TF2 with GTX260 and Quad-core Phenom II - what performance?
I have a GTX260 216 core, running the latest Nvidia binary driver(260.xx). I have a Phenom II x4 3.2ghz, and 4GB of DDR3-1600 ram. All in all, not a bad system. Now, my problem is that no matter what settings I use, I tend to get in the 30-50fps range with DX8.1. Lower if there's a lot of action onscreen. The interesting thing is that my frame-rate doesn't change significantly with

Team Fortress 2 Issues
Hello there, After downloading the latest version of wine, latest graphics drivers and install Steam through PlayOnLinux, I tried to launch Team Fortress 2. The initial Valve sound played and then the menu soud, but there was absolutely no video/display. Checking the processes list, hl2.exe was still running, so obviously something is going wrong here. My system should be fine, as I used to run

Team Fortress 2 gaminfo.txt
Hello, I'm trying to run Team Fortress 2 on Linux using Wine 1.0. I tried starting the game from Steam, but it shows the loading TF2 window, then closes and never starts the game. I know the game isn't supposed to run on Linux, but I have a question about gameinfo.txt. I tried starting hl2.exe in: /.wine/drive_c/Program Files/steam/steamapps\*user*\team fortress 2 folder, but it said I

[Wine 1.4rc5] Team Fortress 2 crashes after assets load
Hello, I'm using Wine 1.4rc5 (because earlier versions seemed to lag rather badly when rendering pages in Steam) on kernel 3.0.0-12.20 using the (latest) 64-bit NVIDIA driver version 295.20 (installed from the file from NVIDIA) for the Quadro 160M (which runs has run TF2 just fine in the past). I understand that Team Fortress 2 and other Source games require 32-bit display driver libraries,

No More Mouse4/Mouse5 in TF2
I didn't play the game for a while (1 or 2 week), but with the last version of Wine, there is no more mangement of mouse4 and mouse5 in team fortress 2 ... I saw that there was some mouse issues on this last version ... Do you know if I can do something to fix this ? Or downgrade wine (how?) ? or just be patient and wait for a patch ? Thanks for your answers ...

How To Get Games on Steam?
I'm about to try out Team Fortress 2 because my friends wanted me to join in with them, and I'm using Wine to run Steam. However, because I'm new to this Steam business and everything, I'm just curious -- how do I install a game using Steam as the AppDB says? Or, how do I move TF2 files to this "steamapps" folder, and if that is the preferred method, how can I get the

Forcing DirectX 8.1?
Hi. I'm running Debian Lenny, and I'm having a problem with Wine and playing TF2. I used to be able to play TF2 under DirectX 8.1 before updating to the newest version, no problems. I didn't even have to use the option -dxlevel 81, it was already set to it when I looked under video settings in TF2. However, with Wine 0.9.59, it seems that the DirectX that comes bundled with Wine is

Team Fortress 2 Won't Start
Hello gentlemen, I try to start Team Fortress 2, which shows the Valve splash screen in a little box in the middle of my screen (supposed to be fullscreen), and then the screen goes black for a second and it crashes afterwards. I tried running it with '-dxlevel 81' both from the wine command in the terminal and in the game's properties in Steam, but it shows no difference. Anyone

CounterStrike Source / TF2 Hard Lockup
I'm really hoping someone might be able to help me with this one. Both CounterStrike Source and TF2 play really well on my machine but eventually cause the entire system to hard lock (requiring a reboot, I can't even access terminals). I've spent a significant amount of time trying to get this to work. I have tried completely removing Pulse Audio, setting the game to win98 mode, and

TF2 issues
Playing tf2, most of the time it runs very smoothly in fullscreen, and even in windowed, but occasionally, for a few frames, it either cuts to a distorted view of my virtual desktop (when I'm using one) or just random fluorescent colors set at right angles to each other. Anyone know what is happening? I can't take screens because, well, it's not taking them. Solutions appreciated!

Troubles in TF2
Hi, I'm using Suse 10.3, GeForce 8600GT 512mb, driver version 169.12, and wine 1.0 rc4. Team Fortress 2 losing priority/ how to fix?
Specs: Ubuntu 10.10 64bit Nvidia 260 GTX driver ver. 260.19.44 4 gig ram onboard sound wine ver. 1.3.16 So TF2 runs great, in dx9 mode its all good. THAT IS until something pops up on my desktop in the form of a notification or if I needed to alt+tab to something. I'm running it windowed at 1280x800 through the steam interface, the winecfg is not configured to run in a simulated desktop

applying a patch (select-dup.diff) to wine to fix TF2
I really feel like a n00b posting this, but I can't for the life of me find how to apply this patch. http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=21763&action=edit One of the Steam updates broke TF2, and according to the comments in the bug tracker this should fix it. I just have idea what to do with the file. Also, my wine setup isn't like most peoples. I compile wine from source and

Low Quality Sound and Video settings in TF2
I have managed to get TF2 working at an acceptable framerate under Wine. However 3 problems arise when playing it. When I run the game, it always sets my texture detail level to "Low" when I can run at "High" or "Very High" with very little performance loss, but no matter what I do, whenever I exit and restart the game, it reverts the texture detail level back to
