary solution for a bigger problem ( IE 15 different puters of all
various OS Flavors).
However I am not able to connect to any network storage server such as
Windows PC's or NAS Storage using map

prevent smbclient from trying 445?
When I use smbclient to access an IOMEGA NAS server, smbclient tries

Unhandled exception launching games from Steam
So after years of running a 'pure' Linux machine, I finally decided to install Wine so I could play some of my old games - and it's been a disaster. Using either Wine 1.5.3 or 1.3.3 trying to launch Half-Life Source results in nothing happening, trying to launch from the commandline gives this stack trace:
Code:

Entry server hardware
Hello,
I would like some advice on a SATA RAID controller that is able to work
in a 32 bit/33mhz PCI slot. I have been looking for a while but all I
can find is 64 bit cards that cost over $300. I just need it to mirror 2
drives, and of course work in Centos 4.2. I am not looking for RAID 5
or anything like that. All the cards I find that would do this are
fakeraid.
Also, has anyone used

I/O errors when backing up from ext3 to UDF
Hi. I'm trying to back up from an ext3 filesystem to an IOMega Rev USB
cartridge drive, which uses a UDF filesystem. It appears to the system
as /dev/scd0, but can be mounted in R/W mode.
I get a bunch of errors like this:
rsync: mkstemp
"/media/usb/backup_dir/home/support/data-old/clipart/STANDARD/STDDIR3/.PE01617_.WMF.M9ACqm"
failed: Input/output error (5)

portable ogg hardware update
Does anyone know of any updates in the portable ogg support category? How's the iRiver evaluation unit scenario working out (http://www.xiph.org/ogg/vorbis/hardware.html) ? Can I safely assume that any retail product being available by Christmas falls in to the "Snowballs chance in... a very warm place" category.
Also, I happen to be one of the (apparently) few people who purchased

Legend of Grimrock won't start
I just bought Legend of Grimrock and I can't get it to run in wine on my Arch Linux 64 bit machine. Several users have reported getting it to work under wine in Kubuntu and on Mac with wine. When I try to run it I get the following error

Boots from prompt but not from syslinux.cfg
Hi,
I have a problem with syslinux.cfg. I can boot successfully by typing
on the boot: prompt but not from an entry in syslinux.cfg.
The command line is
boot: vmlinuz initrd=dvzip1.img root=/dev/ram ramdisk_size=8192<enter>
However if I enter the label of the kernel to boot, it fails to run
/sbin/init and in its absence /sbin/sh. The kernel boots correctly but
gets stuck after the

HipZip support?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hello vorbis,
I know that hipzip/Dadio support was planned - does anyone have any
idea what the status of this is due to iomega's discontinuing of the
Hipzip product line?
Is there any way we can add ogg support to our hipzip's in the
future if Interactive Objects adds it to Dadio ?

odd steam install location?
I am trying to track down a crash in Steam (Steam itself, not a game
through it). In following appdb instructions for Steam I realized that
it was installed in
/home/tparker/.local/share/wineprefixes/steam/drive_c/Program
Files/Steam/steam.exe and not in :~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files> where I
had expected it, although that second directory does have a

question about WINEPREFIX
I wanted to ask to the wine experts something about WINEPREFIX or the crossover bottles...
how does the concept of "bottles" compares/differs with the concept of application virtualization (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application_Virtualization) used by VMware's Thinstall (http://www.thinstall.com/products/virtualization_suite.php) (aside for the .exe container*) and

Clean enviroments in Wine
I read somewhere that in order for a program to work properly in Wine it should be installed in a clean enviroment, something along the lines of one software conflicting with anothers drivers/runtime/apps/etc. Is this true? Does this mean that I can only have one program installed with Wine at a time?
Can one not create several 'fresh enviroments'?
