Wow says no DirectX
Wine 1.3.37 After patching, tried to start Wow with Wow.exe. Got a dialog box that says I need the latest DirectX Runtime. I have 'winecfg' set to XP and Blizzard says that means ver. 9.0c, which, I read somewhere, is what Wine has completed and uses by default. Please feel free to correct any misconceptions I may have. What now?

WoW: Low FPS
When I start wow and get logged into my character, my FPS will be high, like 75, then after 30 seconds or less maybe, it will drop for 20 FPS. I've tried all the fixes I read about on the WoW WineHQ page and thats how I got up to 75 fps for that short while (before, it was like 35 fps, which dropped to 15 fps) Some info on my setup: Ubuntu 9.04 (64 bit) Kernel 2.6.28-14-generic Wine 1.1.26

I want to be able to minimise WoW
OS: Arch Linux (64-bit) (fully updated) GFX Card: Geforce 8800GT (driver version irrelevant - had problem for a year) WM: Openbox Problem: Whenever I minimise WoW, the fps drops to sub-10. I can solve this by minimising and maximising the window again, but if I wait too long after minimising, it doesn't always work. Also, if I minimise it by accident too many times, it also doesn't work.

Squeezing every last drop of performance out of DirectX
Hi Folks, I have been using Wine for some time now to run Team Fortress 2 (and other HL2 based games) on my Ubuntu system. I was previously running Ubuntu 7.10 with an Athlon64 3800+, a 7600GT (256MB of RAM), and 2GB of DDR2 333MHz. Recently I upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10 (i386) with an AthlonX2 64 6000+, an 8800GT (1GB of RAM) and 4GB of DDR 800MHz. I was really hoping for a nice performance bump

Minimizing WoW - Painfully low FPS
I can play WoW perfectly, it is 100% stable and I can get great fps. One problem though, when I minimize the game and I maximize it, sometimes I can just keep playing happily but sometimes thats not the case. I minimize it, maximize it again and the FPS drops to about 10-20fps (anywhere). As you might know, this is VERY annoying, I've tried changing loads of settings in-game with no help.

Trouble with directx games on wine-1.2 64 bit
Ever since the RCs and the release of 1.2, I have been having trouble with directx based games not working properly. They did work under wine-1.1.3x. The problems are: video very slow and jerky, about 1 fps, objects appearing as "tears" on the screen, missing some textures, and screen going blank during certain effects. System: 64-bit kubuntu-10.04, dual NVIDIA 9800GT w/ 512 mb, plenty

White screen after some time in WoW
My problem: After some time playing WoW (about 1-2 minutes) the whole screen turns white. Everything else seems to work perfectly, I still have sound and I still can interact with my character. I can even open a terminal (blindfolded) and type 'killall WoW.exe' to quit WoW and make the white screen go away. wine --version outputs 'wine-1.1.37' I use the propiertary nVidia drivers

WoW on Ubuntu 10.04
Hi, some time ago i've installed WoW in Ubuntu 9.10 using wine 1.1.42 (wine1.2 ubuntu package). Everything fine, had a few fps problems but with some tips found in wowwiki i've manage to increase fps to about 20. Some users would say it's still low, but i was happy with it. Well, some weeks ago i've updated to Ubuntu lucid (10.04). It's great, but my WoW fps drop down to about

Re: Wine and WoW Cataclysm Patch 4.0 troubleshooting thread
That's what I'm going to do, after purging all the current nvidia stuff frommy system. The second thing I'm going to do is download, build and install the latest decent version of Wine. Thanks for all your advice. It's been really helpful. --------- One more question. What with OpenGL support getting dropped from WoW, I was wondering if it was worth trying to use DirectX under

?? Issues with playing WoW on Ubuntu 8.40 ??
Well I have installed Ubuntu 8.40, Wine 9.59, and World of Warcraft, and it took me some time to get it working, but I finally did. Now, however, I'm having several problems with the way it runs. Namely: -the mouse is very slow and skippy at moving when in WoW -lots of objects in the game fail to render (the ground usually doesn't render either) -my FPS in the middle of nowhere, with

Get real - install Windows!
After months where my wife was patiently playing WoW with appalling graphics because WoW doesn't really support OpenGL any more, and an even worse frame rate despite really low graphics settings, I finally got fed up with the fact that I cannot, under any circumstances, get sound out of Mangler and WoW at the same time even though the Wine audio test works fine, and was getting zero support on

Re: Wine and WoW Cataclysm Patch 4.0 troubleshooting thread
Ok, after several hours, I installed the nVidia drivers from their own website, and then (this was the bit that took longest) I installed Wine 1.3.28 from the PPA. I had a go at building 1.3.29 from sources, but it complained about not having 32 bit development libraries. I looked around and all I could find was to install wine-deps from the PPA so I figured if I was going to do that, I might as
